Duke Johnson

Maybe there are better guys on the rosters he goes to? I called this when he was here his speed will keep him seated in the pros. He's not being underused this is the player he is and these are the best players in the world.

His speed? He had above average speed for an RB. I believe he ran a 4.5 in the combine and 4.4 in his pro day.

How many NFL running backs do you think run 4.5? Speed hasn’t been the issue for him in the NFL.

Plus nfl pension

Which quite frankly isn't that good from looking briefly at what they get paid. You still have to wait until 55 if you want full benefits. It averages around $3,000 per year for each year played. You play 10 years, you get $43,000 per year. You can draw early, but those amounts are slashed.

Seems the NFL is lagging far behind MLB and the NBA. Guess that's probably due to the amount of players on a team. MLB at 10 years gets 200k a year.

If he’s been in the league 6 years he should be more than satisfied with how things turned out. For a RB his size and skillset, 3-4 years would be the cap. 3rd down backs don’t have a long shelf life for the most part. Guys like Darren Sproles are huge outliers. Cheers to him and hope he realizes that and isn’t down on himself.

Duke Johnson, Todd Gurley, LeVeon Bell - they still have something left in the tank (although diminished), but I think they still see themselves as bigger contributors when really the veteran minimum and merely being depth players is what's on the table. It can be hard to face reality.

I'd expect to see them on rosters this year.

Frank Gore, Adrian Peterson, LeSean McCoy - those are all time greats whose name I still see getting thrown out there but I thnk have come to the end of the road. This might be it for Lamar Miller too.

It's brutal being an NFL RB.

bro you dont have all of the details.

there is major difference in annual payouts at “retirement” from nfl versus real world “retirement” at 65.

I don’t see Duke as diminished at all, he’s just limited. He was never gonna be a 3 down back. He could easily play another 5 years at a high level in the right offense.

This is the devaluation of the NFL running back. Is Duke still a better player than most of the 2nd and 3rd team running backs in the league? Yeah. Is his veteran minimum more than anyone wants to pay for a backup running back? Yeah. The average career length for any NFL player is 3.3 years. It's 2.5 for running backs.

Okay, so what are the payouts? That is from multiple sources regarding an NFL pension and is peanuts compared to the other major sports.

Duke might not want to play. I remember when he was in Cleveland he asked Hugh jackson to move him to wr and Jackson said no. And he said his advice to kids is to play some other than rb and said if he could do it over he would play DB.
