DT Board (Portal 2024 Edition)

Portal is closed to undergrad & grad transfers now but as someone has said, maybe @TheOriginalCane what would stop someone from enrolling to Miami without entering portal like Lucas did.

Nothing.

Or, to put it another way...if a kid wants to enter the Portal in order to be wined, dined, and sixty-nined by multiple schools, it's over.

But if a someone, be it a freshman, upperclassman, or graduate...already knows a destination...there is absolutely NOTHING that prevents a person from "unenrolling" at the old school and "enrolling" at the new school. Which certainly SEEEEEMS like a transfer...but is not, per the terms of the legal precedent of Xavier Lucas v. Wisconsin...

So you're say'n there's a chance...

We needed a good run stopping DT desperately. People can repeat 100 times we only need a #4. The truth is Blay (small) didn't look good in Spring, he improved some with pads on and Moton is always nicked up. Are you going to play Bonner, Pruitt, Brantley, and Markeith behind them against ND? That's a nightmare scenario. Somehow that describes our tiny team of 2 decades getting drug. As well as we did in the portal again, we missed at WR #1, DT, S and 3 years running at Nickel. Luckily, we are still in the ACC.

I agree w the DT concerns. The lack of deptj will 1000% hurt us, but this is the first time I’ve heard Blay is small.

D'Antre Robinson to North Carolina was one of our biggest misses for the whole portal year. That one would have helped solve a lot of problems this year and next with DT depth
I assume he wanted PT, which is why he went to North Carolina. He just would have set the bench for most of the year here

A DT4 would have been nice incase of injuries. DT4's rarely play, and people always forget that Bain and Mesidor will likely slide inside for certain packages. Let's see what Jones and Simpson can do

There’s a kid from Bayl

D’Nas White from FSU is still out there but idk if he’s a legit guy.

No, everyone is aware because ya’ll say it in every DT discussion.

Looking at the Data still available, Gavin Ransaw from Coastal Carolina seems like one of best available tbh. Got good size. Was listed at 340lbs when at community College, but is listed at 295 for this past season at Coastal Carolina. His brother Caleb Ransaw was just drafted in 3rd round by Jags and tested extremely athletically. Now obviously no knowing how good of an athlete Gavin is, but at 295 or possibly 300+, but his brother is a Cb that was a great athlete, so that is the kind of bet I’d make over many of these other guys remaining in the portal at DT tbh.

Anyone got his pff grades from this season? Doesn’t look like he has done much at all… but again most of these portal DTs haven’t done much and are very undersized…

Scott, Moten and Blay would theoretically be ahead of him. Im not sure he couldn't pass one or even two of them up but even without that, there are definitely snaps available at the backup DT positions. If you have good depth, those guys can get close to as many snaps as the starters. Problem is, most teams dont have depth at that position to rotate in as much as they would like.

On top of that, if just one guy goes down he would be getting major burn. How many teams go a full season with no lost time at the DT spot? You would have to be extremely lucky for that to happen.

Wait Blay is small???

Explain

Slim pickings. Sucks Horton left. He been injured most of the time, but he'd have been a better option as the 4th DT than any of these guys or other spring portal guys

Blay small? Dude is 6’3 305-310. And you the first person who has said he didn’t look good in spring. We signed 2 safeties too and neither are small. Need more depth there but the starters should be fine

You already know out of those 3 which one I pulling for. Puefua is the biggest by far at 6'4" 340lbs, has 4 years of eligibility, and adds to Miami's Poly Pipeline.

Just for size reference here is Puefua as senior in high school standing next to his 6'5" 310 cousin Dave IuLi who plays for Oregon.

Go Canes

That guy’s post is BS. Blay is over 300 pounds and he looked good in spring. So I don’t know what that guy is talking about.

Rumors are heating up that Sherrone Moore is going to be fired. I know, shocking. They got some answers for us at DT Rayshaun Benny, portaled in - Tre Williams(from Clemson, Damon Payne Jr(from Bama). I am not familiar with their WR. I know they brought in the 6'5" WR from Indiana. I think he is pretty good, but I am not real familiar with him. Ernest Hausmann is a nice MLB. Making a shopping list. Bryce Underwood?
