Here's the thing. Is there cause to fire Al Golden? Of course. But if we're being real, we know that's not going to happen. We've come up with eleventy billion different charts, graphs, and smoke signals illustrating how terrible he's been. His record sucks.

But he's not getting fired. Public opinion is back on his side. Supposedly some of the boosters that weren't happy have backed off (or at least don't have leverage now).

So basically we're left with hoping he's improving. There is SOME evidence to support.

In comparison, Randy was clearly trending down in 2010. We got absolutely demolished by FSU at home, then sleepwalked through the rest of the season. We were playing our worst football at the end of the year. And let's not forget that he completely quit on recruiting. We only had, what, four guys committed in December? That's ridiculous.


We've actually looked like a real football team for about a month now. Golden's ****** record aside, we're undeniably playing better. Virginia Tech isn't good, but we did what you're supposed to do to inferior teams. We curb-stomped them. We were expecting UNC to light up the scoreboard on us. We completely dismantled their offense and **** all over them like we were supposed to. We went toe-to-toe with the defending champs, and were a couple fluke plays away from beating them (Karlos Williams's TD is the fakest thing I've ever seen).

Golden has sucked. It shouldn't have taken him so long to put together a quality team. But he's finally done it. We have a quality football team right now.

The question is can he sustain this?

Probably not, but at least it's something we can hang our hats on. Maybe we ****-kick UVA, Pitt, Notre Dame in a bowl game, then close with 4 or 5 stud recruits.

Did Randy's teams look like they were trending upward? I recall the feeling of Randy losing the team and no signs of improvement to come. At least with Golden it has picked up after the slow start this season, No one can deny the improvement we have seen- so much so that we are ****ed we lost a close one to FSU! (a definite blowout loss in our eyes at the midpoint of this season).

Offensive is looking bright with a young QB and an OC which has shown improvement, a defense that is ranked MUCH better than previous years. And yes I bring up the defensive ranking- **** that's all that was brought up last season with it being 100+, only fair to bring it up this year.

Golden also dealt with sanctions and is a good face for the program- both pluses that Randy did not have. For the record I'm not a Golden slurper, I think he deserves one more year WITH changes to the staff. This offseason is the best opportunity to get T-Rob from UF.

If he does not make any changes to the staff he should be canned after National Signing Day, before spring ball. This is me assuming he wins his last two very winnable games and the bowl game (probably against a lesser team due to our record).

Fans are celebrating a close defeat at home to Florida State. Comparisons to Miami's 1999 team are being made. Optimism is at an all time high. Many have begun claiming Al Golden as the next Butch Davis. Fans are excited at the progress Miami has made over its last 4 games -- a loss, and wins over a mid-major and two .500 teams. Orange ties are being put on babies. Pleated khaki sales are at an all time high. Home Depot can't keep pillars on the shelf. He is met with a hero's reception when he returns to town. Flowers are thrown at his feet as he is carried back to his office. "We love your beautiful white skin!" They shout. "Beautiful hair," they scream from below.

I can only compare their records up to this exact point, Beef Stew, as I do not have a crystal ball. Saying "he finished 7-6" is irrelevant for this conversation.

I can also only compare their performances through 10 games, and the reactions of the fan base to those performances. These are all facts. If it makes you uncomfortable, sometimes that's what happens when a mirror is held up.



As far as trends, I only can tell you this..

Average margin of defeat through 10 games in Shannon's 4th season: 14 points
Average margin of defeat through 10 games in Golden's 4th season: 11 points

Average margin of victory through those 10 games for Shannon: 20 points
Average margin of victory through those 10 games for Golden: 22 points



The similarities are startling. Well, except for the fans' reaction.

The biggest difference is, that team had a sr qb. We have a true freshmen, and we actually look better then that team.
I didn't believe in Golden at all after that GT game, then as the season went on. We actually got a lot better. I believe in this team, not sure about Golden yet.
Either way, this has been said ad nauseum but next year were looking real good I think.

I'm mixed race. I guess you and I are just from the old school. I'm pleased that a black man had the OPPORTUNITY to become the head coach at the university of Miami. That might seem like a given today but it wasn't always that way.

But Opportunity means the opportunity to succeed, and also the opportunity to fail. It doesn't mean a free *** ride. So the black coach got fired, who gives a ****? Just yesterday, a white coach got fired at Florida. many many more white coaches will get fired this year. Because it's about football and it's about dollars and butts in seats and TV contracts.

Big difference (so far) between Golden's fourth year and Randy's fourth year.

The thing that pains me so much is that Golden clearly has been learning on the job, something that should not be acceptable here. If we could do it over again, I don't think Golden gets hired because of how many games he has cost us. But we are where we are, and to look back is just too painful.

Although we've played better these last four games, and even if we win out, Golden still has MAJOR WORK needed to be done.

1) He needs to fire several assistant coaches ( DNo would be a great fire but he doesn't have it in him) and he really needs to hit home runs on the new hires.

2) For as lauded as he's been recruiting wise, I think he's terribly overrated. He needs to land a big class this year ( something that needs a lot of work to be done) to get the number of studs up, depth properly stacked, and make a ******* statement that this is our territory.

And 3) He needs a BIG TIME win in the bowl game. With our record we will most likely play a severely under talented team, comparatively speaking, and he needs to beat their *** to get number 2 going in motion. Style points absolutely matter. And the only way he can do that, is if he coaches aggressively and for 60 minutes.

All those things need to happen for me to be excited for next season, and I truly think all those things are interconnected. They are so monumental to the future of this team that to me is hanging by a thread. If he fvcks up in any one of those things, then he's just not a big time coach and next year and 2016 will amount to no ACC titles or big time bowl wins.

We'll know by signing day if Golden is a changed coach.

On a personal level Randy Shannon is just as good if not a better man than Al Golden from all reports.
On a professional level, Randy Shannon was arguably a better game day coach than Al Golden.
Randy Shannon always was and always will be a Miami Hurricane. He loved the city, the program, the school and the players that played for him. He never tried to steal off into the night to coach for another program.

So why would a school and a large portion of its fan base, run such a man out of town, yet cheer for what is essentially the white version of Randy Shannon, that has no loyalty to the school, to the program or the players?
