DT Isaiah Broughton decommits from UNLV

That's a bad comparison Bain was an underrated 4* and Leonard Taylor was a 5* that got by in High school on his size & athleticism.

Broughton is a 3* with size that is playing suspect competition, and will need 2 years in a S&C program along with coaching to produce at good rotational level for a P4 team. Bain & LT were contributing as freshmen.

He plays for the cy fair ISD school district. That’s not suspect comp. Same place people like Harold Perkins came from

Bain was recruited by everyone just like Taylor

**** a recruiting service they had offers from where they wanted to go..

He plays fair competition the biggest thing is he’s definitely going to need to spend at least 1 to 2 seasons getting his body right but the blood lines and talent are very obvious

Y'all know if you add 5DTs it increases your odds of hitting on 2 of them, which A) gives you depth you need regardless and B) is far cheaper than the portal.

Literally I wouldn't mind adding 4 DTs per year out of HS. Ideally 1 is a 5star, and the other 3 are great developmental guys with good body types. Then maybe 2 leave after 2 years. Rinse and repeat. And then maybe you only have to get a portal DT every other year when needed.

Our current DT outlook for 26+27 is garbage. We need big classes this year and next

Florida has a few young DTs that I think we should go after in the portal

I literally said explosiveness brother, and no disrespect, but first step covers explosiveness, I also said can he move which was referring to quickness (laterally is a part of that as well)
In that case, moving can mean anything (run, jump, lateral, backwards, rolling, **** even crawling, lol), The way you phrased it, it sounds like you were just talking running straight ahead. Thanks for clearing that up.

he needs s&c but i go with that type of size all day (pause). Him and Kennedy are real behemoths with some movement skills both guys are over 320. If you can land two of those in one class you take that shot and bet on his pedigree (nfl brother) especially since locally you will never have those types once every 5 years or so.
This……… Arnez Cooper was overweight when he came to Miami and was proper strength and conditioning . He was able to transform his body so it is possible.

That's a big boi

Agree, kid may not play much year 1 but get him in a real strength program and we may have something.
I'm not sure there are many 18 year olds I would want to play meaningful minutes at DT if my team is looking to do more than win 7 games.

OL/DL are spots where unless the kid is physically ready you'd mich rather give the kid a year or two before you expect much from him. Those positions almost require grown men for those position be spots of strength.

Take the big bodies with traits and see what you have after a year or two. Then, you either have some dudes or you cycle off them and lean into the next guys or portal.
