I don't want to lose my mind here, but expectations by very nature have to be realistic. Otherwise they are dreams or hopes, right? I hope to win the lottery, and I expect to start back to school Wednesday!

Great Head Coach
Unknown first time OC
**Richt calling plays**
Unknown first time QB Coach
Very solid WRs, TEs, OL coaches
*I am hopeful* with our DC. I like him. I also have to wonder about the defense in Richt's history.
I think we may have the best DL coach in the nation!
The secondary coaches are relative unknowns.

I think we have a great mix on our staff. Talent was not the issue for UGA on defense. I am hopeful that our defense will be better than UGA's was. I expect that it will perform better if only because the offensive teams we face are not a strong as those in the SEC. I also think that Miami, has had very good to great defenses minus the last Dorito clown. Even with Shannon they were okay.

We return a top flight quarterback.
We return solid running backs.
We are thin at wr, and look to be counting on 3 freshman to help out. It isn't ideal, but freshmen can step into the wr role quicker than other spots. I would like to think that Matt Ryan would make our OL look better than it is. I didn't want to compare BK to Aaron Rogers!
I think we bring back a nice group of TEs.
The OL is a huge question mark. I do not know what to expect. This next comment may not be fair, but if Richt determined our OL was garbage at the very least he could have recruited a few JUCO OL, JUCO DL to convert to OL (the kind that are good athletes, but maybe not quite good enough to play major d1 DL football), or some talented high school DL that weren't quite good enough on the DL, but could project well on the OL. That didn't happen, so I expect that Richt has a plan.

I admit I may be looking more favorably at the 3 frosh WRs and the returning RBs than is warranted. BUT I don't think I am way off here. I don't think I am overstating the OL concerns. I also think I am spot on with BK! I think I am spot on with the TEs also. We should score some points. Offensively my biggest concerns are as follows:

1. Closing out games by running the ball.
2. Goal line to the 20 yard line. I think our 20 to 20 offense will be great/very good.

Some teams have recently been trash, but over the 15 years Richt was in Athens he did face some solid offenses.

I think one way I am looking at it is like this:

Take Bama and LSU. They have had some low scoring battles with a heck of a lot of running. But how do they do when they played schools outside the conference? Some good and some bad Im sure.

I just pulled 2010 out of my ***. It may be an outlier, it may support your claim more, or mine! Im looking at SC and Auburn since they played in title game. They both blew out a few OOC cupcakes. But I didn't come away feeling like I was super supported! LOL

I'm curious about this as well.

If we play up-tempo like I'm hoping, with our TE's, pass catching RB's (Walton and Yearby are near elite in that aspect), and WR's, I'm not sure many teams can hang with us.

I think Kaaya is good, but he has a lot he needs to get better at, and I think the most important might be his pocket presence and decision making. I think our Oline isn't just a question, I thinks it's plainly below average, until they prove otherwise. Kaaya better be able to work the pocket well and make quick and good decisions, masking our OL's problems. However if our OL is able to step up I think our defense is going to give us more than enough opportunities to win the game.

The thing I want to see the most though is our Red zone touchdown percentage and 3rd down success rate drastically improve. those were two things under Golden that he could never do well.

Also, I agree Njoku should be Kaaya's best friend, as he should be to strong for DB's, but too fast and quick for most LBs. He will be crucial, especially with 3 frosh wrs getting a lot of pt. We really need Stacy Coley to step up and stay healthy all year. Richards is the most important of the frosh wrs though, because I don't see Berrios losing to much pt to Bruce.

Im not so low on the O-line as some here are, a lot of the struggles had to do with the kehoe shuffle and crappy play calls and blocking scheme, we have talent there

We can only go up not running shotgun 95% of the plays getting play calls from a high school coach. Forgot, we have a fullback now

We don't have an "unknown first time OC". Richt is the OC in reality if not in title. If you know his offenses from FSU it's going to be really fast and fun to watch. I expect to score at least 40pts per game and not be afraid to "run it up" on other teams in the spirit of competition.

also had to do with practicing against a defensive scheme predicated on DL holding blocks instead of penetrating.

Our edge is with our TEs and pass-catching RBs. So get the defense in tight with a power running game and then put their coverage integrity to the test with the PA and formation shifts.

The defense will be defined by the DL. Games are won up front, and if they don't perform, Miami will get gashed trying to get pressure. I do think it will be better. Norton losing weight helps, but AQM and Chad are going to have to bring pressure.

Fullback is going to critical in this offense. An effective power running game is what has been missing.

More 21 and 22 personnel is going to help control tempo, help in goal-line situations, which will help red-zone scoring. The power running game should help this offense get ahead in downs, get four to five yards so they can be in 2nd and 5 and 3rd and 2, instead of 2nd and 3rd and long. Increase 3rd down conversion rates, keep the chains moving.

I remember a jawja fan posting here wrote, don't be surprised if on 3rd and long Richt calls a draw.

Richt might as well carry the titles of OC and QB coach. Nothing against his son or T.Brown but CMR made it clear that he wants to be more hands-on here, which is fine by me.

I love T.Brown as a RB coach. I think Walton and Yearby are going to kill it.

Hartley has three TEs that he can rotate as he sees fit. Very solid group.

Dugans has Coley, Berrios, Lewis...everyone else is a total unknown but you would expect one or two guys to emerge.

If the OL makes the necessary leap then this should be a **** good offense.
