Can you believe that take? I mean it’s possible they might keep him on in some fundraising position but he’s done as AD. You should’ve seen the big boy box at the game on Saturday. It looked like a wake in there. And not an Irish wake either.

We are probably north of $100 million. As a private institution our costs are going to be high relative to the state universities. We are also a smaller, private athletic department comparable to most of the other private, division 1 athletic departments.

Yeah I’ve looked at this in the past. This is why we don’t have other programs like women’s softball, gymnastics, a small T&F team, etc, and others, that you see places like the University of Florida have.

There’s actually an accounting report that I’ve looked at that even breaks it down further. That actually comes from the University.

I have been referencing the need for this additional funding for a few weeks now.

It’s something that has been in the works for a while as you probably already know.

Even though we will never spend like the big boys, we can be successful in football and we can contend, it’ll take this type of money, add a much better coaching situation than we have now.

But we’re never going to have the armies of analysts, assistants, and support personnel that places like Alabama, Ohio State, and Georgia do. It’s just monetarily impossible for us.

Let’s just hope that they can actually raise this amount because it sounds aspirational, really aspiratational.

Putting in some perspective, both are two large state schools with double digit sports for men and women.
PS There are no private schools in the Revenue Expense Report.

There is no reason the university is not in the top 3rd in the conference in every sport it competes. The gals had a nice outting in Boston at Head of Charles. We have a nice facility on Indian Creek. Soccer is an embarrassment. No reason why you cannot build a good program. ACC soccer is very good and we have terrific weather. 14 full scholarships and a lot of these gals will qualify for academic stipends as we split out partials.

Yes, it is aggressive, but let's see if the big money is truly commitment to athletics. Not worried about the academic side. That comes from corporate money.

LoL, I told my son. Good thing you are Cane for Life. Sports programs will be good the second you graduate.

That's because privates do not release the reports publicly. You can guarantee Stanford, Notre Dame and Duke have large budgets. For instance, Stanford has 16 men's sports and 20 women's sports. You think tuition at Miami is high?

Yeah that lack of performance falls on Blake and not having a culture of accountability.

There is no reason we can’t do better than we are in the few sports that we do compete in.

Whatever money we spend, we’re not getting a return, that is for sure.

Edit: We seem to be doing OK in women’s track, and you really can’t blame us for performance in men’s track, we just don’t have the talent nor the numbers. But the rest of our other sports I’d say, meh.
 
Usually not an insider but I heard this was to cover Blake James’s new salary for when he replaces Frenk as President. TIFWIW.
 
I've been bashing ****lala for 20 years since she killed the athletic department (and Orange Bowl) budget. Being the BS politician she would smile and confess her love for UM Athletics. The truth is she killed the department BUT Blake has gotten a shift in the department budget ever since Dr. Frenk came to UM. It takes time as budgets are done 1-2 years in advance at a minimum and major shifts require more time. As a major UM donor this is what I received today. You can bash Blake James all you want but look at what's coming NOW:

I'm inclined to roll my eyes at initiatives with an overall bottomline that is 2.5x the school's current endowment.

That said, I really like this athletics wise for one main reason and that's the 2025 date. 3 years is a realllly short window to weasel out of this so we're either going to see some immediate results here or not and I'm inclined* to think Frenk wouldn't put his name behind that $225 mil figure unless he's relatively sure of it materializing/him allocating it.
