Do any of these recruits and their families take into account the quality of education they would receive at UM?? They are guaranteed nothing as a football player. Seems extremely short sighted too me.

Name one kid from inner city Miami that cares about education. Miami is/was known for NFLU and that is why they go SEC as they put kids in the NFL at the highest rate.

Depends on where they sign and what's their major... If they are a liberal arts major then there isn't much emphasis placed on education from the get go... Then again if it was totally education then we might lose recruits to Stanford and Harvard then hard pressed to get fight off the likes of UVA, VT, Duke, Syracuse, GT, BC, etc. The U is a great school but it's not like it's Harvard... I graduated in 06 and the school with the hardest admission requirements in the state was New College in Sarasota, followed by UF... Most of classmates just opted for the state schools because they were cheaper and equal in quality...

Too be honest the Florida's state universities as a whole have a lot to offer... Now if you're into biology or any science majors leading up to a career in the medical field UM is right there but the again how many football players are here for that?

Do you factor in work environment or image of a company before choosing the job with the highest salary? Most kids are the first in their family to attend college so just having the opportunity is enough.

And to your main point, I doubt our football players are scholars in the classroom with aggressive majors. How advanced is a communications degree from UM in comparison to Louisville? We're not talking about aggressive majors.

When 90% of these kids say "Education is important"... what they really mean is "Education is important, because I want to do as little as possible in order to remain in school while I play football."

People are always baffled when a recruit says "Education" and then picks an LSU, Ark, WVU, etc over UM.

Education is important. It's important because they want to get into school and they want to remain there.

Jesus Christ people Miami isn't the place to go if a kid wants an education at a BCS school. We are closer to Clemson than we are Notre Dame, the rankings prove it. We are on par with UF, OSU, UT, and UGA. We are not in the class of UNC, Mich, USC, or UCLA, and not even close to Vandy/Duke/Cal/ND/Stanford.

Google US news and world report, it's all there. Big time football players either go to school to make the NFL, or if they care about academics, go to the place that will give them the best degree. Right now Miami does neither.

If you want to get elite recruits, it is much easier to find a good coach and pay him, than to magically transform the university into something it isn't.

Actually UM is a Top 40's academic institution and number 1 in florida., where as UF, UGA, UT, and OSU can't say that. UM is ranked 48th in the nation per us news. The other schools are not even close to UM in rankings

lol
Every school is different. Every program is different. Every kid is different.
Chad Thomas wants to go to UM's for it's Music program first, football second.
Lots of factors play into a kids choice of schools. Education for some carries greater weight than others.

Have you been paying attention to UNC's situation lately regarding academics? LOL at comparing Miami to the initial group of schools.

Good education takes time and effort. Good football take time and effort. Throw in some college fun and is there really time for all three.

Are we talking academics, or academics for athletes? They are very different things. UNC athletes are nowhere near the average student at UNC. Same for everywhere else.

Education is all relative. You can get a good education wherever you go, it's up to the student. For example, who gets the better education. Student A who goes to Miami, focuses, has numerous internships, etc. or Student B who goes to Harvard on daddy's money and parties for 4 years? Obviously Student A.

But lets cut to the chase though, not many of these schools give a **** about education even the academic heavyweights. Shaw has gotten Stanford to bend a little on academic requirements for players lately. UNC is widely regarded as one of the top schools in the country and look at the scandal they have going on there. Same with a place like Michigan which is considered a public Ivy.

In today's day and age alot of kids understand its not guaranteed to make it to the NFL so they develop a back up plan and make "business decisions" which i respect. but in the state of miami education really doesnt matter at all. one thing to take noticed is all the High school transfers just to play football at a respectable program to gain exposure to go to college. Its clear that kids dont care about education and just football in the state of miami

(Ignoring Miami and speaking in general)

The majority don't take this into consideration seriously. I am sure more kids worry about making it to the next level than they do about their education.

Not sure about the stat but 1.7% of college players play professionally (See Below) and I am also not sure if professionally includes arena and CFL leagues.

I am sure the percentage of NCAA BCS players who play in the NFL is incredibly low as well.
