DTs and Jackson update - Tuesday 11PM

Be prepared for this:

DE

Joe Jackson
Demetrius Jackson
Jonathan Garvin
Scott Patchan
Gregory Rousseau
Andrew Chatfield

DT

Gerald Willis
Jon Ford
Pat Bethel
Nesta Silvera
Tyreic Martin
Tre Johnson (moved from OL)

I can live with that setup next season. We just can't afford ANY injuries!

Little chance of that

There's no excuses for the cupboard to be this bare at DT. Kool recruits well at DE but so far DT sucks!

A list of 12 guys... 3 true freshmen, one of those isn’t even signed. 2 that will have no business playing because they’re not physically ready. A guy that was a last second signing 2 years ago and has never even had his name on a depth chart or mentioned at practice for anything. A converted 6’7 OT. A guy with 2 ACL surgeries that played last season at TE. A guy coming off a season ending knee injury of unknown extent. A guy that’s played 8 games in 4 years while being kicked out of one school and academically ineligible at another. A converted DE with minimal statistical production in 2 years and is slightly undersized. A guy that hasn’t played/barely qualified last August. Basically you’re left with Joe Jackson and Garvin.

Can’t wait to see how good this group will be. Best group we ever had on paper.

This team really had me fooled, thought they were building something special towards next year when in reality a quarter of them were counting the days before the end of the season to leave. All momentum is lost at the moment, hope the staff has something up their sleeves or back to 8-4 we go....thanks for the info Pete, as unfortunate as it may be.

Anybody who wants to put money on us going 8-4 next year just let me know.

I'll gladly take the over and your $

I would never bet against us but unless Nkosi is an absolute baller I just don’t see us being a great team next year. It’s been a rough month though so I’ll reevaluate after signing day.

**** these guys. Norton will be scrubbing toilets in three years.

Average idiot in here, lives with their parents or 4 other losers and has credit card debt on foolish purchases, but a guy about to be paid in the nfl for a few seasons will be scrubbing toilets?
ok

You couldn't be more wrong about where I live champ and your commentary about getting paid for a few NFL seasons shows you are either really young or poor.

His $500k signing bonus after taxes, agent fees, accounting fees, nutritionist, etc will net him about $300k assuming that he doesn't buy a single thing.

It is a MORONIC decision to leave early to be drafted in the later rounds.

Didn't mention where you live, said he will play 3 seasons in nfl min, at your rate, he takes home $900k in 3 seasons.
He can finish school anytime if things don't work out, you act like he isn't smart and doesn't have other options if it doesn't work out.

you want him back for your personal gain, as do I, but he needs to do what he thinks is best for him

Again - this does not fall just on Kool. This falls on the entire staff, including Richt. Richt needs to manage the roster and identify how many bodies are needed each cycle - then the position coach needs to identify kids he likes and pursue them. Coaches recruits areas, so Kool isn't recruiting every DT or DE. This is a staff issue.

You have to recruit linemen and QBs every cycle. You can never have enough depth and you cannot win without them.

Agree. This is a complete disaster without a solid transfer and a top 5 level DT recruit to add with Nesta.

Can’t believe these 2 are going to leave after getting manhandled by Wisc just doesn’t seem smart to me. I️m all for guys going and getting their money but the stock for RJ had to have gone down after he was nonexistent.

Another thing this makes me wonder about is the confidence these guys have in Perry and the rest of the offense.

facts. Roster mgmt is the staffs and primarily richts job. Will see where the numbers are at fall camp but there’s no reason to be in a hole numbers wise at any position group.

Get your **** together man. Our starting defensive line will be better than any team’s in our division. And overall, our top line talent will be among the top ten in the country and better than any team in the ACC not named Clemson. Smh at 8-4. We just made the ACCCG with a limp wristed dirt baller at QB. But, yeah, we’re going to regress big time because three defensive linemen who did absolutely nothing but get their **** pushed in during our three losses are leaving the team. Defensive tackle depth is scary and needs to be fixed if we want to compete for national championships in 2019 and beyond. But we’re not losing 4 games next year because of our defensive line.

We were lucky to be 10-3 this year and now our biggest strength (the d-line) looks like it’s gonna be a liability. I had extremely high hopes for next year but we’ve just taken hit after hit lately. We need to close strong on the recruiting trail and mine for grad transfers once again. I’m not patient enough to say it’s ok we’ll contend for a national championship in 3 years etc. I feel like we’ve waited long enough and realistically it doesn’t take 5 years to build a contender so it’s fair to expect Richt to put us in position to compete next year and as of right now we will not have the depth to compete for the championship next season unless we land some instant impact players. Hoping for the best though

No you don’t hope for the best, you are hoping for the next opportunity to complain ...

I get the sense that this is one of those moments in Richt's career here that will make or break him. I feel like we're on the cusp.

If we close with just the class we already have, then I think he maxes out as a 10/11 win coach and never gets us over the hump. If he can land us another 6 or 7 elite kids on signing day.... I'm talking Campbell, Surtain, Thompson, Petit Frere.... kids like that.... then he'll be a championship coach.

We need a talent infusion here in Miami. We just don't have enough "dudes," as Richt said when he got here.

He's one of the best recruiters in America, so we are in good hands. But man... he needs something to break his way right now.

For the record, this is a problem that started last cycle w this staff. We didnt recruit enough then and heard things like: "the staff likes the guys on roster" and "Willis is like another recruit."

Even if RJ and Norton stay, its meaningless unless the recruiting philosophy changes (at a couple of spots actually). Theres picky, and then theres playing yourself. Im not so sure this staff wouldve even taken RJ and Norton w the way they act.
