Jaylan Knighton, the guy who go almost all the carries in the second half of last year (when we couldn’t run the ball) averaged 3.4.Parrish and Franklin led the team in carries against Southern Miss and averaged 4.6 and 4.8 yards per carry respectively. We ran the ball perfectly well in this game.
we've seen Garcia against two really horrific teams lol. come on now.I was actually thinking this yesterday. In this offense you can’t overthink and lock in on one player and side of the field like he was able to do last year..
I think TVD will start to look better.. but last game was really concerning.. made me realize Lashlee offense masked some of his inabilities.
Garcia is a gamer, who believes he can make any throw and to any player.. not much thinking.. just going out there and doing it..
Bro relax the passing concepts have been basic and the run game has been the most called plays. I’m hoping they just wanted to win by just being bigger and better than the 1st 2 teams and they will open it up against A&M I also read TVD say that, I paraphrased of course. Idk if it will be a night and day difference but they should ply betterI was actually thinking this yesterday. This.I want an OC who maximizes our players & puts guys in good positions to succeed. This offense does neither of those things for the personnel we have. That will soon be seen unless be changes things.
No, I'm staying, but the rest of you can goYou might as well log off for good then. I’m sure none of your 14k posts included your opinions, which are obviously meaningless if you dont Get a vote. That seems like a lot of meaningless posts for someone so opposed to them
Agreed, but how does the transition happen? If you don't do it all at once and suffer the growing pains, how do you do it? Say we have a great RB room next year but our OL is still...average. Do we try to be run heavy or wait for a better line? I'm just saying, there are a lot of moving pieces, and if you don't say "this is who we are and what we do", the day never comes when you've got the perfect personnel. Nobody wants to see Kaaya pretending like he might run the ball, but sometimes you have to get everybody practicing what you want while you recruit the guys you need.This.
It’s not that I want our offense to just pass the ball every down and abandon the run. I want our offense to play to the strength of our players. I understand that Mario and Gattis want to be more run heavy and I totally agree that a balanced offense is the best offense but we just don’t have the personnel to run that type of offense right now. Forcing our current offensive players to play in a system that doesn’t maximize their best talents is no different than Mark D’Onofrio forcing our players to play a two gap, 3-4 defense. Yes that can work if you have the players for it but just because that’s what you prefer, doesn’t mean it’s going to work with every roster.
Square pegs, round holes.
Touché …do you think the results are being passed on to Mario and staff?I actually had a vote... It's up top.. I picked option #2.....![]()

I don't think we'll see the offense be as different as people want. That said, I think the staff saw the first two games as a chance to go practice how they would like things to go. I think that's the amount of running they'd like to do, and they gave players a chance to practice against other teams. My hope is that Gattis will make changes as the games unfold, but I think there will be a lot of disappointment when it turns out he wasn't kidding about what he wanted to do. He's not trying to fool you guys, he really wants to be run first.Bro relax the passing concepts have been basic and the run game has been the most called plays. Okay, so they were keeping it basic, but yet TVD looked like he was struggling, in what would be defined as a simplistic version of the playbook. All the while he continued to lock in on one side of the field, against a southern miss, and I shouldn’t have questions and concerns? I agree w this. its not a secret playbook. gattis is who he is. he was pretty unsuccessful at Michigan till his final season there. id like to see us space things out and pick up the pace (again we dont need to be Rhett in terms of pace) but gotta be quicker than what we saw esp if we want TVD to succeed. again, well see what happens this week. there is no more hiding stuff or going vanilla. make or break time with a beatable atm teamI don't think we'll see the offense be as different as people want. I agree with you here’s to hoping they adjust when A@Ms front holds them to 2.5 yards a carryI don't think we'll see the offense be as different as people want. thats scary when you type that out. I kinda said the same yesterday. we can't do the basic passing game well right now but somehow were gonna be perfectly in tune with a more complex scheme on Saturday against a MUCH better team (be honest, we played two teams that are worse than anyone we played last year outside of central Connecticut).Okay, so they were keeping it basic, but yet TVD looked like he was struggling, in what would be defined as a simplistic version of the playbook. every offseason change leads to the same saving the playbook lolLots of people lying to themselves in this thread.
I mean easy concepts allow DBs easy reads on the route combos I’m not crowning the guy just giving an idea of why. I mean Joe Burrow stunk up the field yesterday too. But it looks to me that TVD hasn’t been in rhythm with all the running. Here’s to hoping he turns it on on saturdayOkay, so they were keeping it basic, but yet TVD looked like he was struggling, in what would be defined as a simplistic version of the playbook. I’m the biggest kool aid drinker in the world pre season until I see it for my own eyes. If we run the same stuff vs A&M that we did vs Southern Miss we are going to get blown out. Simple as that.every offseason change leads to the same saving the playbook lol
There are ways to transition without sacrificing today for the sake of tomorrow. Let’s just use the example that say we have talent at running back but our line is still average. There’s ways to run the ball that don’t require you to line up and play in a phone booth. One of the easiest ways to give your backs space is to spread the field. Force defenses to allocate defenders away from the middle of the field and use a numbers advantage. The top 6 rushing offenses in the P5 last year were Arkansas, Baylor, Tennessee, UCLA and Ole Miss. None of them have overpowering offensive lines. All besides Baylor run spread systems. Arkansas and Tennessee run straight up Air Raid systems and UCLA and Ole Miss are both no huddle, spread offenses. You can run the ball very well without having to line up with two tight ends in bunch formations.Agreed, but how does the transition happen? If you don't do it all at once and suffer the growing pains, how do you do it? Say we have a great RB room next year but our OL is still...average. I'm a big fan of the idea that you play to player strengths more than make players play a scheme they aren't cut out for, but I also see the difficulty of not establishing an identity. In the end, I think you go with what you want to establish and tweak as needed to allow guys to succeed. Hopefully, Gattis won't insist on running all game if it becomes clear it isn't working. Time will tell.
