eSECpn's Way Too Early Top 25

Was actually pretty good.

my thoughts

- Alabama doesn't look like Alabama based on what I saw in the spring game. Dude were wide open everywhere on D and there CBs aren't good.. they had digg a wr as their CB.. their DL and LB is okay but not like who they usually look.. Alabama is doing a lot more blizing because they can't generate pressure like they use to.
- FSU gonna disappoint.. They have no Oline. No Cook.
- first poll I've seen where LSu wasn't in the top 10.. their QB play is trash.
- Miami at 15 I like it. Not to high not to low. Ranked higher then WVU.
- Auburn and Michigan should switch..

That's right--no Cook--two 5 star rb's have taken his place..

This team reminds me of UF and LSU the last couple years. Very good talent. Very good defenses. Potential **** show at QB. I hope one of these guys is better than Appleby/DelRio and Harris/Ettling.

Don't take much away from that spring game bro! Trust me Mincah Fitzpatrick (all American CB) & Tony Brown are elite. Can't really assume Saban won't develop DB talent !

I think that might be the first time I've negged you. Not for content but for planting the nightmare seed in my mind of the possibility of having to watch a UiF QB situation here. I'm breaking out in cold sweats already. Thanks.

If kaaya came back we would have been preseason top 10, probably like 8 or something

We are top ten if we actually had a qb on campus who could make all the throws .

We will by the end of this month.
People keep saying that and I hope it's true. I'm very excited about Perry's potential and I don't equate him talent wise with Weldon. That said tons of people were saying that Weldon could make a showing in the spring because he's been raised on football, has the family lineage and smarts from a quarterback perspective and he was totally lost in the spring. As good as Perry may be, it's at best a 50-50 situation based off of history at the position in college football with incoming freshmen, no matter how talented they are.

Whether it's fair or not, these preseason polls matter. The media voters for the AP look at these types of things to determine where to slot their votes. We all know it's easier if you start the season in the top 25 than if you're on the outside looking in. Voters tend to only drop teams if they lose (unless they're SEC teams, then they don't drop) so starting in the 15-16 range is a big positive.

Preseason polls mattered in the past with the BCS system but I don't think they're very important now with the playoff system.

Not as much with the playoff system but remember the committee bases their strength of schedule values on playing ranked teams. They're going to value a win over #15 AP team over an unranked opponent ten times out of ten. While finishing highly in the polls doesn't guarantee a playoff spot. I certainly helps.

I've been saying this since Kayak decided to forego his senior year. We could have a potentially dominating defense with a solid line, good run game and explosive WR's.

We're LSU circa 2011-present.

Right there with you regarding being able to absorb the things he's going to need to half successful.Dont know what they are able to give him before he hits campus but I sure hope he's already into the playbook.

I'm trying to avoid thinking about these sorts of things and drinking the kool aid, at least until we figure out the QB problem.

At this way too early point at least, there doesnt appear to be a dominant team that you can rest assured will be in the playoffs. Alabama lost a lot of talent and has no QB play, OSU is talented but again no QB play, FSU wasnt that great last year and lost some key players, Clemson lost key players, Penn St. has no QB play, OkSU should not be in the top 10, etc etc

Not so sure the results this season would be all that different even with Kaaya. He proved over 3 years that he wasn't a winner or a guy who was capable of raising the level of the guys around him. He wasn't a guy who was responsible for any big wins in 3 years. He played well in a few losses over the years, but, at the end of the day, they were still losses.

Kaaya looked like a 9 or 10 win ceiling kind of guy due to his limitations and his inability to come up big and win tough games.

Our season will hinge on whether or not we can get serviceable QB play. If QB play is weak, we could be in for a long season.

the doom and gloom about the qb position is made up and overblown, do we have a qb that can lead us to big time championships and national championship respect, not proven... but we have QBs that know how to play QB enough to do what Kaaya has done the last 3 years so we arent starting from some abyss of hopelessness like all the dramatics on this board is making it seem like.
