Early thoughts on Gattis?

Where do you stand?

  • I'm satisfied with his scheme and play-calling and approve of his job performance.

  • Sample size is too small, I'll reserve judgement until we play some quality opponents.

  • I wish we had hired someone else.

I think some of our fans will complain no matter what. I for one like being able to run the ball consistently. I dont know if people forgot, or maybe they are not old enough to remember, but we were at our best back in the days when we could run the ball consistently with backs like Portis, Willis, and Gore.

As far as the passing game, Gattis can only call the plays. Their were receivers open that TVD just did not see. He was off and he said as much, so why all the Gattis hate?

I love the power running game we are trying to establish culture wise. Its how we won in 2001 by gashing teams and wearing them out. What I don't like is we haven't really tested the air against teams we should have.

I think tvd needed more reps personally, but hey we have ran over the first two teams. Might be boring and frustrating but it's a dumb thing to complain about
2001 though isnt 2022 if thats the offense we see (again its early but we know what gattis ran at Michigan and what Mario supposedly prefers). what you did in 2015 isnt gonna work in 2022 for that matter. fisher is finding out the hard way right now

I guess you are incapable of realizing we were 111th in rushing yards last year for a reason and it’s not a strength of this line or offense…oh and we have the best qb we’ve had in probably 20 years. So being a run heavy, ball control offense makes all the sense in the world right?
What doesn't make sense is nobody here understands they don't get a vote. I definitely don't think run-first is going to work well for us, but I don't get a vote. I don't have confidence that new coaching can make this a competent run-blocking OL, but I don't get a vote. I think our strength is TVD so we should do what he does well, but I don't get a vote.

The thing is though, I know I don't get a vote and I don't care. I'm not a f*cking football coach, and I'm smart enough to know it. I just want to see wins, so if the guys getting paid can do that with a boring as f*ck offense, then have at it. And if it doesn't work, I'm smart enough to know I'm not the answer. Are you?

its not hate. its also knowing that we dont have home run hitters like we did with those 3 back there and if were doing this against better teams, the results may not be there. its diff if we had those backs and that ol lol. but again, were allowed to worry if you think you see some warning signs. at the end, we all want to win.

I get what youre saying and we all know none of us get a vote, but then why join a message board? this is a bad take for a place where youre allowed to discuss things.

Other than CCSU those are weak numbers that contributed to us having the worst run game in the ACC. Bottom line is its way too early to make any judgements on this offense, and definitely too early for all of the whining and hand-wringing. Until we're well into the season, the very 1st season of the new offense, we don't have a sufficient sample size. We played a very conservative game against USM.
Those are weak numbers against P5 opponents? You do realize we only had 177 yards against Southern Miss right?

We are all drawing conclusions based on very little data so far. The good thing is, in less than a week TAMU will prove all of us either right or wrong.

My reason for being concerned is we heard all camp that outside receivers were an issue and then we have 2 perfect warm up games to sling the ball around and gain some confidence or weed out the JAGS and instead we've just been Wisconsin. That + zero integration of TE's in the passing game which should be our strength.

It's hard to imagine against TAMU all of a sudden that some magical playbook opens up and TVD duplicates his performances against VT, GT, Pitt etc...

Yes, we only had 177 against USM despite them stacking the box repeatedly and we still continued to establish the run because working on concepts and getting reps in per the gameplan is what you do against teams you expect to beat handily even if they go all out to stop it. Bottom line is the whining and hand wringing is WAY premature at this point given how early we are in the season and it being a new offense. If we are well into ACC play and still trying to force things that arent working, and losing as a result, then the non stop complaints become valid.

You know what else scares me? They tried to get the passing game going in the first half but TVD was indecisive and the line couldn’t pass block. In the second half they took control by just running the ball right at USM and added a little bit of gadget plays to get the offense firing. Now, that’s great but they’re not going to be able to do that against real teams. They aren’t good enough of an offensive line to just line up and push around good defenses. Maybe in another couple of years when they’ve recruited to that level but right now this is the same group besides Rivers who struggled to run block against the better teams.

They NEED to get the passing game issues straightened out because they’re not going to be able to just lean on the offensive line to carry them. They’re getting less than 4 yards per carry against Southern Miss. Texas A&M, Clemson, Pitt, even FSU aren’t just going to let Miami’s line push them around.

No one on here gets a vote, so should we shut down the site and stop discussing Miami football?

Just came in to cast a vote, I liked the choices by the way.

Definitely not reading 15 pages of opinions, or 'football savvy' posters arguing with each other.

I thought TVD looked off. Outside of that we started slowly and won a snoozer, fairly convincingly, in the middle of another day in **** at Hard Rock

The offense is new to Miami. It is not new to cristobal or gattis so we can look at their previous seasons and know what to expect. And they weren’t stacking the box, a lot of defenders end up in the box when you have 2-3 tight ends and only 2 wr’s

That 01 team would decimate today's no defense soft teams. That's the problem with spread offenses.

if we had the 01 roster sure. we have the 22 canes roster and they're not supremely talented lol. we also will likely never have that 01 roster again.

Wrong.

176 vs App State
322 vs CCSU
169 vs Virginia
157 vs UNC
174 vs GT

Last year we averaged 3.8 yards per carry as a team.

We averaged 3.5 yards per carry against USM on Saturday

How much are we going to average against a real team?
Parrish and Franklin led the team in carries against Southern Miss and averaged 4.6 and 4.8 yards per carry respectively. We ran the ball perfectly well in this game.

Im just worried we might have the better fit for the offense as QB2….
I was actually thinking this yesterday. In this offense you can’t overthink and lock in on one player and side of the field like he was able to do last year..

I think TVD will start to look better.. but last game was really concerning.. made me realize Lashlee offense masked some of his inabilities.

Garcia is a gamer, who believes he can make any throw and to any player.. not much thinking.. just going out there and doing it..
