Fall Camp 2025 PractiSe 8 - Friday August 8

Pretty simple in my eyes:

anything under 40 kick the field goal assuming Auburn isn’t totally broken.

Anything over 40: weigh the options of going for it depending on down and distance or playing field position…. If our corner portal haul elevates our defense as well as if our d line plays to standard I'm in the field position approach

We need the Aussie kicker to elevate his game. Last year was so so

Borgy was as important to Miami Ws last year as 3rd down conversions.

So, our Canes have lost Cam to X and it appears we have the Second Coming of Bubba Baxa at K.

For context...Borgy the Viking converted 6 kicks over 40 last season.

Told yall… doesn’t even have Kosi to worry about… lmao
I am not mad at the kid. He sucks.

It’s the decision making process in how he got here. There are a thousand kickers out there that would’ve transferred here and someone made the decision to settle on Auburn given his track record.

It’s one thing if you bring someone in with a good record and then they struggle. That would be unfortunate.

Bringing in a dude with a terrible track record, well, that is malpractice.

We are left with praying for a miracle that he turns it around somehow.

Like WTF!!!

Good god, Pete on the pod this morning mentioned Bert Auburn still hasn't won the kicking job.

Ability to convert on 4th downs in an effort to avoid the kicking game is going to be a topic this season.
Aside from the Borregales brothers and Lou Hedley, specials has been an absolute ****show for years. I’d assume Mario will go for it when he has to. Especially with this OL.

Auburn misses inconsistenly, which is the worst thing a kicker can do. It means he doesn't have a consistent way of hitting the ball and tends to overcompensate the tilt that the holder gives you. If you miss all the time in the same direction, it at least means that someone has consistent mechanics.

But that's not entriely his fault. The kicking operation for Texas was a complete ****show last season. Bad snaps, poor holds, wrong timing, atrocious blocking... kicking is 95% mental and 5% physical ability. It's an operation that needs good execution at absolutely every part of the play itself and any issue or botch leads to a miss.

I don't know if he misses in the same direction currently or not. I don't hate the fact that we have a competition for the spot. But Auburn doesn't have a strong leg to begin with, which makes him not good for placekicking.

It dumbfounds me how a college team in South Florida is incapable of recruiting a kicker from high school. Shouldn't happen.

Decision Tree:

A. Inside the 35, kick it.

B. Outside the 35, go for it.

Tattoo this on Mario's right forearm. Tattoo "Take a knee with under 90 seconds" on his left forearm.

Cristobal already talked about the competition publicly

"It's tight," Cristobal said. "Strong legs with experience. Obviously our snapper and holder, we think really highly of those guys so they've been instrumental in helping these guys get better at kicking and today we also kicked off, which is a huge part of winning the job as well. Who could kick it out the end zone if possible on every opportunity, but it's tight. It's tight and we're going to put them in every pressure situation every day as best we can and we'll figure it out before game one”
Are they battling for K distance or is the implication FG accuracy?

Both?

hard to disagree. hard to imagine kicking not being a problem this year. could lose a game or two because of it.
