Ed Reed's Role at the U - "Get as many Miami guys, FL Athletes as we can"

He has no authority and no responsibility. Other than that, it seems like a vital role in the program.
Any chance that Reed has exactly the role that he wants at UM?
I can answer that question. 100% chance that Reed is doing exactly what he wants. He doesn't need the money, fame, recognition or anything else in his life. Reed is calling his own shots which we should all be so lucky as to do.
Reed has taken a role for no reason other than his love for UM. He is a great, great, man.

No one will deny that Ed Reed is 'Canes Royalty. We've had great safeties here, and the fact is that he stands alone (half a step above Bennie Blades, imo), as the greatest Safety we've ever had, and arguably the greatest safety to ever play in the NFL is amazing. Not bad for a 3 star from Louisiana, eh?

Honestly, I'm glad he has a part-time job. If it doesn't work out, it's a lot easier to dismiss a glorified consultant than a full time member of the staff. How the **** are you going to fire Ed Reed?

He's a glorified mascot offered up by Blake and Manny to appease the fanbase last off-season. If I recall correctly, some inside the program wanted to hire Highsmith but that would've (rightfully) undermined the authority of the two bozos in charge.

So they railroaded the move. Now instead of a man with real power in the program and personnel/NFL front office experience, we ended up with a mascot dancing around on the sideline with a cigar in his mouth like a 1920's comic.

Not a single poster here hates Ed Reed. They hate that he was used by our admin as a distraction.
This. Highsmith would have kicked *** and taken names. Reed was a ‘hey remember’ type of hire to sign autographs with children while posters on this board yanked one another about how every recruit is going to want to be advised by the golf playing Reed.

****, why is everybody trashing Ed, especially when we have a whole bunch of defensive guys who we hired with really no coaching experience. Some of the other posts are really whacking him.
DVD no experience , Banda was a bartender, Rumph was a high school coach, Simpson was high school coach (a really good one) the first time we hired him, Patke is not that great, Blake Baker isn’t great. Ed did coach almost a whole season for the Jets and the best safety of modern era. Beside Diaz TRob is our most experienced coach.
DVD may turn out to be good, but you gotta know Ed Reed had a lot to do with getting our Five star safety.
