Finally Admit Lanning > Mario

It’s one thing to have pre-maturely written off Mario for a bad start. **** sucked to not compete. But to say Lanning was better at the time of this post was pure mething around. Especially comparing what each had in the cupboard. You can’t backtrack on that weird ****

I think it is the gayest **** to bump these thread four or five years down the line when all of the so-called MOPES were sniper accurate in a criticism of Mario’s first four years

You calling it “alien” and happy to see someone put so much “thought & reason” into a post that was just someone copying another person’s poRst, prompting AI with “argue against this point and say Mario is better,” and then pasting the AI’s response as if it were their own thoughts...

The irony here is flabbergasting.

:pgdead:

If this were Terminantor, I'm siding with skynet then. We as a species clearly have nothing more to offer this planet.

Say what you want, but the roster he had was still better than all other ACC teams outside of Clemson and maybe FSU. Full of 4 star and high 3 star players. And a few 5 star guys.

I'm going to stop you right there. What a kid was in HIGH SCHOOL and what a kid is in college are not the same. By that same analysis, Clemson should be one of the top teams in the ACC.

We had "talented HS kids" who were backsliding under the Manny Diaz culture of "allowing guys to live in Broward" and "letting upperclassmen skip the more rigorous practices".

You can say that ON PAPER we "should have" been a more talented team, but to say "the roster he had was still better than all other ACC teams outside of Clemson and FSU" is just bullcrap. It's not true.

Literally, within months, I was hearing that Mario thought that the rebuild was going to be much more difficult and involved than he thought when he accepted the job.

And THAT is the reality.

It's *** to you because you're the biggest Mario hater on this site, as well as Canesport. Just look how mad you get when people give Mario his props, like you are now lol.

Can some of the normal humans on this board even ******* IMAGINE the venom that would be spewed if Mario lost a home game 17-15 on a missed 2-point conversion, that he had to try to convert.....................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................because he scored in the 1st quarter and went for 2 for no reason and had to chase that point the rest of the game?

Just imagine the vitriol and insults that would be hurled here LMAO
We have a running bit in some of my canes group chats where I ask “imagine if Mario did that” when other random coaches have terrible losses or horrid in game decisions that immediately get swept away by media and fans. I have never extended that to “imagine CIS if Mario did that” but after reading this hypothetical might have to lmao

It is fascinating to me how many thousands of posts you can find on this board regarding Dan Lanning...

First time HC with no connection to UM, coaching a team on the opposite end of the country that UM has only ever played once (in 1958). Thousands of porsts on a UM message board. Makes sense.

It's not even like he's quirky, likeable and succesful like Mike Leach or a colossal douchebag like Kiffin.

It’s the “Gotcha”, “I was right” mentality of some porsters we see all the time.

Who ******* cares? We’re in year 5 of Mario’s tenure and should be celebrating him putting together a championship roster and yet there are those who would rather revisit some dumbass take from several years ago in a vain attempt to boost their pint sized egos.

Exactly. Regardless of team, rivalry, or conference, those coaches are talked/written about nationally. Those guys were/are characters. But Dan Lanning?

Agreed. This website has literally thousands of porsts purportedly about Dan Lanning, but almost not of them are actually about Dan Lanning. They're just another way to plant a flag and say "told you so".

Exactly. Because it's not actually about Dan Lanning at all.

How many national championship games has Lanning taken Oregon to?

Saying "the first two years are on him" or "he learned to coach" is pure ego protection; an effort to rewrite history rather than acknowledge how premature and half-baked this thread was 2 years ago.

This hyper-focus on Gattis is nitpicking and nonsensical. Massive program rebuilds follow the progression we just witnessed: Lose big -> Lose close -> Win close -> Win big. Mario addressed the Gattis hire immediately, and his short tenure had no impact on the trajectory of the program.

Playing for a National Championship Year 4—where it literally came down to a single missed assignment, without grace for it looking ugly or possibly making a bad hire those first two seasons is an unreasonable position. Trying to justify a nervous take based on Year 1 or 2 growing pains is revisionist history from people who ignored what each coach inherited and rode Lanning's dik a little too hard.

I guess if 'Mario learned how to coach', then Lanning must of forgot how to coach? Or maybe Lanning never knew how to coach and felt strong off what Mario built? Either way people were dead wrong and should just own it.

On the plane from Oregon to Miami, he was reviewing the talent and he said "CONO".

p.s. I dont know the exact expletive he used, but that is a true story.

Say what you want, but the roster he had was still better than all other ACC teams outside of Clemson and maybe FSU. Full of 4 star and high 3 star players. And a few 5 star guys. Most ACC teams were in the 30’s and beyond in recruiting yearly. The numbers don’t lie. Mario needs a team of 5 star guys and high 4 stars to win. He’s an oline coach ffs. He’s not going to out scheme anyone. That’s why even last year we lost to two teams that had far less talent (SMU with many Miami rejects 😂). Those two teams completely out schemed us. Now the talent gap between us and the rest of the league is much wider! But the biggest difference (and kudos to Mario for this) is that the mindset and leadership of this organization is light years away from where it was when he first got here! Hopefully this is the year we finally not take an L to less talented teams we should blow out.
We had Lucius Stanley toting the rock fam that should never sniff the field at a school like Miami
