Wouldn't be the first time. Kylan Robinson was from Alaksa (big slow RB we tried to convert to a LB).

Didn’t we try to tell ourselves that he would complement Shawnberry (sp?) McNeal well?

His HS qb commit is the biggest draw. But also JKS didn’t transfer once and is on track to contend for the #1 pick in 2028. Much better chance Woodard doesn’t even play with him bc he’ll be a true FR
… Cal has one of better QB development histories over last 2 decades tbh. Across multiple coaches now, and all out of HS (or JuCo for Rodgers) and not exactly the highest rated…
So there’s Jared Goff, then there’s….

Davis Webb?
Kevin Riley?
Nate Longshore?
A whole bunch of other scrubs, then Fernando Mendoza who was really developed at Indiana.

If you want to expand it out to 25-30 years, you can include Rodgers and Kyle Boller.

marshawn Lynch and desean jackson
I was listing QBs only in my reply to homie who thinks Cal is Mt Olympus for QB development.

The major problem here on this message board right now is we have nothing to really talk about. Mario is such a great recruiter that our class is pretty much done and locked in before July and it's become boring. Lol
"Problem" might be a little strong, but your larger point is 100% accurate. We have about 2 months of tolerating bad dad jokes and sophomoric sexual innuendo from dummies like me on this bored board, then it's on like Donkey Kong.

Jj arrington and marshawn lynch but your point still stands
My list was the QBs (sort of) worth mentioning over the last 20 years who played at Cal. It was in response to this post:

I made the list because Cal has had one elite QB over that time and one more (Mendoza) who transferred out then became "great" at Indiana. I don't think that makes tham all that special at QB development. Go ahead and pick at Goff not being elite all you want, but he's certainly been a good QB. The others have pretty much been somewhere between mediocre and stank. Then, as another poster pointed out, there's the whole concept that the coaching staff has rolled over in Berkeley several times, so what are we even doing here other than counting down the days until we play meaningful football.

I withdraw my post, please continue cooking lol

Jared Goff 1st overall pick, Davis Webb 3rd round pick, Mendoza 100% was identified and developed at Cal, lol. There is a reason people here wanted him as portal qb over Beck. And he was absolutely receiving draft hype. Would he have been #1 or even a 1st? Idk maybe maybe not. But drafted pretty high? Yes. And now they have JKS. So yeah, I’d say pretty good. And Aaron Rodgers is one of the like 3-5 greatest QBs of all time too…

I gave Jared his roses.

Davis Webb sucked. He's working against your argument.

Mendoza was slightly above average at Cal. He's also taken zero NFL snaps. Too many variables so he is TBD.

You ignored all the other names I listed and forgot to thank me for leaving off the more obscure names that actually sucked.

Aaron Rodgers was from over 20 years ago. I think he is a major D-bag, but I'm not dumb enough to not say he's a first ballot HoF.

To summarize, over the last 20 years, Cal has had one very good/elite QB (Goff) drafted, one dud (Webb) drafted, and one transfer out to Indiana who went #1 overall. The rest have sucked. To compare, in that same time frame, Miami also had a QB get drafted #1 overall (Cam), one get drafted in the third round like Webb (Beck), a 7th rounder (Kaaya) and no one transfer out and do great elsewhere. Based on the "look where he was drafted" logic, I could make the argument that Miami has done as well or better than Cal during those same 20 years, which sounds stupid on the surface, but is it?

And over the last 22years they’ve had a HOFer, 2 1st overall picks (3 total), another Day 2 pick, and are likely about to add at least 1 more day 2 pick or better in JKS - all within 25 years? Out of HS…. How many programs have been better?

And over the last 21 yrs (nice cutoff at 22 to exclude Rodgers!) they’ve had a HOFer, 2 1st overall picks (3 total 1sts), another Day 2 pick, and are likely about to add at least 1 more day 2 pick or better in JKS - all within 25 years? That they identify and developed out of HS…. How many programs have been on that level? The list isn’t long

I expected this from you. First it was 20 years. Now it's 22. Mendoza is a Cal QB when it works in your favor. Is it two #1 overall picks or 3? Cuz I count one - Goff. Rodgers was #24 and Mendoza was drafted as a QB from Indiana. Last I checked Russell Wilson (Mr. Unlimited) played for several years at NC State before transferring for one year to Wisconsin and he seems to always be introduced as "Russell Wilson, Wisconsin" unless he's doing one of his weird things. I don't actually think our QB development and results have been as good as Cal's over the last 20 years, but I used it to show how dumb your rationale is. Goff and Rodgers are elite. The rest suck. 2 elite QBs over 22 years is good, not epic.

I have a job and I'm working today. I don't have time to play with you today. Take your moving goalposts and find someone else who has the day off. I have a couple exes who did that stretching of the truth and moving of the goalposts stuff, therefore I've reached my lifetime saturation point of feminine arguing. Have a nice day and bless your heart.

TrumpyCane wants to know if you're giving Washington State #1 overall pick in Ward or Miami?

Not sure how Cal gets credit for Mendoza, he wasn't even above average there, he's not going anywhere near #1 if he stayed there
