ESPN's Miami Spring Wrap

Miami will take a step back this year. The Hurricanes go into the season with question marks at quarterback and continued questions on defense. Couple that with a difficult schedule -- featuring perhaps the most difficult crossover games in the ACC against Florida State, Louisville – and it will be tough for the Canes to match their nine-win total from last season.

I really dont think we can take a step back from what we saw last year. we have a healthier and hungrier team then last year. we were trying to find an identity last year and this year i think we know what we want.

you live in a fantasy world. we will take a step back this year, and thats scary considering we were AWFUL down the stretch last year.

the defense is completely broken and exposed. once they start giving up points in bunches and the pressure to score rides on teh back of a FR QB with no experience, it will get ugly

This is not the same team as last year. you people dont get it. all you think about is last year. this is a new team. we are way better this year. we are not returning garbage. if we are living off last year. then how is UNC who went 7-6 last year. yes freaking 7-6 ranked #15 in the pre-season top 25. you guys are not even looking at the whole picture. Our Qb situation is not as bad as you think it is. calm down dammit

Because they finished the season 6-1, not 2-4. That's not me being doom and gloom and negative, but perception is reality and they finished really strong and we didn't. The endings to both of our seasons are the last things people remember, including voters.

The team that finished 6-1 is not the same team that we will face this season. They lost their best players (Ebron, Renner and Hurst) and some other notables (Tre Boston (S), Tim Jackson (DT), Kareem Martin (DE) and Jabari Price (CB)).

Expect UNC to run the ball a lot with Logan and the QB (Williams).

there is absolutely no factual reason to think we'll be better. you WANT to believe that losing Highsmith and some other JAGS will make us significantly better but it wont. we've seen this movie already at least twice

the QB is a HUGE ? that frankly looks like a dumpster fire. it is more likely that the wheels come completely off and we have a 5-7 type season than it is likely that we win 10 games

Vegas will show that in the W/L over under. just wait

I'm going to take a shot at this, I'm not much of a homer, and i try and be as realistic as possible:

@ Louisville Lose
- They lost of playmakers, so I'm going to give this game a 50/50 situation at best. At worst I think we lose a close one, something like 27-24 UL
Florida A&M Win
- We win
Arkansas State Win
- We better win
@ Nebraska Win
- After looking at that roster, they have no running backs other then 3 freshmen, and they're breaking in a new starting QB, so I'll go with a Win here. The only thing that scare sme is the fact that their schedule is trash before they play us so they have time to prep, so that may tip the hate in their favour, but we also have had 3 games under our belt wiht a new QB.
Duke Win
- This is another toss up game, can go either way. They're bring as many returners as we are, so it's really a toos up. They get gashed running th eball and that'll be our specialty this year, is my guess.
@ Georgia Tech Win
- We win, we always beat this guys, Paul Johnson is a loser.
Cincinnati Win
- We win, they play in a garbage conference, and we'll be battle tested and have way more depth, speed and talent.
BYE
@Virginia Tech Loss
- This is the game I'm most confused about, have no idea whcih direction to go. It's after a bye so that SHOULD help us but we saw what Luoisville did, but that was against Teddy. I'll go out on a limb and say we Win, base don the fact that our defense will be stronger and they didn't have a QB better then Logan Thomas lats year. (Yes, I realize he torched us every year, remember every QB looked good vs. us, so I don't take that into account)
North Carolina Loss
- This is a battle much like vs. Duke. I'll say we Lose this one because were bound to lose one of this toss up games, can't be lucky all the time.
BYE
Florida Sate Loss
- We gotta take a shot at some point of the year, Loss
@ Virginia Win
- We win, this team has had alreayd lost a few games at this point in the season and we're not sure if Mike London will still be the coach at this point
Pitt Win
- With a new QB a full season on him, he's going to be prepared mentally, but they aren't going to have a better QB then Tom Savage last year (getting great reviews from NFL scout types)

I'm seeing an 8-4 season. I gave us a lose to VTech, UNC, Louisville and FSU.
The wins are vs. Florida A & M, Ark. St., Nebraska, Duke, Gtech, Cinci, UVA and Pitt.
If we get on a streak fro Florida A & M to Cinci, we might be hard to beat vs. Vtech.
The UNC game can be interchanged with Duke, we win one of them lose the other.

I'm not happy with the record but I'm not upset by it, tough schedule, and loses vs. quality opponents, as long as it is within reason.

