Fall Practice Summary - Day 2

I think the key with him is just knowing where to go with the ball. He has the fundamentals as far as accuracy, pocket movement and not being a reckless decision maker. Those are traits that separate him from Martell and Perry who can struggle in those areas at times. When you have a lot of skill position talent (and a great defense) you want a guy who protects the ball and can make plays with his legs when needed. That's always been a winning formula at every level of football.

There's a lot more to CB than speed. Specifically you need agility and hips to change directions. I warned fans that Frierson was a high-cut straight-linish dude when we were recruiting him. I said he'd probably be a special teamer and safety project. Striker makes a lot of sense for him as he can run and hit and make plays with the ball in front of him.

I think he was talking Gil should play safety.

I was surprised they moved Smith to safety instead of Gil.

Wish I had more info to understand that thought process. Smith was safety then striker. Gil was Cb. You would think he would be the one moved to the safety position.

Another thing that has helped Williams is his work in the off season on his mechanics. Enos mentioned something to the effect that he has concentrated on correcting what Enos was concerned about and now it look like it is paying off in the eyes of the coaches.

Enos had all the QBs work on things in the off season and they all came back better due to putting in the time correcting it. Tate is throwing a much better ball. He has more zip and spin. The ducks are missing from what I could see.

Perry looks like he improved the least of the 3. His timing looks off on a few throws. Focus on every play could be his problem. But this could bump him from serious consideration since Enos is a perfectionist and want concentration not just every minute but very second they are out there. JMO!

How nice us it that the discussion is which one looks the best and not which is least likely to fvck up?

QB play N’Kosi Perry was the most inconsistent of the three, and his accuracy varies based on what route he is throwing.

You guys take it easy, it was the weekend, after all.

I get what u are saying, but doesn't the stiker in our system cover a good bit, some say the position might even do a little more 1 on 1 covering than our Safeties,

i've gotten this vibe too. i wouldn't be completely surprised if experience/familiarity with his teammates (not the offense, obviously, but just timing with the guys he's throwing to) carried him through the spring but now martell and williams have caught up after a summer of work. HAVING SAID THAT.....it's 2 practices, so we'll see what happens lol.

And that’s why Gil should be a DB. I feel he’s being misused at Striker. Former cb with coverage skills and that burst needs to be on the backend. Striker should be reserved for former DBs that outgrow the position or don’t have the speed/instincts to excel there.
Derwin James played a striker type role for the Noles and now the Chargers and he is probably the best Safety in the NFL at this point. Having an instinctive, fast and hard hitting striker is critical in today's game.

James measurable's:
6-foot-3, 215 lbs
40-yard 4.47 seconds
40-inch vertical jump

Frierson measureable's:
6 foot 1, 200 lbs
40-yard 4.50 seconds
32 inch vertical

James wasn't to good to spend half his time in the front 7 so I don't think Frierson is either

Lol vt is horrible
We've got to bring our "A" game all season long, but we've blown them out the past two seasons. Considering this game is at the rock, and they've got a slew of roster issues, it'll be interesting to see what happens.
