Diaz system requires the safeties to think like LBs so bribing a guy that knows your system is smart. The intensity for th CBs will come from Rumph.
 
Im not going to lie...our secondary coaches inexperience is extremely worrisome. Hopefully it works out; if not, Richt has got to correct the problem before it gets out of hand. I trust Richt though...so lets give my homie Panda a shot.

The positive about hiring Panda is that Safety play in Diaz's system is pretty complex and Panda knows exactly what Diaz needs from his Safeties.

Aside from Dorito, all three of those guys actually coached college before. We just hired two interns and expect them, plus a guy who was run out of Texas for epic failure defenses, to get us back to Miami football? LMFAO good luck.

When we are trashed next year, let's see how you squirm out of it. My guess is Dorito will get the blame for a year.

We'll see how it works out. The one thing I like about this is he knows Diaz's defense, so there's a sense of integration on the staff, and not some random guys cobbled together.

We have an experienced DL coach that wants his guys to "meet at the QB," a DC who will likely be coaching LBs himself, and a Safety coach who knows how to teach the DC's defense.

We'll have to wait and see how it works.

It's really not weird at all. Richt has hired Diaz to the HC of the defense because Richt will be neck deep in calling plays and coaching QBs. He's letting Diaz pick his own guy at a very significant position in Diaz's defense.

I completely get the need to bring someone familiar with your scheme.

And from looking at the Miss State coaching staff for this year, the coaching split is the same as he had there ... DL coach, CB coach, and safeties coach. Diaz doubles as DC and LB coach.

Devils advocate, he has been coaching the secondary for a while and exclusively with Miss State, albeit without a big title.

Could've done better. At least Rumph and Banda are only focusing on one unit a piece

Their secondary also led the nation in fewest 20+ passing plays for whatever that's worth

Agree. Richt is putting a lot of faith in Diaz. Could work, or it could fail spectacularly.
 
He went with grey beards at DL/OL and seems to be sprinkling in younger guys. Might be his recruiters.

I get that but why not go after a guy like Deshea Townsend then? He helped coached DBs under Ray Horton so even though he only coached CBs the past few seasons he's got more experience coaching Safeties.

I'm sure Tony Hughes would have been the first hire for Diaz but he obviously took the job at Jackson State.

Agreed. He's never been a recruiter so I feel the Rumph hire was made to teach the technique of the CB position and to recruit. Banda was brought in to teach the scheme and make sure players learn the playbook.

Exactly. Great coaches all have their start somewhere. He's received good reviews at Texas and Miss St. in defenses that have produced. However, the inexperience is certainly a bit worrisome.

We'll see how it goes in the long run. I'm actually good with the Rumph hire. He played at high level in college and was subpar in the pros - those seem to be the types that work out. Ever since he got to AH, he's been gold. Coaching corners seem to be the next step for him.
