From his mailbag today (on The Athletic... pay site, though if you're not a subscriber, you are missing out):

By the way, this is the first time I’ve looked at Stassen’s site this preseason, and two things immediately caught my eye. One, look at that Michigan love. My goodness. Someone remind me the definition of insanity? And also, I have a new ready-made answer whenever anyone asks the inevitable, “Which team is getting too much hype coming into the season?”

Florida, followed by Florida, followed by Florida again.

Love it.

I've said it before, but things are really all in line for a major upset.

Miami has a new, first time HC, tainted by being associated with the previous coach. The offense was anemic last year and some big names on defense have graduated. We still don't have a clear leader at the QB position. People simply don't expect much.

Florida came on strong at the end of the season and are ranked tenth preseason. There's no reason to think they won't steamroll an unranked Miami team.

The problem is if you look closely, you'll see that first glance is completely false.

Agree 100%, JD. The nation-wide thinking on the game (and even the line in Vegas, IMO) is completely skewed by the optics of 2018. UF ended on a super high note and we looked like dogsh-t. But it won't be anywhere near the same two teams on that field in a few weeks. I'm already on Miami+8 and Miami+250. I feel real good about this game! And I would MUCH rather our Canes be the written off underdog coming into this one, so it's all lining up perfectly.

I’ve been saying it, they’re Miami last year

Been saying it for 6 months.

You want some money this year, take a grand and put it on the gator under 9 wins.

If the stars align, they can win 9. But they absolutely will not win 10. 8 wins or less is FAR more likely than 10.

And if we beat them 8/24, they have a 0.0% chance for 10 wins.

O/U was 9? ****, that’s easy money .

Where does one go to actually place such bets. I live in SC and have no clue. But that is easy money and I would legitimately do that.
I used to bet on Bovada.lv. That was 5+ years ago so there may be better ones now, but I never had any issues with Bovada re sports betting, poker, or payouts.

Mandel and Bruce Feldman have a podcast called The Audible that's a good listen. I love Mandel calling out UiF here but I have disagreed with a lot of his other takes in the past but he doesn't come off as having an agenda or as a propagandist. Feldman obviously balances it nicely with his focus on Miami and his insight into the LA programs.

I don't know the South Carolina laws but there are several reputable off-shore sports books you can use. Just google and see what you find. And as always, shop around if you can. I've seen 9 as the number everywhere I've looked, but one place I remember had -110 another had -140. If you're going to put a grand down, that's a $300 difference.

I'm on both UF under 9 and Miami over 8.5. I see a win/push as worst case scenario; though I think both will cash (especially if we win the opener).

Does the win totals also take into account the conference championship and bowl game, or is it just regular season?

There could be truth to that. Since humans did not exist yet, that would explain why gators don’t act like humans.
Their ancient creatures which have remained unchanged since the dinosaur era. Same with ****roaches.

At least that's what I read on TV.

Why do they call them ****roaches anyway? Where's they're ****?
