ESPN on Ed Reed

My favorite player of all time. ******* legend in multiple ways and not sure we'll ever have the honor of seeing someone like him.

Still remember him posted up on that corner bench in Memorial like he'd sat there for 60-70 years every morning.

It is a unique thing; seeing formations and knowing exactly where to go. Ted Hendricks was the same way. Dennis Rodman could tell you the spot where the rebound was going to be when it left the shooters hand.

Makes you wonder: what do they see that I can't?

Top 3 safety all time, and a good argument could be made for #1.

Ed. M'******'. Reed.

Great post. Agree with every single word. I was on the same floor of MRC with him my freshman year. Was a really really neat time to be a student at The U. He is, and I think always will be, my favorite football player of all time at any position. Unfortunately, I never got to know him personally. I hear he is as exceptional of a human being as he was a football player.

Fantastic Rodman comparison! Ed is to the safety position what Rodman was to rebounding for sure.

I can't find it anymore, but someone's gotta post that interview clip with Joe Buck where he talked about cleaning up the locker room. That summed Ed up to a T!

Every so often the Good Lord says let me send this one with all the gifts and see what he does with what I gave him.
There have been many others with his gifts but chose not to go down the road less traveled they choose the easy path instead.

Ed Reed a treasure that's always open for others to access but few do because of the road less traveled is not easy to follow him and they fade away.

Like the rich man asked what can I do to be saved ,give up everything and follow me and be greater then the stars , the rich man turn and walked away from greatness.

To think him and Sean Taylor were on the same college football team...along with Antrel Rolle, Phillip Buchanon, and Kelly Jennings.

Jennings wasn't on the 01 team when Sean and Ed played.

I’m not from South Florida, but Maurice Sikes is the best player I ever faced in high school.

We played the second game of a home and home against Monsignor Pace in Miami in ‘98. We lost the previous years game because they had a running back ( think his name was Frank Garcia) that ran for over 200 yards on us with their counter- trap run game.

We were determined to shut it down and had a great gameplan. We would stop on first and second down. But on 3rd and long they would just drop back and throw a 50 yard bomb to Sykes. Our best corner got kicked of the team and we had a bunch of sophomores in the secondary. They had ZERO SHOT at covering Mo Sikes.

Dude had like 150 yards and 3 touchdowns. That was just on offense.

He was a TERROR in the secondary.

I broke a 10 or 15 yarder and was about to hit the sideline. Sikes was on me like LIGHTENING. Couldn’t juke or nothing, so I tried to drop the hat on him. Usually when I did that, I would run through the defender and get 3-6 more yards. Sikes got the leverage on me and stopped me dead in my tracks. I’m only 5’8” so I NEVER let guys do that, but this guy was special. Drove my feet and pushed him back maybe a yard. He just scooped me up and put me on my back.

Mo Sikes was strong as ****. Pretty much beat us by his got **** self.
