Elite programs simply do not hire first year coaches

No program has hired a 1st year coach from it's own staff after finishing 1 game above .500. When the team is that bad, problem goes deeper than just HC. I think Dabo took over a 9 win Clemson team so they weren't even that terrible.

Elite programs don’t desperately pay Temple a buyout to hire a HC with zero head coaching experience and then watch Temple finish with a better season record.

Clemson - Dabo Swinney
Florida State when they won a championship - Jimbo Fisher

Miami should not do this, not because its not foolish, but because they do not have anyone like that on staff.

Lets clean this up a bit.
Jimbo- named head coach in waiting under bobby bowden after his first year, good recruiter.
Riley- Picked by bob stoops to run the offense and led them to the playoffs in his first year
Ryan Day- OC under urban meyer and also interim HC for a time before eventually being named head coach

Manny Diaz- Mark richts coordinator for a couple years. Had a couple good defenses.

tx for cleaning up something that a) needed no cleaning up and b) no one with any sense felt needed cleaning up

how about that mack brown saw and rightly fired manure as a dc and manure's outstanding defenses got carved up by coaches who were at worst semi-competent?

manure never had it even as a dc

Elite programs are elite because they invest in their football program. This team won inspire of administration, but college football has changed dramatically and requires investments we were never going to make because football has always been a nuisance at Miami.
