I’m not an evaluator but someone tell me why he’s not at the top of the transfer board.

I haven't watched him, but others claim that he hasn't performed well against quality opponents. But, if Dawson likes him, I say bring him in.

His throwing motion leaves a lot to be desired. Starts almost at his hip. It causes a lot of batted balls and more ints than you would like. He’s a gamer and will only get better but tbh for what Miami is spending we can do better.

A legitimate question: who do you think?

If Mestemaker jumped in the Portal as a true free agent, he'd be the talk of the town. He's a legitimate talent with real NFL tools, just like their freshman RB Caleb Hawkins.

The key is the North Texas head coach, Eric Morris. He's going to be a hot commodity. If he gets a job like Oklahoma State, he might take his guys with him. But if they hit the market, they'll be able to play at the highest levels of P4.

There is nobody better my man.
Dude has all the tools. Makes throws all over the field. Goes through progressions. Accuracy is ridiculous and can move if he has too. Great decision making ability and picket presence. He was a back up qb in high school and played safety. Was 6th string when he got to north Texas and was recruited by the same dude that recruited cam Ward and Mateer.
The last place you want this guy at is Oklahoma.

I’m all for reaching for a quality QB from the Portal. But, can’t stess this enough, the search for a QB should begin with the hiring of a known and experienced dedicated QB coach. I get that Dawson does what he does. But truthfully haven’t seen a lot of development of our recruits. There are talented kids out there that have a great upside, but flaws that need coaching. Just talking about this guy Mestemaker being a gamer but flawed. I like Bailey, but he needs to be coached up and developed. Leavitt the same. And what sense does it make to bring in a 4/5 star HS Qb and work with them part time along with your OC duties.. Delegate that. Maybe I’m just pis***g in the wind, but it’s my opinion and ya know what they say about those. Coaching counts.

I dunno.

Rewatch the game vs USF (it's the only game I watched of North Texas) and he did not look better then anything better the a high G5 or low P4 guy. He's got a bit of mobility skills, but he sideline deep ball (which is important for our team) ain't great. He's playing a a very pro QB friendly offense, meanwhile, here is more balanced.
Oklahoma State would be a good landing ground for him.

I think a lot of teams would love to have him, but if we're continuing our recent Transfer Portal picks up we can do better, but he'd be a great Plan B guy.

How is he flawed?

You answered my question before I could even ask, I felt like the announcers kept harping on the fact that he never started a game at QB in HS and it just seemed insane to me. I just thinking how could that possibly be true. Incredible eval

Just going on what other guys have just said. But all these kids have things to work on, to improve. The only guru I saw ready to play out of HS was Peyton, and even he had major room for improvement. But did you miss my point about coaching, while you’re trying hard to defend your post on this kid. A great post I’ll add, but lighten that S**t up a little.

I think it’s too early to tell, coaches coming and going. Who lands where? This all shapes the portal. I know the names linked to Miami so far (Sellers and Leavitt) leave a lot to be desired in the accuracy department. I think Raiola would be great here, massive arm and very accurate. He’s being wasted in NEB, if Rhule leaves does he jump? Same for Fisch and Desmond.

I’ll be honest, I give zero ***** about mechanics if the guy has “it”. He has all the intangibles to go with being a good passer with accuracy. Philip Rivers and Vince Young didn’t have the best mechanics and were just fine.

He’d be in my top 3. I’d much rather have him after two years than Beck after five .

Well yes, if I had to pick exclusively between the two I agree with you. Reports saying Canes bout to break the bank to get THE guy. I just don’t think Mestemaker is THE guy. He could turn out to be the best QB option in portal and then Im in. I just don’t know if he’s worth 4-6Ms after one season getting snaps at G5 level when I watch film. Probably a non-factor though, he will follow Morris imo.

I mean Dawson hasn’t been there that long to develop. He’s signed 2 QBs so far which were Nickel who is a true freshman and Judd who is also a freshman still and was always a huge project and long shot to ever start imo

600+ yards in a game passing is an absurd number. And considering he’s only getting started. Sky is the limit for this kid. Even if he doesn’t come here I will be watching to see how he does at a bigger school when he transfers.
