DT & DE Portal Targets?

Seriously I really think we need to go for J'Mond Tapp. Would be very efficient use of resources for a guy who was pretty great this year, and has the SDE size we want at 6'3" 275. And I think for his size he's pretty athletic.


Again he had an 89.7 overall grade and a 90.7 Pass Rush grade this year generating 59 pressures for Southern Miss. 78.7 Run D grade which is good. Biggest problem he's already been at 3 programs

Then I like Wendell Gregory too. Damon Wilson is probably the top guy total available but likely also the most expensive. Not sure we should be trying to go that route, but maybe. Chaz Coleman is maybe the guy with the most high upside....
The Desir twins are probably the best young guys who have actually gotten reps.

Other smaller school guys for Depth are like
- Marques White, UMASS, 6'2" 250lbs. 90.3 Overall Grade, 92.3 Pass Rush Grade, 76.5 Run D grade. Great Athleticism.
Dude would be in his 7th ******* year lmao. Has 95 pressures on 791 career pass rush snaps (12% pressure%).


- Anthony Bynum, MiddleTenn. 6'3" 260lbs. 75.0 Overall Grade, 67.4 Pass Rush Grade, 79.8 Run D Grade. (3rd highest on their Defense). Okay athleticism.
38 pressures this year. Lines up from B gap to Outside tackle primarily.

- Harvey Dyson, Tulane. 6'3" 250lbs. 66.8 Overall Grade, 90.4 Pass Rush Grade, 53.5 RuN D Grade. Solid Athleticism.
Was primarily a pass rush guy this year it seems. 24 Pressures on 201 pass rush snaps is very good. But previous year at TexasSt wasn't as good.
And why he wouldn't just follow his HC to UF is a little eye opening maybe...
 
I think an interesting cheap David Blay Replacement just entered the portal maybe? Super Senior

6'3" 316lbs. And Seems very athletic. Was an Olineman and moved to DLine last year. Started as a Walk on
74.4 Overall Grade, 74.2 Run D Grade, 68.9 Pass Rush Grade
29 Pressures on 272 pass rush snaps too (almost 11% for a DT is great).

They have the money for Wilson. Outside of qb they aren’t spending big money on guys

The “seeking a waiver” kinda kills the idea though. That seems to be a very low success rate.

Hayden Lowe sounds like a player, but he’s coming off injury as well.
I love Lightfoot, but he’s not an every down DE due to his size.
Pickett may be in the same boat as Lightfoot

Hopefully Cole McConathy can come off his injury and play.

Who replaces Blay?
We’d have Scott, Moten (hopefully), and Blount.

We have a few freshmen coming in, but we need to add starter worthy depth

This is just dilly. Why do we need 2 DEs from the portal? We have 3 5-star DEs waiting in the wings as well as some higj end 4-stars.

Blount, Lightfoot, Lowe, Pickett, Scroggins, McConathy, and Bryant.

It drives me nuts that people think every solution is in the portal when it's right there on your roster.

Because Bryant wont be here, Blount seems to be moving more to DT, and Pickett is even skinnier than Lightfoot.

We have 3 EDGEs that are 250lbs+ and are losing two this year who played legit like 90% of snaps.

Not sure we NEED 2. But we 1000% need one SDE type, without question. Personally I'd have Blount still in the same role of EDGE on Run Downs and moving inside on pass downs.
