Fermaninator says get your Adidas Cane gear

To me, switching from Nike, the unquestioned #1 in this game, to the ridiculously mediocre Adidas seems like a culmination of everything we believe to be wrong with UM right now.

It's not just the Swoosh. Something we have been known for and kind of pioneered, we're going away from for convenience that doesn't make sense. The money ain't going toward buying out Golden, and I doubt it will upgrade facilities, and it's a long way away from building us a stadium.

Adidas sucks. Harry at All Canes I'm sure is one ticked off man if this happens. Nike gear is his main squeeze. If it switches to Adidas, so help him God.

It screams mediocrity man. This would be catastrophic. I think some of you are looking at this the wrong way.

Truthfully, Folden and the state of the football program right now are a much bigger problem for Harry at All Canes than a switch to Adidas.

Touche. He doesn't want or need anything else to worry about though.

Agreed, although a switch to Adidas might spur sales of jerseys when they change the jerseys.

changing from a swoosh mark to 3 stripes screams mediocrity? or is it the product on the field? i swear you guys are brainwashed at the church of nike its not that serious bro. mediocre adidas? you know they use the same materials and slaves as nike to build products **** yall are gullible as ****

My point went over your head.[/QUOTE]

you claim adidas sucks and is mediocre when they use the same materials as nike and no difference in craftsmanship, the corporate marketing has really worked you over if you believe nike is so superior. i doubt people identify miami with nike as much as you think i didnt even know auburn was with under armour until someone mentioned it in this thread nobody pays attention to a little logo patch on the jersey its the on the field play. that adidas logo didnt stop bridgewater from destroying this nike team

So guys, what do we think the 3 million is going to?

Not gonna be a buyout. Not sure that 3 million would do anything for a stadium.

Adidas is the worlds #70 most valuable brand with a market cap of $22.76B

Nike is the worlds #21 most valuable brand with a market cap of $65.87B

Is this really on the list of our biggest concerns right now?

Yep. Anyone who thinks differently is a moron. Horrible decision from the school.

DHucks long post had it on the money.

It's symbolic. It's not so much Nike and Adidas, but what it's symbolizing. Miami at one point was top of the world football wise, so Nike naturally would fit the bill as they're on top of their world as well. To move away from that speaks to how the athletics are viewed right now. Adidas ain't nothing, forget all the sheep talk. Affluent folks don't trade their Mercedes E Class for a Hyundai Equus. It's not becoming of who they are. The University of Miami is NOT becoming of f'n Adidas. Adidas is a step above Russell.

Harry at All-Canes is concerned with this? I don't think he cares one bit. The only way someone ends up in his store is if they're a fan of this university with intent to spend money on Miami gear. Should the majority of what's produced be made by whomever, you'll see it there. Sorry, I just found the comment weird.

You know Teddy is sponsored by Nike right lol? C'mon man, you know what I'm saying.

Not sure about shoes, but I'll wager that the apparel is made in the same factories.

Whether it's the same exact factory or not doesn't matter. It's the same overworked 8 year old Chinaman schlocking all that **** together.

A lot of his business is online. Look at his website and tell me what percentage of his merchandise is Nike. He has Adidas too, but you and I know, people by brands. Toyota killed some folks, and people still buy the **** out of them. Why? Because they're f'n Toyota.

I understand and agree with everything you are saying. Too bad some can't and still reduce the issue to something else.

Your opinion ... You're entitled to it. This is a message board ... So, you can post it. But nothing above is factual.

Adidas and Nike aren't comparable to Hyundai and Mercedes ... That's a ridiculous comparison, IMO.

UA, Adidas, and Nike are really like Audi, BMW, and Mercedes ... You prefer the Mercedes, I prefer the BMW, somebody else might prefer the Audi ... But all are FIRST CLASS vehicles.

So, I get people have preferences on this topic ... But Adidas and UA are far from mediocre, IMO ...

This issue is not even remotely emblematic of the problems with our program. In fact, maybe it signals a change for the better. Maybe the AD is going to enter the "arms race" in college football, and they know they need to maximize the income.

I'm willing to see how it plays out before I decide it's "another dumb move" ...

I disagree on the premise that its trading a Mercedes for a Hyundai.

Adidas is a globally recognized brand.

Its more on the level of trading a Mercedes E class for an Audi A6. And regardless of which car that person drives, it doesn't mean **** if their portfolio is tanking.

I think this can work 1 of 2 ways. Nike is a more respected brand and we did the first ever deal. There is history there, there is brand recognition there, and Nike is known for their products. Adidas in the sports world is a lot bigger than a lot of people realize so they can throw the money around. Will this hurt recruiting I am not sure, will this matter to a bunch of people that acutally matter and not fans I am not sure, but this will bring in more money. If our admin squanders Nike then the money we gain from switching on non athletic items it will be over for them. They cannot switch, take the money, and then not use it for sports, I would think this might be in the deal I hope saying if you want the money it has to help the athletics so our products helps this team show up.

No one knows what will happen but half of the gear you buy that is Miami isn't even Nike. I prefer Adidas gear to Nike but I am not the target market. I know these kids grow up with Nike and they are brand loyal with AAU other sponsored events shoved down their throats, but Adidas isn't some 2nd rate hack job they are a huge company. I am torn on this one Nike is history and brand recognition but Adidas is money hopefully for the athletic dept and a change since the Nike uniforms have been hot garbage.

I guess its all based on perception. Many on here perceive Nike to be the leading brand and that Adidas is inferior. Others believe that they are fungible items and that there is no difference in quality or how the respective brands are perceived. The Nike is No. 1 people might be correct.

I am old enough to remember when Adidas and Converse were the preeminent brands in athletic footwear. Nike came out of nowhere in the 1970s and assumed the leadership role in the 80s due to slick marketing including the Jordan line. The Nike-UM partnership was cutting edge back then, but Nike didn't have a stranglehold on the athletic footwear and apparel market then like they do now. Staying with Nike is not cutting edge. Its what everyone does.

Adidas is trying to make inroads into Nike's market position and has taken affirmative steps like hiring leading Nike shoe designers in September and offering schools more money to wear their products. Maybe Adidas will be successful with this strategy and maybe they won't.

I hold UM's administration in contempt because they can fvck up ice water, but this might be a proactive and great move for the school. Aside from getting a bump in revenue, we will no longer be another horse in the stable for Nike and will more likely than not get more attention from the people at Adidas than we were getting from the people at Nike. Perhaps, UM will move back to the pinnacle of college football as Adidas is ascending to the pinnacle of the athletic footwear and apparel market? I don't know.

We're fcked.
