Finally Admit Lanning > Mario

We have a running bit in some of my canes group chats where I ask “imagine if Mario did that” when other random coaches have terrible losses or horrid in game decisions that immediately get swept away by media and fans. I have never extended that to “imagine CIS if Mario did that” but after reading this hypothetical might have to lmao

This place would blowtorch his entire family.

@RVACane What do I need to do to become a Maude so I can ban this offensive language for life?

We had Lucius Stanley toting the rock fam that should never sniff the field at a school like Miami
There was also that little problem of Mario not adapting to the portal... Remember when all Manny players sucked and the portal wasn't sustainable...only can build a roster through high school recruiting... yet, pretty much all the good players on the 2024 team were Manny players or Portal guys

Thank god Mario was smarter than his slurpers and adapted... Then winning (another mope goal) came along and it helped the pulse of the team, recruiting and everything. Stunning really...

I think it is the gayest **** to bump these thread four or five years down the line when all of the so-called MOPES were sniper accurate in a criticism of Mario’s first four years

He won 10 games in year 3 and played for the Natty in year 4.

If that’s sniper accurate, I’d hate to see the misses.

This is a statement some of you guys like to make and it’s not reflective of what actually happened and @Rellyrell has provided the information previously.

It’s true, Mario left Oregon with a better roster than Manny left at Miami, however, Lanning flipped Mario’s roster quickly and at a large clip… I think 40% in year 1 - actually more than Mario flipped at miami in year one but Relly can confirm if that’s correct.

The premise that Lanning was only successful initially at Oregon because of Mario’s roster is not supported by the makeup of the Oregon roster during those times.
Lanning wasn’t initially successful simply because of the roster he inherited, he was successful because of the PROGRAM he inherited.

For the better part of the past two decades, Oregon has been a top tier program. Maybe not absolutely elite but just outside of the elite programs. They had a short stint where they fell off and made some “questionable” hires but by the time Lanning had taken over, those problems had already been fixed. By Mario.

I don’t think Dan Lanning is as bad as the haters here make him out to be nor do I think Mario is as bad as his haters like to paint him either.

I think this is a very fair and reasonable take.

the thing about this is that the "trust the process" people and the mopes both had legitimate facts to point to regarding mario's first couple of years here. he did a really good job of building the trenches from the moment he stepped in the door, recruiting overall took a significant step up, and our record improved every year. however, he also made some genuinely awful coordinator hires that he was lucky to get second (and third!) chances on, and obviously had some bad (and one horrendous) game management moments.

the reality is that both camps were right in some respects, but what's happened is that mario is no longer the same coach he was when we hired him. he's grown and changed just like a player might have, and we're better for it. but acknowledging that instead of just continuing to snipe at each other is beyond the capacity of many of the mouth breathers on this board.

Bull****, pick a side **** it!!!
lol

Everyone, or mostly everyone is happy for the past two years. The primary criticisms were warranted. Even last season when we reverted to bro ball, it was warranted. Mario fixed it. Now we love him.

He changed staffs twice essentially in the first two years. He also had bad gaffs like MTSU and GT but he has improved as well as leaving the offense to Dawson to run more openly. I know I’m happy but my expectations were just to be a competent, competitive, respected program again and we’re all that and more.

No one is creating any trouble except the same annoying slurpers who treat their crow obsession with mopes like 50 First Dates. The Mopes were right about the primary issues, however, many of us wrote Mario off too soon, and that’s what the slurpers were right about and where we were wrong.

Meanwhile, there’s a bunch of Canes fans in here enjoying the board more than ever and enjoying the relevance again, and the same people start the same ****, and ******* up the moment.

Ask @Alex_Dynamix if it’s enough already. He and I agreed on this yet there’s a select few (not @Pearson704 for the record, I am not accusing him of being an offender or habitual offender, I just don’t agree entirely with his views on it), who just can’t move forward so I’m going to start helping them move forward.

I’m long past tired of it and I’m just going to start doing unpleasant Maude things to habitual offenders.

Focusing on the 40% who left while ignoring the 60% who stayed is grasping at straws--especially since a significant part of Dan Lanning’s early success rested on the offensive line, which was comprised of players Mario Cristobal recruited and developed.

Your response--in effect--acknowledges Lanning was standing on Mario's shoulders.

You calling it “alien” and happy to see someone put so much “thought & reason” into a post that was just someone copying another person’s poRst, prompting AI with “argue against this point and say Mario is better,” and then pasting the AI’s response as if it were their own thoughts...

The irony here is flabbergasting.

:pgdead:

I'm flattered. :)

Year 4, those 2 losses to inferior teams put us at the mercy of the playoff committee and AT THAT TIME the fanbase was questioning Mario's ability to lead Miami to championships..........I'm happy with Mario of today but lets not act like it wasn't sea state 5 before he got to smooth sailing