Very good point! I just think that the finish to their season, compared to ours, will lead to a more favorable outlook to the up coming season than to ours. But you're right, they should be a completely different team without their best players.

10-2, 9-3 is what should happen due to teams losing a lot of talent, honestly we should be 11-1 with who we have on the team and the other teams loses

Makes sense.

Injuries and attrition are part of the game but during our first 7 games we started 7-0 (as opposed to their 2-5). We lose a key player after FSU, we finish 2-3. Our team is a completely different team with our best player as well (Duke Johnson).

Thanks man. Weird that he isn't on the school's official roster. Either way, I still think we got 'em.
Duke is better, and Nebraska plays the same defense as us, so that should give us an advantage.

I agree with you 100% there!! The season ends completely different if Duke stays healthy!!

Taking a step back is not even an option for this regime at this point. So let me ask you this for folks who say we take a step back...What the heck do you think is going to happen the year after next when basically Duke, Chick, Denzel, Flowers, Felaciano, maybe Howard, and Pierre are all gone? The DT rotation still wont be that great. We will lose our best LB and DE. And we lose our two best lineman. So basically we are conceding the next 2 years???

I say we go 10-4 this year with losses to UL (too early in the season to expect Olsen or Kaaya to win this one), FSUx2 (will be close but not ready yet), and one random team. (Either NEB or Vtech) I say we win the rest including the bowl game. Contrary to what most think here we do have alot of talent on this roster. Once we are at full strength in August..we will really see whats what. Cant judge this team off that Spring game BS.

And lets make this clear..Al Golden cannot afford to go 7-5 this year and then turnaround the next year and go 7-5/8-4 again.

Part in Bold: Some of those players will be replaced with current players or future players.

Outflow: Duke
Inflow: Yearby
2014+: Gray, Williams and Croncrite

Outflow: Perryman
Inflow: Kirby/Blue
2014+: Perry

Outflow: Felicano (G) and Flowers (T)
Inflow: Gall, Darling, Isadora, Knighton, McDermott and Gadbois
2014+: Brown and Feder

Outflow: Howard
Inflow: Burns, Elder and Mayes

Outflow: Pierre
Inflow: Wyche, Heutelou, Moton and Jenkins
2014+: Johnson and Fines

Outflow: Chick (has he done anything recently)
Inflow: Kamalu, AQM and Harris
2014+: Patchan

Players will need to be developed, players will need to be replaced. 7-5 and 8-4 is unacceptable. We cannot go backwards, we must get better.

We cannot concede the next 2 years or any years. We must continue to cycle our ABCs

A. Recruit players,
B. Develop players, and
C. Win games

Keep recruiting, keep developing and keep winning. If we cannot, please leave and bring in someone who can.

People seem to be ignoring that we have something along many positions that we did not have last year or the last few years....depth. The past couple of years we had some excellent players, mostly adequate starters, a few terrible starters, and no quality depth whatsoever behind any of them. This year, while we don't have great depth, we do have some quality depth behind the starters. We actually have more than 2-3 linebackers who can be expected to contribute. We actually have multiple quality DEs. We actually have safeties vs. last year where because of Bush's injury and lack of personnel we had two starting safeties that were worse than the backup safeties we have this year. The doom and gloom is ridiculous. We should be overall a better team.

this might be the worst argument that I've ever seen on here outside of irg.

you are basically saying that F.A.G. wont go 7-5 cus he "cant afford" to? LOLOLOLOL

he should be fired this year after going 7-5. that will be teh best thing for the program

8-9 wins. Moving Perryman to MLB improves our defense big time. Last season it seemed like every dive play went for 4 yds. Result was 3rd and shorts, 1st down after 1st down and our defense constantly on the field. I think Perryman takes control of that crap and gets our O back on the field.

It's a depressing thought, but welcome to reality.

Our starting QB will have not played one down of college football before this season. NOT ONE DOWN. True freshman QBs are typically horrific, so don't count on Kaaya to be the savior. And our redshirt freshman has shown absolutely nothing. Olsen will need to make a 180 degree change in order to be the QB we need to have a 10-win season.

If we had a dominant defense that we could rely on for the first half of the season then I would have a different view. But our defense needs to improve dramatically to even reach mediocrity.

A bad defense and an inexperienced QB is an awful combination.

Recycling this worthless argument? Really? Posters have similarly attacked the pre-season prognosticators for the last few years, and then we have proven that our team is middling ACC ****show.
