Duke talks UM playcallers [Golden&Coley] & their playbook!

last year they did that because Kaaya was so young and was there for 3 months. not sure if he is speaking about the prior years. Morris probably couldnt run a offense that was too complicated because that guy made horrible decisions lol

Seriously, they are out-thinking themselves on that side of the ball. They seem to understand you have to keep it simple on O, but run a D that always, ALWAYS has someone mess up their assignment because they don't understand what to do.

Also, before we get to bashing a simple O, remember the 2001 O. Someone was quoted as saying "They only run 4 plays, but they run them perfectly", which made them impossible to stop. Execution is the key, and running the right play at the right time. Coley needs to prove he can get the right play in at the right time, because he has the weapons to work with.
Meanwhile our D is the most complex system ever designed....makes sense.

I remember Antrell Rolle said it once if you are better then the team on the other side it doesn't matter what the play call is or whose calling the plays you are just simply better and you execute it regardless if the other teams knows its coming or not.

**** our defense knew the run was coming 9 out of 10 times and we still couldn't stop teams like GT and Nebraska

We took a dump in the nebraska game, GT finally has a QB that is perfect for their system which gave every team fits

Well, hopefully those pro coaches can help Duke with ball protection cause those NFL guys hit with bad intentions. And hopefully those pro fans in Cleveland won't have to hold their breath every time takes a hit, cause Duke isn't the toughest RB the Canes have ever put out.

Not trying to defend the coaches but Dorsett said that the concepts of the colts offense were the same just had different names.

duke is prob confused because 80% of the plays at UM were called "get it to duke" lol

Right?? So let's keep our Offense simple for 17 & 18 year olds but we'll play a complex Defense for the samee 17 & 18 year olds??

Look what the Phins are doing? Coyle is simplifying the D' so players don't have to think so much out there and they can react more.. Be more instinctive.. Maybe Golden & No'D should think about doing the same..

I don't think Coley's the problem, IMO it's Golden.. Coley called a beautiful 1st half and the start of the 3rd quarter against FSU, and then they got conservative trying to hold onto the lead..

I don't know if Golden or No'D is the problem? But when the D plays Aggresive & Attacks instead of that Bend & Don't Break Crap, our team can play with almost any team in the country..

My Intern last summer played for Butch Davis at U.N.C. from 09-12, he said they use to fear playing The U, but now they believe they can Beat Us.

We've lost that SWAG

Either Golden has to Grow A Pair & Start going for the Juggler or Show him the Door..

I think you are making more of this than you should. In college its catered to 17 & 18 year olds coming out of high school. in the Pros you're getting 22 & 23 year olds. I would bet he is mostly talking about the language, intricacies, and audibles. Not trying to call Golden "Simple"

Not to sound like I'm defending these ****** coaches but Duke never once in that interview called the offense Pop Warner. Called it simple but he didn't call it Pop Warner.
This. ****** OP is making **** up with that quote. We are already ******, we don't need to make **** up to make us seem ****tier. Our program doesn't need the help as its at the bottom of the barrel already.

The offense might be a joke, but he never said it was Pop Warner-esque. If you're gonna quote someone then make sure it's accurate.

NVA CANE: OP is putting 100 on something that's already a 10. We get it, the coaches can't coach, but there's no need to fabricate storylines to prove a point. The on-field production is proof in itself. The fact that we stunk on 3rd downs is proof in itself. No need to put words in Duke's mouth. Duke and Philip already voiced their frustration via twitter circa 2013 when they both were injured and got WAXED by Va Tech. We know how Duke truly feels, but no need to add extras OP.

WTF! I wasn't furnished with a freaking TRANSCRIPT in real time. I had to recollect to the best of my abilities. Maybe these Golden slurp pets want me to scribe Duke like a mandated Courtroom Transcriber. ****, we've even said here a zillion times that comparing current UM Corches to Pop Warner is an injustice to Pop Warner coaches.

Considering how Duke smirked, giggled, and over all dismissive tone towards UM play callers, one should've complain that I couldn't quite capture that dis-rep in its pure form...as dismissive as that was.

I listened to the whole interview after reading this thread and Duke doesn't appear to be taking a jab at UM's offense. Would you expect him to say UM's playbook was like a pro playbook? There is a big difference between a NFL QB and a college QB, especially a freshman one. The only example he gave was audibles.Your comment about comparing it to pop warner really made his quote sound like a shot at UM when in fact he never said that.

I am no fan of Golden but things like this is why UM is successfully able to the media that the fans that are upset are a bunch of radicals that are not truthful. Sorry to be harsh but just my 2 cents. I wouldn't let it ruin your day, it happens.

Our defense isn't complex at all. We just don't recruit the right type of player to execute it. Our defensive scheme should be dictated by the players we have and typically get out of south florida and not what worked at Temple.

What's important is not the complexity of the offense, but rather the Execution of the offense. This is one area that we fell short on. Not converting 3rd and short because of missed assignments. Not extending drives, etc. I hate the bubble screen offense, but a lot of our struggles were due to poor execution.

We out-talented every team we played except FSU. We had an NFL talented offense, we didn't need a complex offense to put up points consistently.

Should have read: 3rd and anything.

I think some people give the NFL a little too much credit.

How much more complex do you really think an NFL offense is? I've seen NFL coaches give clinics and it's the same stuff good college OC's are teaching.

You see college coordinators getting NFL jobs all the time. Does their knowledge of offense instantly jump once they get to the NFL? (no)
