ESPN Baton Rouge radio doesn’t expect Charlie Weis Jr to coach Fiesta Bowl

This situation is being handled so poorly by everyone involved, but what can you expect from Lane?

Makes me think the players are going to be INSANELY motivated to go win this game, but it would be so much to overcome from the players to win a semifinal with 7 days to prepare without an offensive coaching staff
That first half they will be playing with emotion but… we do us and carry on with our business, we will be fine. I’d expect to see lots of Lightfoot and Blount in this game to give intentional rest to our monsters up front. We might have to dig deep into the linebacker rotation as well.

I don't believe for a second they don't coach in the game. It's free advertising for Lane to let Ole Miss keep going since he built it, and what he can sell to kids to come to LSU. He'd be dumb to force them to leave now.
Or would it be a slap to Lane’s ego - Ole Miss proving they can win the natty without him, so he’s going to pull the plug

I think Lane is petty enough he wanted (and thought) they’d lose to UGA…now he’s pulling the rug out

I don't think Kiffin's ego will allow Ole Miss to play for a National Title.

He thought Georgia would dump them out. Now he's having to take matters into his own hands - he'll hide behind the Transfer Portal and needing his coaching staff around to host recruits.

Well Miami is going to prevent that from happening regardless

The calendar is just all messed up in CFB right now, IMO. I really dislike all these coaching moves going on in the middle of playoff runs, but with National Signing Day where it is now, and the portal opening up during the playoffs it’s hard to really blame the coaches. I just think it does a huge disservice to the sport, the fans, and the players who’ve worked their tail off all year.
The calendar is screwed up, no doubt. College football needs to adapt a model similar to the NFL. In the league, you can’t speak to other teams coaches until their season is over. Should be the same in college football. The transfer portal should not occur until after spring. Same for recruiting in my opinion. I know so many players are early entries now, but too bad. Move spring practice or eliminate altogether and replace with coach-led OTAs just like the NFL. Move it to the summer. Players can register for summer courses and participate with their new teams. All teams have the same limitation, so no one will have an advantage over another.

I’ve thought about this as well but as a counter point, what is it’s a success tax that brings parity. Similar to the NFL draft where the lowest performing teams get first crack at the most valuable talent.
The NFL draft is a different animal. Each team gets one selection in order, and teams can package and trade picks.

The NFL has a defined free agency period and all NFL teams have the same opportunity to sign available free agents, depending on their salary cap status.

CFB needs to seriously reevaluate the calendar. Start by moving spring practice to coach-led OTAs in the summer. Then move the transfer portal window and high school signing day to the end of spring, before OTAs. Players who want to start early can simply enroll in the summer session at their school and participate.

Any resistance of this type of thing is simply resisting change for own sake.

The lawyers are about to get going here soon.

I’m thinking sankey gets involved here since ole miss has a chance to win a ring. The sec comes first I would think

Lane is a ****head for this... but... should we as canes fans be mad at this? Cause I'm not. It's their problem. More problems for them means... well... you know.

CANES WIN
People calling him a ****head or hoe don’t see it from LSU POV.. if you allow the coaches to coach there and Miss is saying that they are tampering, why would you continue to let them coach? Especially since you actually need coaches for the recruiting visits if you plan on getting 30 plus portal players. Ole Miss gotta be thankful they got the coaches for now and use it as a recruiting tool saying they won 2 games with part time coaches and a new head coach lmao.

No. They are a rival and any Ole Miss success could affect LSU recruiting.

They are their conference rivals competing for the same recruits. ... especially with the portal open.

Ole Miss can use an extra week in the portal because of playoffs.. LSU cannot.

Kiffin is under no obligation to help them.
Kiffin is paid every bonus he would have received had he remained at Ole Miss during the CFP. Therefore he does benefit from them winning.

This was agreed upon by LSU before he moved.
