Eli Acker OT

What depth? Walker can come in and play next year. This ecker dude and the tackle from tennesse are going to need time to add weight, strength, and develop their technique. Guys like walker and rivers are a must.
Where did it become popular belief that freshmen offensive linemen are expected to come in starting at upper echelon power 5 schools? If there is any position group that needs time to develop its oline. If u get one that’s capable of playing at a high level that’s wonderful but most need at least 1 sometimes 2 years to get fully acclimated.

Play =/= start. If Zion is as advertised then Scaife and him will be our OTs next year.

Since it started happening. There is a difference between being ready as a sophmore opposed to as a rs jr. We need a couple of guys who are ready to get reps right now as the talent and depth on the o-line is very bad.

Not true. Uga starting LT is a jr now but came in and started at RT as a freshmen. Alabama starting RT got time as a backup as a freshmen and was the starter as a sophmore. Leatherwood was a backup as a freshmen and started at guard as a sophmore. Clemson starting LT this upcoming season is a true sophmore.

All these players were highly rated out of hs. Its not taking those guys 3 or 4 years to get on the field.
You proved the point. Highly rated guys, yes they can come in and contribute or start early, but look at the schools you just named being associated. Wisconsin never makes huge recruiting headlines, but always have one of the better OL out there.

We need a way to get the talent we need and it’s clear with the top guys we are at a disadvantage because of bags. Develop guys like Zion, Washington and Acker and others will start noticing it.

You missing the point. The issue isn't with developing those guys. The issue came when guys saying walker is just a luxury because we have those linemen who will likely need 3 years before they are ready.

We might not be able to load up on elite talent right now but getting players like walker and rivers and then adding a few developmental guys is the best route to take.

You don't have the time at miami to do what wisconsin does. This fanbase is expecting wins and to eventually compete in the playoffs.

This o-line is already questionable and lacking talent and depth. Adding just projects and hoping they turn out to be good years from now isn't how you flip the room.

well you didn't mention Walker in your post, so it would be hard not to miss that point.

And the point should be that if your OL was up to standard, freshmen starting would be a rarity.

I think is point is that OL coming in ready to go is more the exception rather than the rule. All those you mentioned were highly rated playing for Bama and Clemson between other highly rated and more experienced lineman. And Leatherman as you mention was worked into the rotation as a freshmen. The only ones we have a shot for that fits that description is Walker (Rivers maybe but he may need more development and worked into rotation slowly).

We have to avoid the worst case. That's being left again with our ****s in our hand on signing day if Walker does go else where. If that's the case, we have bit the bullet and go the Wisconsin route. If us fans have to temper our expectations than we have to temper our expectations.

If we go that route Washington may be a nice prospect but it's not enough. These no guarantee he develops as hoped. We'd improve our changes with numbers. And I'm talking about legit LT prospects. No Jags, no guys that project better at guards (we don't seem to have the same problem bringing in guards).

I doubt this young man leaves the state of Mississippi. If he spurned Ole Miss after being committed for so long, it would be hard for him to return home to live in Mississippi. Un like south Florida those rednecks have a long memory for those who not only leave the state but also jilt the home team in doing so. **** his grand parents are season ticket holders as well as live in Oxford, MS and his older sister attends Ole Miss.

UM and coach Barry seem to bed falling for Acker's I am open to other schools pitch. Where as ND didn't despite Acker flyring up to south bend on his own dime..

I am thinking with Ole Miss adding 2 additional tackles to the 2020 class that Acker is looking around to send a subtle reminder that if their looking so is he, considering he was their 1st 2020 commit.

The kid has a few obvious ties to Ole Miss. The only way I see him going elsewhere is if he gets pushed out or gets upset about the amount of other tackles they bring in.

It doesn’t hurt to kick the tires on athletic tackles. I’ve always said over-recruit tackles every year and only recruit a handful of elite interior guys bc the tackles that fail can kick inside but you can’t fail at tackle and be successful.

IDK if they are falling for it. Kid did come down for Paradise on his own nickel so it doesn't hurt to pursue it. Let's see if he ultimately visits. They are still on Cayden Baker too and Ivins just said he thinks Baker is the more realistic target. Both are good.

And on the subject of OL, per TOS, Baker and Butch Barry have been hard on Sedrick Van Pran, 4 star OG out of LA. He included Miami in his top 10 and says he has good relationship with both - we are recruiting him for center. Has already taken 2 OVs to Texas A&M and OU. Not announcing until Jan at the All Star game.

UGA has all the cbs for this kid. He says no leaders.

If we are recruiting another center, does that mean smith is an OG ... or at risk of being processed out?

I doubt he loses his spot kid has been a very vocal recruiter as it would be a bad look for the staff and if we are going after that kid I would think he is fighting Dennis for that spot

Dont think he is being recruited as a Center. He likely is being looked at as a guard.
