Field Yates picks favorite draft picks

Fair enough. The elephant in the room is that the loss hangs on the defense

But sticking to O- in hindsight it would have been the right call to have Damien Martinez just run the game out. I guess my question is this: when do you override OC and QB1? When it's a two score game? One score? Tied? The concept of running the ball to ice the game makes perfect sense, but when you do it makes all the difference. And Mario got to 10-1, on the verge of the CFP, by riding with Cam and Dawson. It's bitter irony that we could have made the playoffs had Mario reverted to caveman ball for 30 minutes of the season. But that's the rub with 20/20 hindsight.
The irony is right! Mario ball coulda saved the day. It's easy to coach from my couch, and as you mention, hindsight's 20/20, who knows what may have worked to win the game.

I get what you are putting down, there's no easy answer really. It was a fun season all in all.

Damien Martinez was our best running back last year. But I believe part of the reason he transferred to Miami was because he didn’t want to carry the ball 200 times in his final college season.

Crazy how I had to defend him for half a season from the “we don’t have a running game” crowd and now that he’s gone, he was Ricky Williams and Earl Campbell rolled into one.

You're a good bird. I should expect no less from the noble ibis.

You and me both, man.

The GT game wasn’t much different. DM was averaging 5.4 ypc, on 15 carries. It wasn’t a shootout or a large deficit, so there was no reason to throw 39 times. Its not difficult to see if Dawson had leaned more on DM in both games, the results are probably different.

I’ll never complain about letting Cam Ward throw it a 100 times a game. If we lose on his back then we lose

But these two drives will live in infamy in Miami history if we don’t get this figured out

(I don’t wanna be that guy to say if Martinez was in the game over Lyle we win but THERES NO EXCUSE for RB3 being in this ******* game with the entire season on the line)

Yeah I didn’t even get to the part about Martinez being a very good pass catcher

I agree he’s a huge bargain for the Seahawks but Field shoulda stopped there

I despise Marios approach to running back carries

Inevitably some ****head responds “derp it saves them!”

And I just look at the Syracuse game where he was literally unstoppable and think “save them for what exactly?”
RB's need to cook. Its such a vission and feel position, and that is only developed through play. Put your best back on the field and let him get better through his play, don't take him out to give some other dude run.

Not to derail the thread, but the critical lesson from the GT game...We need dudes at DT.
UGA supposedly had a great DLine and did no better. Yeah, they won after what? 8 OT’s? but we know why they won and it had more to do with SEC zebras than players.

I think our DLine was better than it looked. It’s hard to get to the QB when every receiver is open and hard to stop a good QB run option with slow, confused LB’s.
Just my opinion.

You're blaming our inability to stop a 10 minute drive on the refs? What's the excuse against Iowa State? GT in 2023? Louisville? How about Rutgers? We play very few teams with a strong running attack, or the problem would be more pronounced. Typically we need to stunt our linebackers to have any shot at stopping the run, maybe that's why they look confused against teams with any balance.

We need minimum four dudes at DT who can play, if we want to last a full season and be competitive as a playoff team. Those are the table stakes. Or we can wish....

Bro, I said the refs helped UGA, not GT against us. What SEC refs were in our game with GT?
