Evan Shirreffs Commits to UM

Some posters hate Golden and the admins so much they will trash anything they touch whether warranted or not. This kids tape is not bad AT ALL. The same people complaining about this commit are the same people who prob trashed Randy back in the day for not offering Ryan Williams out of Miramar or Rakeem Cato from Central.

Congratulate the kid and lets move on.

My untrained eye sees a kid with great footwork. Looks like he has the 3 and 5 drop step down to a science.. He also squares his shoulders very fast and does seem to be able to scan the field. That said his arm seems weak, not seeing the ball pop out. A bit of a wind up to get the ball deep. I would put that on the fact that he is skinny. He needs a redshirt for sure with a year of S&C. plus some speed drills on getting the ball out.

Holy SH*T. That's ****ing huge. This kid actually looks pretty decent. Smart as **** too. Ideal back up type kid for Kaaya. This is a very positive development if true.

Landing a kid with a grand total of two offers from Columbia and VMI qualifies as f***ing huge nowadays?

Unbelievable how far we've fallen...
Aaron rodgers had NO offers

Johnny Manziels mom pleaded with colleges to just LOOK at her sons tape ...coley has an excellent eye for quarterbacks so I have no doubt this at this very least a solid back up quarterback

Stop lying to people. Manziel had offers from Oregon, Houston and Texas A&M just to name 3.

Well Ken Dorsey wasn't considered anything but a good backup prospect for Kenny Kelly and thw same for Gino Toretta so I will give the kid time as injuries like a broken thumb are not career altering but alow a player to fly under the radar. We have to get lucky sometime.

Not sure why some still think Dorsey was some no name. He was a 4 star with an awesome highlight reel.

This is correct. Dorsey was a scrawny kid who no one expected would be ready to go as a Frosh but he was a 4 star with decent offers. He was not a no name kid.

Short memory syndrome on this board. LOL. We remember what we want to remember. First off, Ken came out in a year where there were like 8 "cant miss" stud QBs and most of them were from Cali. Kenny was not our first choice. In fact, we weren't his either. IIRC, he was committed to TENN and backed out because they had 4 QBs committed. (memory could be wrong on this) When we got him, there were no fireworks or parties being thrown. It was def a "Meh" pickup.

Obviously, he proved to be the best QB out of that class.

Again his HS coach says the kid had grown almost 6 inches the last 2 years. He didn't play as a Frosh or Soph and when he finally got his chance he broke his thumb after 4 games as a JR. So basically when most programs really evaluate and make their decisions and offers on QBs, this kid had basically no stats. He also doesn't seem to have gone to many camps, and he was from a small town and school to begin with.

But he kid appears to have blown up big time his Senior year. He does have all the makings of a "late bloomer" which Kaaya was also if people remember. There is decent precedent for " late bloomer" QBs that fly under the radar and end up being huge. Aaron Rodgers, Rothelisburger, Joe Flacco, Kaepernick, Romo, and a slew of other guys that peaked late in HS and went to nobody schools.

I am NOT saying this kid will be anything special. But the kid has all the tools. Honestly I see a kid who could become one of these sneaky Skinner type ACC QBs that we always wonder "how the **** did Wake or Duke" land or make this kid into a player and our Higer rated QB can't get **** done.

The kid is thin too. Looks like he can easily add 20 pounds or more of muscle with a real conditioning program. He supposedly runs a 4.7/40 so he has some wheels for a big QB.

I don't know. For a team that was left holding its **** on NSD at the QB spot and how hard it is to find a back up option late in the game. This kid is about as good of a back up 13th hour plan B as anyone could hope for.

This isn't about comparing this kid to other schools too QB prospects or elite 11 guys. This is about recognizing the sorry state the program is in and the reality that we would be going into Spring with Crow and Kaaya at QB with Rozier playing baseball. We needed a body at QB. This kids film, size, stats, and overall story make him a prospect with a LOT of potential upside, and a very realistic potential to at least be a serviceable back up QB for us, which every program needs and we would need backing up Kaaya and later Allison.

You guys are acting like this dude was in the Coley QB cocoon and only Folden knew what a special butterfly he would become. Everyone knew about him. And everyone passed.

You can keep scratching your heads looking for reasons why such a great prospect fell through the cracks, but don't make it seem like no-one knew who he was. He was MVP of the Florida/Georgia game.

