“If I’d have stayed in Baltimore I’d still be playing today,” Reed said. “I know so. I had everything going the right way. I had my doctor, training, everything.

Interesting to read about how much Reed wanted to be a mentor to younger players.

"Reed said he was recruited to Houston with a pitch to be a respected veteran voice. However, when he tried to set that example he was met with blow back from the staff."

And they had that old school mentality. You had coaches talking reckless to guys and I’m like, ‘As a grown man, how do you let that happen?’ Plus as a coach you’re not going to get everything out of that man that you want because you’re talking to him reckless. I was surrounded by a bunch of guys just coming to work. It was a job. It wasn’t football any more and for me that was draining.”
Wow, that's some indictment of the Houston franchise right there.

"“You actually brought me in, recruited me, and asked me to tell you the things that I’m telling you,” Reed said. “And when I started saying that stuff, they shrugged me off. It was like, ‘Nah, that’s not how we do it.’ So I was lied to. I’m too old to be lied to and I’m too old to play these games with people who say you’ve got to play the game to get higher. I’m not playing the game. I ain’t got time for that."

This is what stuck out to me are important to Hurricane football. Ed is not going to get played by Blake and Manny. This is his home not theirs and he will have it his way or it will get nasty. No way in **** more than a couple fans will take their side over Ed Reed's -- Blake and Manny don't have that many family members.

Ed Reed was as cerebral a FS as you’ll ever find but eventually the body stops responding with the same efficiency. Reed hit that wall after he left Baltimore. He should have retired after the SB win.

@nystateofmind, what makes you think that. Details please. You already did your homework on this one. Ignore my post.;)

Ed Reed was absolutely done in 2013.

He was PFF’s #72 ranked safety.

His last good year was 2011.

Stop with this insanity.
I don’t like to hear Ed talking this sort of jibberish about still being in the league 7 years after he was washed.

Doesn’t exactly inspire confidence in me that his messages are based in reality. There’s confidence and puffing a little. Then there’s saying completely outlandish ****.

Ed’s the goat but I don’t think he is completely innocent.

Ed had that hip injury and waited until after signing his deal to get the surgery. I’m with the hustle but Houston probably was ready to return him using the Lemon Law.

good ol PFF grades lol does PFF know what the play calls are? do they know if 1 of the other 10 players ****ed up so E20 had to try to compensate for that, thus lowering his score? PFF grades are so dumb. unless PFF has the play call, and no one has that, except the houston astros and patriots.

No one was interested in him after he got cut except for his former DC with the Ravens.

What does that tell you?

Exactly. Ed isn't a punk and I still laugh at those who said it was a PR stunt. Saying he wouldn't really play an important role. Ed ain't no **** PR stunt, he won't be punked liked that.

I agree...There are things I worry about with the Reed hire. Our ex-players tend to like to spout off about everything...**** like "we need to bring that swag back"-- like that solves every problem in the world.

Obviously there are some things to like too about the hire...And Reed isn't your everyday, average, ex player. Let's hope he knows what he knows a defers when he doesn't. Obviously it could help with recruiting.
