DTs and Jackson update - Tuesday 11PM

For the record, this is a problem that started last cycle w this staff. We didnt recruit enough then and heard things like: "the staff likes the guys on roster" and "Willis is like another recruit."

Even if RJ and Norton stay, its meaningless unless the recruiting philosophy changes (at a couple of spots actually). Theres picky, and then theres playing yourself. Im not so sure this staff wouldve even taken RJ and Norton w the way they act.

Picky is good. They need to be picky. They just need to close the deal and land the guys they are targeting.

I get the sense that this is one of those moments in Richt's career here that will make or break him. I feel like we're on the cusp.

If we close with just the class we already have, then I think he maxes out as a 10/11 win coach and never gets us over the hump. If he can land us another 6 or 7 elite kids on signing day.... I'm talking Campbell, Surtain, Thompson, Petit Frere.... kids like that.... then he'll be a championship coach.

We need a talent infusion here in Miami. We just don't have enough "dudes," as Richt said when he got here.

He's one of the best recruiters in America, so we are in good hands. But man... he needs something to break his way right now.

Perfectly said. The time is now. It's POOGO as the infamous Kelly Bundy once said.

Didn't mention where you live, said he will play 3 seasons in nfl min, at your rate, he takes home $900k in 3 seasons.
He can finish school anytime if things don't work out, you act like he isn't smart and doesn't have other options if it doesn't work out.

you want him back for your personal gain, as do I, but he needs to do what he thinks is best for him

If they come back and end up in the 2nd/3rd round instead of 4/5/6th/UDFA they increase their earnings potential by 5x.

The whole 2nd contract stuff is garbage. The average NFL career is 3.3 years so more than half of players NEVER make it to their 2nd contract.

"Things really drop in the second round, where the average contract was worth about $5.1 million over four years ($1.3 million per year), according to Spotrac.com, but with only half of that guaranteed. The value of third-round contracts drops to $3.3 million, but takes an even bigger hit in guaranteed value, with the average contract worth just $756,000 in guaranteed money.

Once a player falls past the third round, most draft picks will sign a 4-year deal in the $2.4-2.9 million range. The only major difference late in the draft is the signing bonus, ranging from $400,000-600,000 in the fourth round to slightly more than $60,000 in the seventh round."

This team really had me fooled, thought they were building something special towards next year when in reality a quarter of them were counting the days before the end of the season to leave. All momentum is lost at the moment, hope the staff has something up their sleeves or back to 8-4 we go....thanks for the info Pete, as unfortunate as it may be.

Get your **** together man. Our starting defensive line will be better than any team’s in our division. And overall, our top line talent will be among the top ten in the country and better than any team in the ACC not named Clemson. Smh at 8-4. We just made the ACCCG with a limp wristed dirt baller at QB. But, yeah, we’re going to regress big time because three defensive linemen who did absolutely nothing but get their **** pushed in during our three losses are leaving the team. Defensive tackle depth is scary and needs to be fixed if we want to compete for national championships in 2019 and beyond. But we’re not losing 4 games next year because of our defensive line.

We were lucky to be 10-3 this year and now our biggest strength (the d-line) looks like it’s gonna be a liability. I had extremely high hopes for next year but we’ve just taken hit after hit lately. We need to close strong on the recruiting trail and mine for grad transfers once again. I’m not patient enough to say it’s ok we’ll contend for a national championship in 3 years etc. I feel like we’ve waited long enough and realistically it doesn’t take 5 years to build a contender so it’s fair to expect Richt to put us in position to compete next year and as of right now we will not have the depth to compete for the championship next season unless we land some instant impact players. Hoping for the best though

No you don’t hope for the best, you are hoping for the next opportunity to complain ...

Feel free to search the few posts I make throughout the year, don’t complain very often just a little more realistic than the fans that think putting a U on a helmet makes our team great, like I said in my initial post there is still time to compensate for these losses but the staff needs to get on it. If u can’t accept that I’m not sure what to tell ya...

Mike Jackson shouldn't come back. Yes he got picks (even though 2 were thrown right at him) but his coverage was average. He should go while the going is hot. I don't think he has half the season he had this year. This is his best year to get drafted. Depending on how NSD shapes up he won't play as much as he did this year IMO.
This

Jackson wasn't getting hyped up by scouts and received a subpar draft grade. Where do you guys get this whole "he should've left while he was hot" mess?
Straight Outta ******

Be prepared for this:

DE

Joe Jackson
Demetrius Jackson
Jonathan Garvin
Scott Patchan
Gregory Rousseau
Andrew Chatfield

DT

Gerald Willis
Jon Ford
Pat Bethel
Nesta Silvera
Tyreic Martin
Tre Johnson (moved from OL)

I can live with that setup next season. We just can't afford ANY injuries!

Little chance of that

There's no excuses for the cupboard to be this bare at DT. Kool recruits well at DE but so far DT sucks!

Again - this does not fall just on Kool. This falls on the entire staff, including Richt. Richt needs to manage the roster and identify how many bodies are needed each cycle - then the position coach needs to identify kids he likes and pursue them. Coaches recruits areas, so Kool isn't recruiting every DT or DE. This is a staff issue.

You have to recruit linemen and QBs every cycle. You can never have enough depth and you cannot win without them.

I remember Richt saying Kul has complete autonomy recruiting DL and he leaves him alone.

where is the proof either could increase their stock? some guys don't move and they told that

Lmao. Costing themselves millions. Nowhere near ready or strong enough. They will both be embarrassed in camp. Absolutely embarrassed. Oh well. We’re a top 10-25 program. That’s that.

Someone associated with the program needs to get these agents the F*CK off of campus and keep them away from our players. It really seems like we have a higher underclassmen attrition rate than most major programs.

Wish mike jack leaves this year, he has potential to rise in the draft process with his good tape outside of a few games this year, size, speed and production

What the **** are you talking about?

Jackson had one really good game. That’s it.

Picky is good. They need to be picky. They just need to close the deal and land the guys they are targeting.

I dont want bums either or to take a guy just to take em, but there are plenty of quality guys we're passing on.

Our best D End this yr was Trent Harris. Would this staff have recruited him? D Jack? RJ? Norton?

A similar situation is playing out at LB. There are only two proven LB's on the roster and both could be gone next year. The sole LB commit in this class is a HS pass rusher.

The problem is older, since the Golden Era.

DT has become the premium moneybag position. We gotta play the game.

Lol at leaving to be a 5th round pick. Does Richt convince these kids to leave? I don't understand why he can't ever get anyone to stay.