****, even dopey *** fat Folden tried to get him as a walk on until yesterday. This is a guy who has absolutely no problem burning scholarships on total bums at the last minute, and even he didn't want to give this dude a scholarship until he was absolutely certain no-one else would come here.

He looks good in highlight tapes, but that's why they're called highlight tapes. He'd a big, smart kid, and his local school only wanted him as a walk on. Remember how electrifying RL3's highlight tape was?

RL3 tape sucked! This qb has the measureables but didn't have the offers. Either the coaches will hit or they won't. Georgia kids receive solid coaching. I'm glad we have another qb on the roster and he'll be given plenty of toutilege from an all american freshman qb.

Just thinking the same thing.. The Kid got lucky and received an Offer from The U!! Should he turn it down? Not his Fault that Golden & Co. screwed up and put all their eggs in one basket with Dwayne Lawson.. It just goes to show you how incompetent Golden & Co. are not to have a legitimate back up plan..

Maybe it's me, but it just seems that Golden has an ulterior motive.. Doesn't hold an end of year Press Conference, basically invisible during recruiting season, no changes to the Staff, and couldn't Hold on to The Most Important Recruits, with NO Back Up Plan for lost recruits..

I hate al just as much as anybody but it's not cool to trash the commit

Oh good, we now have another accomplished HS QB who is to be demeaned if he does not immediately depose the starter! But why wait? Go Canes!

Amazing FSU, OSU, USC are allowed to sign a stud quarterback every year. Someone should lift the debit blockers on our QB account and let Golden know it's permitted.

To be fair, FSU's projected starter next year only had one offer (Buffalo) before Coley found him.

Winston
Constentino
Francois
Henry

That's 4 straight classes of highly regarded quarterback recruits going into the program

Constentino may not have seized the job over Maguire but they're bringing in highly regarded guys every year

They have had like 4 or 5 10-win seasons, Bcs wins, a natty...

It's hard to stack chips when you average 7 wins a year

this is like 20/25 minutes from Athens. Did uga even want him as a walk on?

Yes. His HC said that UGA liked his tape and tried to convince him to walk on since he would have gotten a academic Scholie as a Frosh. They told him they were not going to be taking a QB this year but they wanted him to walk on.

His HS coach said that schools really didn't notice the kid til very late. Miami supposedly heard about him because of his performance in the All Star game and started looking into him. Several articles mentioned that he had planned on going Ivy League.

I get the sense that because he would get an academic scholie pretty much anywhere, some schools wanted to slip him in as a walk on Frosh (Plan B) kind of guy, and not having to use a scholie on him, at least not initially since they could get him in academically.

Had he not gotten injured and had a normal recruitment, strikes me as the kind of kid that would have ended up at a Mid Major, or maybe a place like Wake or Duke. That, or he would have been a second QB, plan B kind of kid for a bigger program if their main target fell through. Obviously not a cant miss elite kid, but lots of potential upside there.

Am not sure that's true. I don't particularly think Golden gives a **** anymore, but I think the issue was more than just not having a backup plan. They brought this kid in weeks ago for a visit, so obviously they were looking at other options. The program is a dumpster fire right now with a lame duck HC, so its not like there are going to be many hot prospects willing to jump on board late. From what I have read, they kept this kid waiting til the afternoon of NSD, so I get the sense that maybe they tried a few other options before offering him.

As for Golden's ulterior motive. I think that's fairly simple. He knows he's a dead man walking. He's going to go through the motion and do what he needs to do to fulfill the terms of his contract and keep getting paid, but its obvious he's done. He knows he's done. He's just going to go through the motions next year until he gets bought out.

UGA didn't take a quarterback in this class, but Richt and Schotty, the new OC, worked the kid and wanted him to walk-on. Sounds like he's also been coached on the side by Jim Donnan, the former UGA and Marshall coach. He's a former QB himself and also was a college QB coach and offensive coordinator. Again, hopefully this kid isn't need to see the field for 2-3 years and maybe my that time he'll fill out and develop.

His older brother, who he was stuck behind for 2 years in HS is a D-1 QB, and supposedly his dad played at UVa back in the 80s. So he's not a totally raw project.

Well a few ESPN people agree he is a good pick up for the Canes.... B9IeYE0CIAAR5_k.webp

Coley knws what he is doing.... he nabbed the best prospect in Kaaya since Dorsey for us, and he turned Ponder, EJ Manuel into 1st round picks.... just cause he aint a 5 star dnt mean he will do sh*t..... We got our QB of the Future committed in Jack Allison...
