Fall Camp Developments that would boost your confidence...

And a true freshman QB wouldn't personally lose us a game this year?

It's hilarious people think Richt will somehow not play the best guy. If one of the others beats out Rosier, that's great. But Jarren is a true frosh and Perry looked even more inconsistent and erratic than Rosier in the Spring Game
Think the schedule is harder and our DL and OL has more question marks.

Schedule is harder. Rosier had one road game >48.3% last season.

At Dallas v LSU
At VT
At UVA
At BC
At GT

<48.3% ain’t gonna cut it.

If QB play isn’t remarkably better, whoever QB1 is, we’re going to struggle on the road again.

-Rosier is showing consistency
-Offensive line shines
-Young D lineman show there ready to contribute

I’m looking forward to hearing in order.

1. Malik Rosier up his game. At least 64% completion. Not too many interceptions.

2. Defensive Line everyone says they feel good but we lost 3 very productive starters. Let’s see how this group actually gels and plays as a unit.

3. OL improvement. These guys were still getting mauled around a big reason for many of our struggles in addition to Rosier. Prayerfully this group gets better.

4. The other outside corner opposite of Michael Jackson and the CB depth. Will Bandy go outside? or will someone else? Who is that someone else and also our 4th and 5th corners.

simply put, to hear reports of a more accurate Rosier, who has a better command of this offense

Also for a RT to emerge to solidify the OLine

And whats not being talked about enough - the kicking game to be settled. Some real questions marks there

Bethel is the most underrated Cane on the current roster. I think we see a Jaquan Johnson like leap from So to JR year with Bethel. He will be an Outland candidate his Sr year.

Go Canes!

I don’t understand how people don’t get that this team will be better THIS YEAR with Malik than it would with Jarren running the show. Everyone agrees that Jarren will be better but this not gone be the year. I’m not a huge Malik fan but give me a guy that knows the offense well enough to put us in position to win.
Experience is the only advantage Malik has, & he either didn't know the playbook fully last season or the coaches didn't trust him making some of the throws the plays called for. It was clear he was limited. We're not talking Peyton Manning here. His knowledge of the offense probably isn't anywhere close to what you think it is.

Now consider the fact that Jarren got here in the Spring & is more "like a redshirt freshman", in Richt's words, & has a rep for being a grinder.

Malik's advantage is the number of games he's played in & his demonstrated composure in late game scenarios.

As far as the OP, I'd be encouraged if Jarren earned some PT vs LSU. While I'm hesitant to think he'll win QB1 based only on practice/scrimmage performances, I think he'll make his case when he sees the field...& the sooner the better. I think he could take this year's team further than next year's depending on who declares early, but that's another thread for another day. Bottom line, I'd rather not go into FSU with Malik as the only QB with experience vs a good, athletic D.

Agreed. Experience is the only difference but it’s a big one. I’m not saying he isn’t limited, I think it’s just more physical limitations than mental, I could be wrong though. But how much more limited would Jarren be at this stage mentally? I want a new QB as much as anybody but I just don’t think it’ll happen this year without an injury, huge leap from a backup, or Pittsburgh Malik shows up early in the season.

I get what you're saying, but times have changed. Yes, experience is huge. Knowing how to lead the team - an important characteristic for Richt - is a big part of that. But when it comes down to it, Jarren's been here long enough to earn some reps if he knocks it out during camp. A spring & a summer before fall camp completely changes things, & I'm sure he knew that coming in. He knows it's there for the taking; the talent disparity is too big. He can take this offense to new heights. It's not that I think Malik isn't good enough to win a bunch of games with this loaded squad...I just see what this team could do this year if Jarren's as good as I think he is.

FSU could have easily lost 5 or 6 games when they went to the inaugural 2014 playoffs, how did that workout? They were 13-1 on the season

worked out with them getting completely humiliated on national television when they ran into a quality opponent, just like we did against clemson. that fsu team was 13-1, but certainly weren't better than 2014 baylor or michigan state. that #5 final ranking was a joke.

Obviously that was the result but I’m just talking about their overall record despite having close games. Just because it’s a close win doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be counted when over the years Miami in particular couldn’t win close games

The only way a Clear QB2 emerging is a good thing is if that QB2 is Rosier.

the ONLY thing Im really concerned about is #1 The OL, and #2 the QB. I'm confident in the defense and offensive skill players.

Not a bad argument from that perspective. Lookin forward to see how this plays out.

Fall camp developments that would boost my confidence:

OL starting 5 is settled early on and practices a bunch before LSU.
George and Choc look good as FBs along with the TEs looking good in short yardage drills.
Special teams getting better all- around. Baxa is confirmed as the real deal.

- FB’s, are they ready to play tough, rugged plays. They’re both going to be the lead blockers for Homer & Co., that and catching balls out of the backfield to add another element to the passing attack.

- QB, whoever we start against LSU, remain composed and show the team that they’re the leader. Make some hard passes when necessary and show the offense that they know the playbook and can carry the team when required.

- OL, become a cohesive group and make big enough holes as a unit to spur our rushing attack. Create necessary pockets for the QB to have room to get out good, clean passes.

- DL, gel together and remember the need to hold up against the run. Then when we have teams in 3rd and long situations, use their rushing passion to get to the QB.

- LB, don’t just become gap assignment players, read & react, help close out lanes, and make the tackle. Do better work during coverage downs to blanket opponent WR’s.

- CB, stay locked on receivers, don’t lose the battle of leverage and inside position. High point the ball so we can knock it away or come down with it. Find a CB2 that compliments MJ, and allows Bandy to play the nickel CB role.

- P, doesn’t have to lead the nation but does need to get off high, angled punts that allow our ST time to get down the field. Reduce or completely eliminate shanks.

-K, use fall camp to develop a rhythm when doing FG kicks so when the lights go on, he can trust the process and kick. Create more touch backs during KR’s.

- Coaches, be more aggressive on offense. Utilize the talent and skill sets of the players we have amassed at the different levels of offensive players. Use the freshmen to out advantage and don’t just throw them out there in hopes they’ll make a huge play. Get the confidence where it needs to be in order for them to shine this season. Defensively, quit always blitzing on 3rd downs, mix it up and throw offenses off of what we’re attempting to do. Trust the talent we have on defense and maximize plays to their abilities.

The biggest one would be if Rosier could hit water if he fell out of a boat. Just rewatched the VT game the other day, good lord

I don't know that there is going to be a clear QB2 until they can be evaluated based on in-game performance. It's going to be so important to get out ahead of teams we should be way out ahead of, so these kids can get some meaningful playing time.

No injuries.....we can't afford any injuries to DT or OT this year. An injury to either position worries me the most
