Finally Admit Lanning > Mario

Coordinators aren’t dumb. They look at the roster too and know what they can do with it. There is a reason Mario had to settle for G5 Guidry, a washed up DC out of football, and the non play caller from Michigan. You really think those guys were even in his top 5?
He made the wrong hires. Those first two years are on him. He didn’t have to hire Gattis. And Gattis was a broyles award winner the year before and people at Michigan knew he was bull****. Here’s one for you. Mario was told not to hire Gattis by respected person(s) - and I’m not saying who - but he opted to hire him anyway. It was his choice. Remember how stuck on Jason Candle he was?

He made bad choices early as to staff. Like I’ve said, he cleaned up the last time.

I guess the MarioBros wanna keep doing what they did notwithstanding the number of people quoted there who’ve owned up to a number of things relating to Mario, however, some of these MarioBro guys act like it was all good from day 1. It wasn’t. Mario turned over two staffs to some degree because of bad hires. He got it right after that. But ok, keep on 🤦🏻‍♂️
I love Mario, but I agree with you, those dude were bad, but it's not like we were the prize destination for coaches at the time.
He certainly could have found something marginally better then Gattis, yeesh that was bad.

Keep digging that grave.
See what I mean about the haters? They can't give the man his props without bringing up the past. It's never " I was wrong about Mario" , instead it's always " Mario had to learn from his mistakes / I'm glad he adjusted" crap lol! He didn't inherit a 10 win program like the one he left Lanning, nor was he given a 35 million dollar NIL budget in his first season like Kiffin. No Bo Nix his first 2 seasons either, just TVD. Now look at the progress we made with good qb play alone!
Some of us knew Mario inherited a **** roster. But there was a bunch of fans who thought we had a talented roster who could win. Which we all knew was cap. I know I have a post on here saying by the second time we play Florida we would have an elite team, and that team went to the natty. I didn’t expect it to be that good though

OP was November 2024. We were well past the lumps of 2022 and the frustrations of 2023.

The Syracuse loss sucked, but the feeling that "Lanning > Mario" in late 2024 was just wrong. An emotion-driven overreaction to the moment that ignored the program's progress from 2022->2024.
A bit off topic, but, feel like if the progrum ever get in the doldrums again we should just lose in embarrassing fashion in an away game against Syracuse to snap out of it shortly thereafter.

Last 3 times it's happened:

'79 - good stuff happened a few years later and for a good while after
'98 - Natty 3 years later
'24 - played for natty 1 year later...

If anything, the cleansing effect of losing at Syracuse has gotten more powerful. It's like a baseball player slump busting at the local watering hole with a ginormous fat chick.

Many on here say Mario left Lanning a great situation, but the #s say otherwise as far as # of transfers Lanning has made in his tenure to improve his roster. This was year 3 of Mario and Lanning is running circles around him again. Oregon got the better of the deal with Mario coming here
Lanning made some awful DC/OC coordinators and it shows. they have looked bad all year considering the talent
Stien the OC to UK, Tosh Loupo DC to HC at Cal
I have a feeling we wound have a hard time if we lost both Dawson and heatherman in the same year.

Yeah my names on the list.

I was right.

Mario sucked *** the first few years. Made things extremely difficult for no reason.

We were correct in noticing it.

Your blind homerism isn't impressive.

Mario also lucked out getting Cam Ward at the last second. Otherwise it was a battle between Poffenbarger and Emory Williams.

Since that spark of luck, he's been drastically better.

He's significantly raised the quality of play, and simultaneously raised the expectations that I will be holding him, his staff, and his players to.
Man, you need some sunshine in your life my friend.

There’s a lot of people who thought the first two years were subpar who gave Mario credit when it was ultimately warranted and those people and put it on here, some more than once, myself included, yet all of us continue to deal with the dead horse beating super slurpers who were wrong until Mario improved.

There were multiple staff changes because of poor hires.

The time and game management was atrocious. Middle Tennessee, GT…

The offensive approach was wretched.

Mario got it together finally making the right hires the third time, but even last year like when we played SMU, we were reverting to our horrid prevent offense approach. The people you are referring to called it out. They were right.

Some of the people you are referring to were right about Mario the first two years. They were right going after him in the middle of last season when we were reverting to idiocy on the field.

That super slurpers go after people for taking issue with his ****** hires and game management the first two years - or when we went to **** in the middle of last season - is retarded.
Let's also account for the fact that the NIL landscape evolved as well. Plenty of people said wait and see and nobody really understood how deep of a hole the team was in to start. They saw 5-7 and panicked.
