DT Frederic Sainteus Commits to Miami

We have the best DL in the country right now. Bain, Mesidor, and Moten are unblockable. Lightfoot has Jason Taylor qualities to his game: can rush the passer and cover. Scott and Blount are coming on and seem to always make an impact when taking snaps. And Blay is a boulder.

Sainteus is coming in buried at the bottom of the DT depth chart. And that’s expected, he’s a project. And it gets even worse with Kennedy coming in with him and even much worse if Miami actually signs Jones and Johnson. I hope the kid develops and becomes a star. I don’t wish anything bad for him…..I just think, if he does develop, his playing time will be with another team because he will portal out of Miami.

You're all over the place here. Whatever.

I’m literally making the argument that Miami is in the league of chasing titles and teams that do compete for titles don’t take developmental players in the portal era. How is that being a mope? Because I just don’t praise everything our staff does? Go away
I really don’t understand this take. Is this an unofficial rule, or just your preference, because I believe every “title contending team” since the inception of the “portal era” has taken 3 star DLs. There is no standard for what you’re asking for. I think there is more of an issue with Miami not getting more 4/5 stars DLs. Taking flyers on under-touted athletes is a non issue in my opinion.

At any rate, players portal out regardless of stars. And if teams have scouted/evaluated certain players they feel will fit their system, I have no issues with offering out and taking commitments. Hopefully it works out, if it doesn’t that’s why we have the portal. Otherwise we can try the Clemson model…

Okay keyboard warrior. It’s fair criticism to judge whether a recruit that is #1995 and a former FAU commit is a take for a team that is hunting for a national title. In the portal era, stashing guys for development seems not to work and the portal is in his future. The guy’s best offer was us and a bunch of ******* slap ****s.

I didn’t have to search for long to see you criticize one of our players but of course, your criticism is fair, but not mine. Go figure. How about this? I’ve offered an opinion and a decent analysis of why I should feel the way I do about this recruit. Argue the point instead of an ad hominem. Deal?

I understand your position. In your opinion, how long do you think it will take this guy to be able to play, solid minutes, make a solid contribution to a defense that should be championship level? How many years?

I’d imagine between 2 to 3 years if he sticks/develops. That’s where I’m at with a couple of players currently on the team, like Artivious Jones and Donta Simpson. If they don’t work out, it’s portal or hopeful hits on other recruits.

I agree with you, and this is precisely my point of why Sainteus isn't a take for us. By the time he develops, if he even does, he will be a Junior and already be playing for UCF or FAU. But ****, Im the furthest thing from a talent evaluator. I'm nothing compared to the rest of these guys in this thread.

I mean that’s the nature of the beast. If someone feels they’re good enough and wants more time, they’re going to transfer out. Be it a 3 4 5 or no star. Don’t really spend energy on those thoughts because the team should always be thinking contingencies. I want him to be a diamond in the rough and be an early contributor, but historically that isn’t usually the case but you need bodies on the line. Great if you can have a budding 4/5 star back up, but you don’t see the legitimate good ones sticking around if they have talent ahead of them (or forced into smaller roles if previously a starter) in the portal era. The hope then becomes who have we developed internally/who can we find in the portal. Maybe he becomes one of those solid rotational upperclassman (like a Trent Harris). Can’t understate how good it is to have bodies at DL, so then the hope becomes that he doesn’t transfer, but who knows what will happen (I guess the that’s my point haha).

Like you I’m no evaluator of talent, but no issues with the pick up. Miami does need to pick up more 4/5 stars though.

Both Georgia and Texas have had former walk-ons starting in their secondary the past few seasons... Walk-ons, so yeah, Big time programs competing for championships take guys who can be developed in 2-3 years. Mind you, the scholarship number changes also have changed the game as well with taking high school guys.

You found that diamond in the rough. Congratulations.

sorry, man, I'm old. I appreciate your push back. Love ya, dude. no homo.
I'm old too - I love the food at Kroger's (they call it Ralph's out here in California), but I don't have enough hair to dye it pink and blue and work there.
Had you said clock in at Wal-Mart, I would've challenged you to meet me in the Blue Lot.

Welcome to the U young man! I think we can all agree that 99% of fans in here are not talent evaluators, maybe even higher, but I think most people will agree that Mario is one of the best recruiters out there. We have some really good coaches that know what they're looking for and know how to get the best out of each player. I can almost guarantee our coaches have communicated a detailed plan with him, which most likely does NOT include starting his first year(most likely RS) or even getting much PT because it seems our staff is very honest and open with these kids, they don't sugar coat $#!*. Let's be honest, how many DT's come in and start right away, even 5* kids? Bottom line is Mario and staff have done an outstanding job with both lines of scrimmage and we should trust their evaluations and developmental acumen.

Great example is with Moten. He was a 3 star recruit coming out. He stuck around and developed nicely into a rotational DT for us.

THIS, was Moten not a take because he was a 3 star and would take a few years to develop? He stayed in the system and now look at him, playing starter snaps, and if he stays another year that's 2 years of solid contributions.

This whole narrative of we shouldn't take players cause they might need a couple years to contributor is dumb. there's now 105 scholarships. you still need depth and scout team players that need to grow and develop.

Again, with the portal, stashing guys for a few years until their junior season isn’t desirable for the player. He’s going to portal to FAU and play before he cracks the rotation here.

Returning for Sainteus’ freshman year at interior D-line:
Scott
Blount
Moten
Jones
Newton
Russell
Simpson

And this isn’t even considering who we add in 2026 (his same class) and in 2027.

I don’t think a team that is hunting nattys can stash guys for a few years especially in the portal era.
Looks like we’ve had good luck stashing and developing dudes on the lines.
