Executive Order Limits NCAA Athletes to Five Seasons in Five Years; One Transfer without Sitting Out a Year

That’s why this is such a bad thing. Some schools will go crying to him that they followed his rules and they are losing to schools who didn’t. His ego will then force him to lash out. Obedience must be rewarded. Defiance punished. It’s right out of the handbook.

I wonder what would happen if he tried to withhold funds from Miami, and then we pulled his granddaughter's golf scholarship. I mean, we all know that he could easily write a check for tuition, but it would still be pretty funny.

This executive order doesn’t actually ban transfers. It gives every player one free transfer, and after that, they’d have to sit out a year unless they’re a grad transfer. So it’s more about creating some structure rather than taking away player movement entirely

Before the NIL, all transfers, besides grads, had to sit out year. Didn’t see a whole lot of complaining then
Guarantee scholarships for four years, make players employees and allow them to collectively bargain transfer rules. Otherwise, the NCAA can kick rocks. People ***** about transfers but are totally okay with coaches pushing players out if they’re not good enough.

I've been saying 5 to play 5 for years. This McCormick, Toure, etc stuff is a joke. The average student takes 5 years to graduate college anyway.
Disagree on guys with legit medical redshirts. Toure had 3 ACL reconstructions and hasn’t played 4 seasons. What I don’t agree with are the guys who played Juco for 2 years so that shouldn’t count or the BBall players who played professionally overseas for 5 or 6 years and now decide to go to college.

POTUS was asked, and willingly agreed, to try and help. Unlike typical politicians that sit on their hands and want to hold countless meetings that get nothing accomplished. Trump has at least given the issue some spotlight. Whether or not his EO has any bite is yet to be seen. Expecting Congress to get involved, yet alone come up with a solution, is a pipe dream.

Unlike desk jockey keyboard warriors, I’ve had first hand experience dealing with one of most corrupt unions in the country - the UAW. Be careful what you ask for in establishing a union to oversee a CBA for college athletics. The NCAA will seem like child’s play compared to the potential corruption a union brings.

The transfer issue is already out of control with countless “agents” already involved. It’ll literally take an act of Congress to reign in all this chaos. Good luck with that.

So a regular student can transfer to a new school every year if they want but an athlete can't just because they pay a sport and fans don't like it.

Who gives a **** if anyone "requested Trump's involvement". The NCAA also begged Congress to act FOR YEARS and it didn't happen.

Just like when a homeless person asks you for money, that doesn't mean you have to give him money.
Plus not once in this process has anyone taken the time to get the thoughts and opinions of the actual athletes and not just those that make billions off of them.

His EO has zero bite. You dont even have to wait and see. POTUS and Congress has more important issues at hand right now

You know how many dudes pull up with a 'hamstring pull' to save their medical redshirt? Too much gray area. Toure should be in the UFL.

That’s why you have to petition the NCAA for a medical red shirt. It’s not a guarantee. Unless you’re saying just to get rid of medical red shirts so as an example the basketball player this past year who missed the year because he had cancer, you’d be telling him sorry tough luck. No way in the world is that acceptable in my opinion.

And Toure missed three complete seasons if I remember correctly. Believe he had three complete ACL reconstructions either from spring camp or fall camp prior to the season and missed an entire three seasons. Yes an extreme example but in my opinion, if they have four years of eligibility to play, you give them the four years to play.

I don’t disagree with that at all — schools shouldn’t be able to pull scholarships or make empty promises, and players probably do need more protection. But unlimited transfers isn’t fixing that, it’s just created complete chaos.

There’s gotta be some middle ground here. Whether it’s contracts, rules, or eventually collective bargaining, the current system just isn’t sustainable

We’re aligned.

My issue is an ill informed politician is unduly influenced by the NCAA and conferences with zero player input to wave his hand and reset rules that need to be worked out meticulously in CB and the courts. This isn’t a game of tic tac toe. This stuff is complex and he just introduced bias (and corruption IMO) back into the process.

Cancer and a knee injury aren't the same thing. No one in the world is comparing a knee injury (time to move on) to cancer (let's rally and support)

The bold. That’s it really, and what he does for many things. The EO won’t do **** but it may press the issue to a legal resolution. He didn’t wake up and do this. He was asked to intervene.

Edit: I want to add that they should’ve had player input.

That was my point. Bringing attention to a complicated issue. His EO will more than likely have no affect but it may prompt some action from those that can have an affect.

Nope. Not going to put up with this "but Trump just gave the issue SPOTLIGHT" bull****.

His executive order claims to invalidate state laws and threatens to withhold federal funding from colleges and universities.

That is not "spotlight". That is bullying and threatening to get ONE PERSON'S WAY, without legislative action or the consultation of anyone impacted.

If you think a few dozen (mostly retired) coaches and (former) players, in a 2-hour meeting, without the input of current players, was enough to form a coherent policy or "executive order", you have got to be kidding yourself.

It is irrelevant whether he was "asked to intervene". He has been asked to intervene on a lot of **** that he ignored.

This is not good policy, and he doesn't even have the power to do what he claims he can do.

"Spotlight"...what a load of rationalizing bull****.

Let's not forget his ORIGINAL opinions on executive orders:

If he wants to "bring attention to a complicated issue", he can do that with words. The press prints every word that comes out of his mouth anyhow.

The NCAA has done nothing. Congress has done nothing. But somehow an unenforceable executive order is going to "prompt some action from those that can have an affect".

All this executive order does is create chaos and confusion about what the actual rules are. And the SEC goes right back to handing out fast food bags filled with cash.

Getting players involved would be positive. That being said, an 18 year old freshman, with a few exceptions, would probably not have the necessary perspective to contribute meaningful observations. A player like Mesidor - mature, experienced, insightful - would be an excellent choice to add meaningful observations and perspective

That’s exactly the point. Neither of those 2 organizations have done a **** thing except create chaos. With the EO, Trump laid out a POSSIBLE way forward. Nothing more. Nothing less.

With the press printing/yaking about his every word, it does bring some light to the issue. As with any issue politicians get involved with, I wouldn’t expect a solution anytime soon.
