Right and we don’t want to just grab 1 WR in a cycle. It will create imbalance in the room. The calculus there is a bit different with the portal these days, otherwise this would be a need.
 
So he's weighing playing for an elite team vs staying home and playing for emerging ones. (Both Cal and UCLA are recruiting well and will improve). This is what Mario was selling local kids just a few years ago. Would be understandable if he decided to stay home but I obviously hope he comes here

The biggest draw to Cal is JKS but in the portal era it’s probably 50/50 he is still there when Woodard gets to campus
 
I’d love to get Eli and I think a second receiver should be added. But this may be a position we evaluate senior breakout type because of all the young talent we have.

I sort of agree. Our current WR group looks very deep with quality guys. However, it's likely that a couple hit the portal after this season. That would leave us with 8 WRs on the roster (current 10 - Barkate - 2 portal + Lennear). Most teams carry 10+.

But, as you say, there are usually guys that emerge as HS Seniors. If we don't get Woodard, I imagine that will be the plan. And we'll also have a better idea of who in the current group might leave.

I wouldn't laugh. It's a mixture of a confidence thing and a common sense thing. At cal he walks in to possibly a starting spot but definitely heavy rotation. Here, he's not gaurenteed to EVER see the field the way our room is currently built and the trajectory we have moving forward. From what I hear, still likely he comes to us as of Thursday. But I wouldn't at all blame the kid for looking big picture and going that route instead.

Should it be any different? Do we not attempt the same things with dade county kids and get upset like they aren't human if they go elsewhere?
 
People keep saying that taking 1 wr in the class is not smart. I don't get it. We brought in like 6 WRs this past year and If the 1 dude we bring in now is Nick... I'm happy. Back to back to back to back classes of Mali, Wingo, Nick, and Wright..... SHEEEEEEETTTTTTT

Go on 247 and look at the WR hauls that Saban brought in when they had the best unit in the country. Some years without even 1.
