ESPN Power Ranking blurb on the game...

"anyone who watched the game"

Guess what, rankings committee probably isnt going to choose to watch miami vs a mid major. They wont watch every game of every team, they will look at scores. We needed to beat them by 30+, we didn't, it looks like we are (yet again) fake because we squeeze by mid major teams instead of blowing them out like the big boys.

Mark Richt and his amateur band stay disappointing. You guys are going to complain several weeks from now when we are 8 and 1 and ranked behind some people with 2 or more losses. This is exactly why.

I hear what you are trying to say but this in not 1945 where Poll voters listen to the radio for scores and look at box scores the next morning.

With social media these days you can get instant updates on teams and highlights. People all over the place were mentioning Perry and how the Canes looked better.

As long as we win we will move on up in the polls as we did today.

The ACC is looking like the worst conference in country by a large margin. BC just lost to purdue, VT just lost to Old ******* Dominion. We will only move up from this point forward due to losses in front of us. We can win out, including clemson, and the commentary is going to be look how over rated clemson was. f

We look weak. Richt is not a competitive enough coach for the modern era, in this conference. Guy has no savage in him. The perception (and the reality) is that the ACC is a weak conference. There are 5 power 5 conferences and 4 playoff spots. We cannot slide by the FIUs of the world and expect to get in, even if we win out.

Clemson has been to three straight playoffs including two Championship games.

If they are in the top Five when we play them no one is going to say they are overrated.
You are making up fake news here.

"Survived." I love it. Our third stringers got scored on late in the 4th, but we eaked by...

Wins are the most important thing in the CFB season, followed closely by how you win. It matters in the polls, to recruits, to the media, and can have effects on a program’s perception for long after the game.

Example, from ESPN:

ESPN Week 4 Power Rankings

Getting a lot of game experience for the many freshmen is far more important in the long term for this team, than the difference in poll results if we beat FIU 50-0 vs. 31-17.

You're kidding yourself. They do this literally every year, and they've already started with Clemson this year. ESPN this morning had a reporter say they weren't even in the top 5 because their "QB situation is unsettled".

When some of those true freshmen that got valuable game experience when we already wrapped up the game against FIU come in and have big plays later in the season to help us win games, that will be far more important than some committee member looking back at the box score of a game in September. By later in the season injuries begin to pile up. Having the youngsters ready to go matters more than worrying about cosmetics early in the season.

Agreed. However, we have to be looking at the whole picture, and I hope Richt is doing so (...and Manny).

Getting back to the top is a **** of a steep climb, and honestly we are still probably 3-4 years out. You gotta lay the groundwork and keep at it.

Ranking the conferences by current CFP potential

"If Miami's only loss is to LSU and the Tigers continue to be a contender in the SEC West, the Canes could have a shot. Their schedule strength would be called into question, though. Right now, BC and Virginia Tech are their only regular-season ranked opponents. Saturday's losses in the ACC could have a long-lasting impact on the entire league."

The FIU game doesn’t matter. We barely beat UNC last year and were still #2 in the country because we beat down ND. Performance in big games matters more than anything.

Playoff contention is a pipe dream at the moment but to get to the playoffs we need good performances against BC, FSU, VT.

It’ll work itself out. I don’t see us going 11-1 so not really a big deal.

Getting tape of the young players early on is more important than stomping Butch Davis. Every team is going to have injuries and there is only so much you can see in practice. Even though FIU got some cheap scores at the end, 10 players might have been doing the right thing and the last players was Robert Knowles. At least you'll know who should see the field when we get to ACC play and need the depth.

Also, the other thing that really cost us was special teams- again. Rick was Richt yesterday for putting in Perry, but he's back to Rick today because I haven't heard any news yet of him firing Hartley from special teams. It's not just the terrible punter. The players looked like they have never seen an onside kick before, we had a kick return called back because of bad blocking (then lost our best WR because of it), and the punting, was as always, a sh#tshow. In the LSU game, the Tigers basically started on the 50 every series. I'm not saying that is the only reason we lost, but it doesn't help the team when the special teams unit consistently gives the opponent good field position. We had the same problems last year. I would expect a coach making several million dollars a year to fix this problem quickly and Rick has not.

Everyone forgot about the close games last year after we thumped VT and ND.

This game wasn't even close.
If the committee does what Mullens says it does (on College Game Day) with the tech and info available and IF our name is being tossed about towards season's end they'll take a closer look at the game.

All this being said, let's just see where we sit around Thanksgiving.

Yeah let’s run it up and risk injury to our elite players, so that if someone gets hurt you can come on here and tell us “how dumb Richt is for leaving in Dallas or someone else when we’re up 31-0.”

Your beef should be with the 2s and 3s when they got in the game there was a drop off in intensity level. They didn’t play like starved dogs looking to use their reps to get more playing time. This is a great teaching moment for Richt and his staff. If you are Lingard,Burns, Davis, Pope, etc when you come in the game you should be all over the Oline to keep pushing hard and playing as hard as you can to show coaches you are ready. Same thing goes for our Defensive players. This was good for a Guy like Fierson to take some lumps on tape so the coaches can show him what he needs to work on since this was not a controlled envoirment.
