Ephraim Banda

Not excited about this hire. Probably some truth to Pete's post about the assistant coaching staff getting $3mil. Banda probably doesn't cost much. Still, you have to start somewhere I guess.

LOLOLOLOL an absolutely miserable hire again. It's obvious Diaz doesn't want any real coaches running his secondary who dare to challenge him when he gets roasted by every passing offense he faces. Aside from Coach Kool our new Defensive staff is no more experienced or qualified as the old one. Truly pathetic job here by Richt allowing Diaz to hire amateurs.

It's a safeties coach. Honestly, go drink laundry detergent

Someone tell me about him?

Banda worked with Diaz at Texas and last year, at Mississippi State. He was a three-year defensive graduate assistant for the Longhorns (2012-14) and was a defensive quality control assistant for the Bulldogs last year, working wtih defensive backs.

Banda has a unique backstory. Seven years after graduating high school in 2000 — after making his living as a bartender — he walked on at fledgling Incarnate Word as a safety in 2007. He was reportedly one of the oldest players in college football. A knee injury ended his college career in 2010 — when he was 29. He was known by some teammates as “Grandpa.”

He began as a student coach after that. This is his first collegiate coaching position, which gives him something in common with new UM cornerbacks coach Mike Rumph, who accepted a position Monday.

Banda’s group of returning safeties includes seniors-to-be Rayshawn Jenkins and Jamal Carter, sophomore Jaquan Johnson and redshirt freshman Robert Knowles. Three-star recruit Cedrick Wright is UM’s safety commit.

So the solution to everyone's concern about Diaz's scheme needing elite DB coaches is hire two guys who have never coached on the college level before.

When, not if, we get roasted next year, I don't want to hear a single complaint about our players or the old coaches. This is the staff now. Dig your heels in and defend it. But it is a terrible, terrible defensive staff outside of Kool.

Ya'll have been sying this about EVERY hire. "Oh it's not important it's just Safeties". At some point you need more than one legit coachon your defensive staff. We don't have that.
