DT Jarquez Carter commits to Miami

Is he a dual threat guy or more of a pocket passer?

Simpson was short as well. Sounds like we upgraded from Simpson to Carter.
Similar height and weight to another DT from north Central Fla, one Jerome Brown, if this kid and can approach that level we are cooking. Coach them up!

Second time's the charm. After finishing runner-up in his high school recruitment, the Miami Hurricanes secured the commitment of Jarquez Carter out of the transfer portal.

Carter, a 6-foot-2, 290-pound defensive lineman, signed with Ohio State last year as a four-star prospect out of Newberry, Florida.

During his freshman season with the Buckeyes, Carter appeared in seven games and registered one tackle. He played 51 snaps in total. He has three years of eligibility remaining. He chose the Canes over Texas A&M.

Carter joins former teammate DT Mykah Newton, who signed with the Hurricanes last year. Donta Simpson, the other defensive tackle in Miami's 2025 class, has since transferred to Missouri.

Carter was a two-sport athlete at Newberry (basketball) and brings initial quickness, strength and motor to the position.

Can he play qb ? J/k

I mean, if you think he's a better get than Brewu, God Bless. He is a depth piece at most next year, where Brewu would have been a significant contributor.

We don't know this…DT are capable of taking a step in year two and if Brewu was at OSU (or UM this year) he wouldn't have seen as many snaps as he did at Pitt (And I like Brewu and would have been happy with him to UM)

Brewu more proven yes? But when you are dealing with loaded rosters like OSU/GA (UM closing gap fast), there are very capable players behind the studs starting.

For instance this whole board expected Simpson to take a big step for us next year.

For 2026 Brewu is 100% the better option. I am not talking beyond.

Carter has done literally nothing. ****, Simpson had more production and he had none.

There’s your DT @Calinative #panican
Dline was the least of the worries cause it was still deepest available in portal. But it made no sense for you to be giving credit for potential adds that hadn’t happened yet. This is a fine addition to replace Simpson.

The SDE option is the critical one on defensive side. Luckily there are still at least 3 very good options there and one decent one in the UTenn guy. He seems like a great athlete but the size would be the concern he seems like more of a WDE type. Wilson and even Gregory from OKst seem the best
