with these gloves they have now idk how anyone drops anything lol

It’s because they haven’t and don’t work at it.

Leonard Hankerson had two literal bricks for hands when he got here. Buddy looked like he was trying to catch a greased pig with rabies. But he worked his absolute *** off, every single day, thousands and thousands of footballs, and he became comfortable and natural catching the ball. Having elite eye/hand coordination at a young age certainly helps, but catching the football is something you can improve on significantly if you’re willing to bust your ***.

Don’t think I have ever seen reports like this regarding a position group, ever lol.

Remember the opener at Boston College back in 2012? I swear the WRs dropped 5+ in the first half alone but then I don’t remember it being an issue really the rest of the year. Anyway, definitely is concerning if it’s as bad as some are making it seem. I guess we will see soon enough.

Hope the Rooster absense is really precautionary. Note that the Chaney expected time lost has been moved up to substantial.

Wish I hadn't spent so much time reading threads about having 5 legit backs, who would start, etc. Turns out you can't have too many and the starter will be among a shrunken list of the not injured.

It's camp.. this is where you work out the bugs...
The sad thing is people here genuinely believe this.

I don't ever remember one position being marginalized like that. We are biased and only follow our own team. I would love to see how it is with other aspiring teams in terms of their WRs. I guess it was somewhat the same last offseason. I said this previously and it induced someone's period. Last season when we crying about the WRs we should have been crying about the tackling before the season started. Point is, we have no context into how these drops are occurring. Are they butt naked open or contested catches ,are they good throws, or behind the receiver. What are we talking about exactly? None of these things we have insight into, all we are hearing is drops all grouped together.

Of course the coaches are not gonna take excuses if the ball hit your hand, and they shouldn't that's how u raised the standard and competition. But it's turn into, we have no players and we be lucky to finish with 8 wins by some and any more optimistic predictions they come for you with the pitch fork because 20 years ago and we have no WR.

Btw I'm a say this. If you ain't going to the games, don't be trying to depress other people who are excited about the team to go watch. U can feel how u feel about what we can be but being excited about watching the team in person is a different level of enthusiasm and some people here seem to only wanna police people expectations. And then claiming that people who predict big things come after the staff when it doesn't happen. Not true, it's depressing mofos who only see bad who have that attitude always. Even if we beat A&M they will be miserable. It's a trait. Even when I was done with Manny I was at VT getn soaked in the rain supporting the players. If any man start a optimistic post certain man run in telling them they are stupid and Yada Yada and destroy the thread. Yet we on a Miami fan site that's about discussing different ideas and point of views..

If u wanna be guaranteed for success before getn excited, Bama and UGA probably still have room on their wagon.

Semi rant over.

"Drops were an issue on Saturday during their second scrimmage and early in the day Tuesday, during drills where offensive coordinator Josh Gattis was essentially pushing a bag into his pass catchers as the ball hit their hands, they continued to be. It was cleaned up as practice went on it but it wasn’t a strong start to the day with multiple scholarship receivers not being able to finish the catch once the bag hit them."

Hopefully they continue to improve.
The bolded is a key point in the quote. It was an issue in the scrimmage Saturday so first day back they are working on improving it. You would not expect to instantly be fixed but that bolded part implies that it improved as practice went along which is what you want to see and kind of the point. Also the fact that first thing next practice they are working on something that was an issue in a game is a breath of fresh air. Seems like under Diaz he never looked to fix issues and just felt they would magically improve.

Props to Mark Duper and Hank wanting to improve. Extra reps with tennis/soccer balls, jug machine, etc

At least Gattis is on it. Just having coach prioritize an issue can make a big difference. Routes may get sloppier, WR blocking less effective, YACs may decrease, but catch the **** ball!!!! I'll take the tradeoff for now.

C'mon Manny took the tackling ring out for a few humps after Mich State, that's fixing it, ain't it?

Hank also had multiple kids to feed while at Miami. He changed his habits out of necessity.
