ESPN- midseason Grades for first year head coaches

Mario has made mistakes, it’s pretty obvious. But it blows my mind how many people on here just want to ignore how much our guys mess up because that destroys the 110% corch narrative.
no one is ignoring that but its bc of the scheme of the coaches that we struggled early on offensively and basically had our QB looking like he forgot how to play.

I mean its a midseason grade. it would be incomplete if they said final grade no? through half the year this is what their grade is lol.

You might be right, but then again, you might also be proving my greater point... a midseason grade for a 1st year HC is about as pointless and worthless as can be. Midseason anything is worthless, but it's especially worthless when the HC hasn't even had the benefit of a single full recruiting cycle.

its click bait - I agree. its just fodder for the website to justify their ESPN plus sub price. to that end, it worked. we have a thread on here about it

Gotta be honest I'm not thrilled with the record but and I hate to say it, seeing the ****show that FSU was to how much better they are now, keeps me from overacting to Mario.
Granted they may not win another game, but they've looked "better" this year.

While I’m still holding out hope that Mario will turn out to be “the guy”, I have to say that giving him a D+ is being very, very generous. D+ is a passing grade and he clearly deserves a failing grade (E) so far this season. While I think we all agree that Manny was not capable of turning things around, I’m pretty sure if he were the coach this year, we would have a 3-3 record at the worst, and likely a 4-2. record. Gotta call it like it is.
A D+ is a passing grade ? 🧐

I can’t wrap my mind around it, honestly.

And that’s recognizing we suck, and have sucked for a long time. But looking at results from their other games this season, **** is beyond crazy. How could it go down like that?’

Even if they had the best MTSU team ever and were demolishing the rest of their schedule, an L would be suspect. But this MTSU team??

I don‘t care about the coach, personnel, weather, wet bulb phase, whatever….I’ll never understand.

We didn't just lose... we were convincingly whipped on both sides of the ball.

I would give his *** an F so far. The University of Miami does not get their *** whooped at home by MTSU. However, I do think he is the guy to get us back to who we were 20 years ago. I have faith.

Agreed. If the team was 3-3 but the coaches had the right scheme all along.....i could live with that. Making pretty obvious errors and taking forever to START to correct those errors is what I have a problem with.

I respectfully disagree. I do agree that Mario hasn’t done himself any favors and he may even have a failing grade right now but I am pretty sure that Manny wouldn’t have done any better this year record wise then Mario.

Think about this logically, Mannys defense was WAY worse and most of the best players on defense have been the transfers on the Dline. Remember how bad the depth on the d line was when Mario got here and how hard he hit the portal? I think Manny may have added a guy or 2 at the most but he also would have been starting Chantz Williams with Jabari Ishmael rotating in. We wouldn’t have had Nyjaleek Kelly because if Manny stayed HC, Kelly was gone. We would have been so thin on the 2 deep for the whole d line that a few injuries here and there and we might have had to put Hedley out there. Also without Mario we don’t land Wesley B.

Now to the offense, I don’t really know how to predict this side of the ball. Lashlee left for the HC gig at SMU and took some offensive assistants with him. Transfers don’t have as big of an impact on this side of the ball so with that and not knowing the off coord and scheme we will call this a draw. Even though they lost TVDs 2 biggest weapons from last year. In the fairness of this argument we would assume the same injuries happened and Citizen went to Florida because he wouldn’t come to Miami to play for Manny. I feel the offense would have regressed but without quantifiable data we will call it a wash.

With the defense being worse we would have lost to VT and probably Southern Miss as well. We probably wouldn’t have lost to MTSU because I blame that loss on the current coaching staff. I think Manny would be 2-4 right now just like last season.

Mario and staff have definitely underperformed and have not earned their salaries so far but let’s see how the rest of the season plays out. If we can close out 5-1 and beat FSPOO then he will get a C+or maybe B- if they start to dominate and win the bowl game. Then bring in a top 7 class and I feel he will get this juggernaut rolling again. Think about the quality of the recruits and transfers he brought in since he got here. If him and Zo can have a better hit rate on their evaluations and then develop the players we will start to make a run.

It didn’t mention how many dropped passes missed tackles fumbles interceptions and missed field goals Mario had.
Throughout the course of a game there will be dropped passes, missed tackles, fumbles, interceptions etc. A player or two having these issues every now and again is a part of the game. HOWEVER, when multiple players from multiple position groups consistently have multiple issues, then that absolutely points to bad coaching/improper teaching of technique. Those issues fall on the position coaches, which in turn falls onto the coordinators, which ultimately reflects on the head man in charge. If you're head of the sales department at a company and you have a couple of employees who routinely miss sales targets/goals then you institute a performance improvement plan to help remedy their issues. If they continue to miss the mark then you will end up replacing those workers with better, more qualified candidates who can meet goals. But, if the entire sales department routinely misses monthly, quarterly, even annual goals, then the higher ups will most definitely replace the head of sales before cleaning out the entire department. So yes, multiple miscues over multiple games falls back in Mario. Singling out players is ignoring a much larger issue at hand.
