Ed Reed COS?

you arent hiring reed and look up strouds duties from last year. itll likley be similar to that

You aren’t either and can’t make that call. I’ve hired CEOs, CFOs, COOs and CNOs. Again - it isn’t hard to tailor duties to a specialized skill set. JDs can be amended.

How does it help PR to fail again?
It's a temporary but huge PR win for Blake. Manny and Blake need to defuse fan anger over the refusal to hire Zo to oversee things and do the job Blake can't do. Keeping the position, making it mostly powerless and hiring a beloved former Cane great to occupy will quiet down the fans long enough to get them to renew their season tickets. Next year Blake will just come up with another scheme to drum up excitement and the chinstrap bro fans will eat it up. Next year is our year, bro.

I want Ed in the house but I would like him on the field. Get him home and he will find his way. Man just has to win.

Still trying to figure why any UM fan wouldn’t be drooling at the possibility of having one of the smartest football players in the history of the game around our coaches and players every day.

12 pages of back and forth on “fake job” and “appeasing the fans.” Who gives a ****? You ain’t paying him, and he’s a football savant and a recent enough NFL legend that recruits and their families would melt in his presence. What exactly is the downside?

No clue. Fans have proven they will complain about anything. Just a toxic miserable bunch who want to transfer their own neurotic insecure self-hatred onto their "beloved" program.

Right! I'm reading the comments like wtf. MFs should be excited about having him in the bldg, no matter the position.

from a PR/marketing/recruiting/development standpoint?? you bet. it's a home run.

we just don't know what he's going to be asked to do. if it's more managerial? that's something else entirely. and one wonders if the issues flake and manure had with alonzo would be the same they would have with reed. i.e., someone who carries a lot of goodwill and has the ears of the fan base, would be looking over their shoulder.

exactly this. plus, all of the "wasted in an off-field role" complaints don't address the glaring issue that he only has a season as an assistant db coach under his belt under ryan, and wasn't kept by mcdermott. reed is a football savant, but savants have a level of natural talent and instinct that can't be taught. management/mentorship might be a better for him and us.

If you can't see that this is a PR stunt to smooth over fallout from the Highsmith debacle then I'm not sure what to tell you. Highsmith actually had experience in an NFL front office. Yes, Reed is the GOAT. We love him. But what are his credentials to run a football program? They are effectively hiring him to be a mascot.

you think he´d come here to sit behind a desk? what's wrong with you people that fail to use logic, reasonableness and common sense?

Do you know what 'if' means?

COS is a desk job. Doesn't mean it won't become just a title and he'd have another role. Hence, my first sentence.

Have a beer and relax.

How has an entirely unsubstantiated tweet by some nobody that sounds as incredulous as can be generated 12 pages of posts?

FWIW, I have recently hired a COS and it has been a game changer for my department. If structured properly, this could be a very good thing.

COS, what is his role?? What will he be doing for the program?? And I think this is a way of moving him up the food chain eventually..

No one here knows what issues arose in the Highsmith talks. We can speculate that Alonzo was looking for a GM type role, and that would fit his current place in life. He’s a 55 year old man with NFL front office experience.

Ed Reed is none of that. A problem I see with our fans is that they see one occurrence and then try to parallel every subsequent event to that initial event. They did the same thing with Tate and King. Tate didn’t pan out, so we shouldn’t be excited about King.

Ed Reed is a football savant. He wants to be involved in coaching and mentoring and loves this program. Why the fck would UM fans care what role he would have? Any exposure to Ed Reed and his knowledge of the game, film study ability and winning attitude would be beneficial.

So you don’t think a legend like Ed, who is renowned for his film study and work habits and would be someone that recruits’ parents would be in awe of and who might later transition into coaching DBs, could be of ANY real benefit to the program? None?

UM is just going to plunk down $250K or so to Ed just to appease CIS?

Who the **** cares? What is the opportunity cost? What is the downside?

If you don't think Ed Reed has value as a Miami staffer for both recruiting and improving the culture/practice of player development then I'm not sure what to tell you. He's been on championship teams at the college and NFL level. Of all the Miami alumni he's the single most qualified individual for building effective work habits within the program - film study, practice habits, leadership, off-field balance, etc. What Miami needs more than anything is to have a locker room full of players that hold eachother accountable and lead.

Does Reed have a more established resume of evaluation skills than Highsmith? No, but the coaches and recruiting staff can manage that aspect on their own like almost every other program does and has done for as long as CFB has existed. Ed Reed will not be the GM of Miami but I couldn't think of a better candidate to fill a traditional Chief of Staff role and impact the program.

My fear, is that if/when **** goes sideways in the future they will drag him out like a Macy's Thanksgiving float, put him in front of a camera, and have him make excuses for everything while feeding the fanbase memberberries. I think that they think we wont be so toxic if a Cane legend is the one spouting nonsense about the state of the program.

Our fan base is so beat up and full of defeatists. Sit around racking what’s left of their brains to find a potential negative outcome in every possible scenario.

How you all are finding reasons to ***** and complain about Ed ******* Reed potentially joining The U in any official capacity amazes me, even though it shouldn’t.
