Explain this to me

Richt didn't just forget how to coach. It's been a slow, gradual decline. Don't be fooled by UGA winning 10 games last year. We were a paper tiger. The only team we beat with a winning record was Georgia Southern...in overtime. There's a reason we were the first 10-win team in history to finish unranked. We were awful and he left the cupboard bare.

Richt was an elite coach from 2001-2005. He showed flashes after that: 2007 and 2012. But the truth is, his recruiting had dropped way off. Our OL this year, with his players, is horrendous. We have no wide receivers and have to start a freshman QB. Reading this board is almost a carbon copy of what was on the Dawgvent during his last several years.

You'll love Richt as a person. He's an awesome and genuinely good person; but he hasn't been fully invested in coaching since Kathryn got cancer years ago (and there were some other family issues as well). Football just isn't his top priority...and good for him, because I put my family ahead of my career, too. But I'm not paid $4 million a year. When you're paid that kind of money, you're being paid to put everything else on the backburner.

There was talk around Athens starting around 2013, from people close to him, that he was about a year away from retiring. Then we'd have a disappointing year and he'd decide to stick around another year. So after being forced out at UGA, I was shocked he took another job. I really think he took y'all's job out of spite for our AD...because the last few years, he looked completely beaten down, too. But spite, despite being out of character for Richt, won't fuel him long enough to be successful. He's washed up...and has been for about 4-5 years.

Thread Killa, you’re a puzzy too but I do appreciate these bumps. Yea we all say something off every now and then, but the majority of you soft shouldered skinny jeans wearing smart car drivers are constantly tucking your nuts.....

Y’all like to hedge your bets so that when you are right you think it makes you like smart. Dhastitis is the king of that ****.....

Interesting thread in retrospect. When Richt was hired I wondered if his coaching pilot light still burned bright enough or if he's best days as a coach were behind him. I had concerns during last years October malaise and his insistence on running so much doggone I-formation and running it(for little yardage) on early downs.

But recently I've gone back to some of his older interviews and stuff and the one thing I didn't realize was that he has a bit of an edge to him(if he doesn't like a certain question from the media, he has some bite to him). For all this faith he is a real competitor. And I truly believe that leaving UGa has rejuvenated him( I think both parties are better off), sometimes relationships just run their course and sputter at the end for whatever reason. It's clear he loves Miami/So Florida and being back at his alma mater - calling plays and coaching QBs again

IMO, Richt understands that he's missing one thing from his resume' - that's a national title. He knows he can win them at UM, couple of them, in fact. I sense this as I see him talk now, he can have a late career run like a Dr. Tom Osborne, I believe. But the tired guy that some saw in Athens looks like an individual completely at peace with himself, a certain sense of serenity but also someone who is having a great time doing what he does.

This is a **** of a post.

Now of course WINNING will do this to you, but since Richt got here you could just sense his enthusiasm. He sounded refocused. He’s clearly having a blast out there right now.

I think Dawgfather nailed it and we are reaping the benefits of a renewed, refocused Mark Richt

I’ve never been a guy that just blurts our emotional **** about football but i straight up said i thought Richt would quit after we lost that 4th straight last year.

It happens.

**** I was delusional........that what all that Coker SHannon and Golden **** turned me retarded

We all say dumb **** D. Who gives a ****. The dark days ****ed us all up for sure.

Some more than others, but I agree.

Hey if I say anything negative about the team or something bad Im always happy when Im wrong about that so its a win win for me, as long as the canes are good im str8

word. as much as we break balls if we win #6 worst enemies on here will become best friends lol

Is that the source of all this? That no one could possibly top the Butch Davis hire from the mid 1990's? Yeesh. No wonder people wanting Butch are limited to the 305 area code! There are tons of coaches that would flourish in Miami. The thing is, Richt (being an alumnus) had the heart and desire to do it. Richt had a great sense for playcalling and an understanding of the game. Listen to any of his interviews. He knows what went right and wrong. He knows that if players fail to execute the majority of the time, then it isn't on the player anymore. It's on the play caller and designer.
Miami has been a middling team with sub par coaches at the helm. No one is wanting Coker, Shannon, or Golden to lead their programs. Immediately following Richt's firing, UVA was begging. That's only what happened with him being on the market for a day.
Tell me what UGA's record would be with Coker, Shannon or Golden at the helm for the last 15 years.
Now look at the game day performance of Botch Davis. You think that dude was beating the 2005 LSU team? Or winning an SEC title like ever?

This thread aged well.

Props to DWins for standing up like a man to own that L. Hope everyone will remember the next time a bad series or even, heaven forbid(gasp), an actual loss rolls around.

Tired of the ancient thread bumping, but glad to be reminded of this crap. Frankly, there has been a lot of BS posted even this year. I think my fave was the dude who posted on the film review thread by HurricaneVision that he couldn’t be bothered to read HV’s film breakdown, but then went on to say some crap about we need a “real OC”, more motion or some other oft-repeated but meaningless and completely debunked by film review tripe.

The great part about this site is the varying perspectives and info brought that allows us all to share and learn from one another. The crap part is the jumping in front of either the parade or the mob with pitchforks in the effort to be the first and toughest to be “right”.

He wasn't calling plays at GA...and we're seeing why.

All that time he's WASTING, and I say wasting cause he's really bad at, is hurting the team in every other facet where he SHOULD have his attention focused.

He's the worst OC we've had here since Pat Nix. Period.

I can agree with this but at the same time no ones convincing me we undefeated unles urban meyer is oc. We dont even have a mobile dude back there.

This team doeant have that much talent like people boast up on here. I been saying this **** forever man the age of the net and camps killed miamis advantage in recruiting....i dont know if we can recover from it.

Gove me juedy and everyother elite sfla kid.....if butch can do it and saban can if he was the miami coach then mr better do it. *** excuses n that they grew up watching this team or that team....make them playhere give them no choice. Be the godfather dont take no for an answer

You're underestimating just how bad this offense is and how much it is impacting the rest of the team. Richt had great players at GA and had difficulty in big games...as I mentioned before his record against ranked opponents has a big enough sample size that it's a concern.

He needs to give up OC duties this offseason...otherwise everyone is going to be off the band wagon and it's going to get ugly.

Hahahahahaha! This post certainly did not age well! Troll!

You're a moron. What I stated in that post was 100% accurate at the time based on how he had called games leading up to that point.

I've stated several times on this board that something positive happened to Richt starting with the 2nd half of the FSU game and has continued throughout the rest of the season. We've seen ALL THE THINGS MANY OF US YELLED FOR...like more slants, QB draws, and routes over the middle of the field.

If anything, what has happened SINCE the 2nd half of the FSU game has done nothing but prove what many of us said about Richt's playcalling at the time. On this thanksgiving I'm thankful that Richt recognized his mistakes, swallowed his pride, and adjusted his playcalling.

But by all means, keep being a moron and attempting to hand pick posts and do the hindsight thing. I've been around this community a long time and stand by what I post. Meanwhile you'll probably change your handle 4 or 5 more times in the upcoming years.
