After years of having to fight for everything we ever had, here are few things we now have access to:

Positive Media Coverage: Almost every news outlet has a positive spin to the benefit of the UM football program.

Poll Rankings: We will have the benefit of higher rankings even though we don’t yet deserve it because the people that are voting want to see Coach Richt succeed.

Recruiting: We will be given the benefit of the doubt to take kids that may have a troubled background more so now than in the past because people believe Richt can make a difference in that kids life.

Positive Atmosphere: Barring another scandal. Richt has an opportunity to install his new offense and Diaz’s new defense without being reminded about some local sports guy not liking what he’s doing over here at UM every five minutes.

All of these things had a negative impact on the coaches of our most recent past.

Having the right coach makes a big difference. You can be a good coach but if you don’t get positive media coverage from the start you are fighting a losing battle. And I don’t see any of the coaches that applied for the head coaching job at Miami getting this much positive media coverage.

He’s the kind of coach that has the image that carries a lot of weight. It changes a ranking in the polls that would have otherwise been lower just because he’s a likeable guy and is accepted.

We will get an opportunity to make the playoffs and compete for a national title when in years past we would have had to go undefeated.

MAN, IT REALLY FEELS GOOD TO BE A MIAMI HURRICANE!!!

It's only a matter of time before uncle luke starts *****ing that we didn't offer every single kid on 8th street.

Careful in thinking or caring that the positive media coverage will last. That script will flip to "Is the Miami football culture beyond the control of EVEN Mark Richt..." at the first sign of anything even remotely negative. The cake is baked regarding national perception of us. Embrace it and don't ever trust the media to ever treat us fairly let alone positively over a sustained period of time.

The ONLY reason the national media has taken a break from sh**ing all over Miami is that they've been a bad team for a while now. Nobody really cares about some 7 win, middle of the ACC team. You better believe that if Richt does get this program back on top, it's only a short matter of time before the heart warming "Rich makes right at his alma mater" stories get tossed aside for the "Miami back to their criminal ways" stories.

Press ain't "nobody's" friend. We just need to win and recruit. All that **** will take care of itself. This ain't the 80's and not even the press can bring back the negativity of the new kid on the block kicking Notre Dame's ***.

Yep and I'm not even trying to detract from the OP's optimism but you're right. Once we start rolling you better believe that Mark Richt's penchant for giving second chances to kids will NOW be a national story while said media hacks will completely gloss over his same penchant for booting kids immediately once they violate his trust.

LOTS of truth in this post!

Nah, I disagree. Richt is a different type of leader.

We should respect the media but we should not be afraid of the media because we have a HC that's has a big enough personality to handle the media. I think we should embrace it and enjoy it now. For example, though our basketball teams both male and female haven't had as much success as our football team we still can see the affects of having a coach that is accepted by the media. Coach L the HC of our basketball team gives us the perfect example of how this will play out if we win. Coach L was with us during our probationary period and he still has been able to recruit. The respect that he gained while coaching at George Mason has opened up doors for UM's Basketball program that no other coach was able to do. Although our guys have done a great job over the past seasons through hard work and winning but there is no denying Coach Larranaga's respect across the NCAA has helped his teams in the rankings and media perceptions. These are the things I think our football team will continue to benefit from with Richt.

Truth. Some schools get a pass because they seem like "good" programs with "good" players. Us? Not so much. Hopefully we can get back to winning everything and telling them to f**k off.

The media was fellating Golden right up until the second he got fired. And that bulbous **** stain Tim Reynolds will be out in the streets shaking his **** as soon as Richt drops his first game. It might be sooner than that if he catches wind of Golden, due to the larger size of NFL players having his TE's run through a car wash of flaccid ****s as opposed to the ***** gauntlet he trotted out while at UM.
