ESPN article Richt could be gone if loss to UF

I have a strong suspicion -- and a related bad feeling in my stomach -- that Richt ends up being on the shortlist.

Ranked eighth and with everything to prove against Alabama earlier this season, Georgia failed miserably. At home, the Bulldogs watched as Nick Saban’s squad jumped around and danced on their field before kickoff. And they did nothing about it. When the game started and Alabama delivered the first punch, they immediately rolled over and played dead.

But more troubling than the 38-10 loss was the reaction in the locker room afterward. If anyone was upset, there wasn’t any sign of it. Richt was placid in his postgame comments and players looked more resigned than frustrated. Championship-caliber teams would have been upset and determined to come back stronger. But there was none of that from Georgia, which turned around the following week and blew a 21-point lead to lose to unranked Tennessee.

Where’s the fight? Where’s the resolve to win big games and national titles? After a decade of falling short, you’d think the Bulldogs would want to try something different, play with an edge and maybe prove the doubters wrong.

But in a weak East, they haven’t capitalized. Instead, they’ve let Florida rise from the ashes. Now the Gators, who looked wholly inept under Will Muschamp, have taken the lead once again under first-year coach Jim McElwain. Now Richt is in danger of dropping to an unforgivable 5-10 versus UF.

thats all i needed to read...

To be fair to Richt, Georgia only has GT in state but Bama, Auburn, Clemson, Sc, Tennessee, Uf and FSU all recruit the state heavily and are within 5 hours or less from Atlanta. Many of those schools fish is Georgia's pond because their local talent isn't deep. Some of the southern GA talent (Thomasville, Valdosta for example) are much closer to the FSU and UF campuses. This exists in other parts of the state, Ga is literally recruited from all sides due to locations and population base of many of the surrounding states.

However, I do believe that Richt has underachieved somewhat.

Love Richt. He'd kill it down here

But he can't kill it in the second most talent rich state in the country with only a triple option team to compete with in-state?

I'm not even a fan of Richt, but lets be honest. His competition every Saturday is several notches above ours. So those 9-3 years in the SEC could very well be 11-1 years in the ACC.

yea, I would put high school talent in Texas and California ahead of high school talent in Georgia but other than that, I agree that he wouldn't be able to win a national championship down here. Win the coastal on a fairly consistent basis, probably...

Don't want another job opening that we would have to compete with. Let's hope for a win. We are the second best job, I'd like to keep it that way

I would be more concerned with the UGA job coming open. That moves us down to #3 on the food chain. #4 in some people eyes behind USCe

He either looks like a genuis or not this weekend vs gatas.... they are starting the kid out of Dwyer Bauta for the very first time

Richt is not the answer. Ga is running the most bland, khaki pants football program you can imagine. Even Spurrier has joked about the annual early season pot suspensions that Ga has every year.

Might be a tough wish to grant. Mark doesn't do so well vs the Gators. I think he is like 5-8 vs them. Couple of those W's are off of Muschamp.
