Draft picks by state

Glaring initial point jumps from this datum:

Alabama has actually significantly underperformed as a team, while Clemson has significantly overperformed as a team.

What would be an interesting paired data set (obviously in future years): of this 5yr draft period, what were the average nfl career lengths?

Again, assembling the best team is much better long term success plan than chasing these individual "superstars".
No that says Clemson is not developing their talent because they have top three/four classes each year along with bama, osu, and Georgia. Yes they win as they should since they in the acc but the players they have ain’t as good as Bama of course but they should be higher in draft picks.

Miami needs more Phillips and Rousseaus to sit at the big-boy table but this is good company.

It feels like the state of California is slipping as a talent producer.

But but but, we don’t have the talent to compete with UNC and GT. Coaching won’t matter until we can recruit better.

With the abundance of NFL valued talent they enjoy over the rest, one would think zero losses at all past 5 years...
If you think that, you don’t understand football, imo. They got beat by NFL all pro QBs. (Projecting Lawrence, No. 1 overall pick). Clemson also had superior DL and some very good skill position guys. The game isn’t some raw averaging of nfl talent. Who you have in which spots matters. The New England Patriots proved that in the NFL.

Respectfully disagree. No doubt Lawrence is an exceptionally skilled QB, but with the "gap" in talent, one (some) would think it too large a chasm for any single player to overcome. Thats why I believe the program effort at Clemson is really remarkable considering how "far down" the list they were.

Who do you think will be more "successful" NFL QB? Lawrence, Fields, or Jones?

One thing Dabo got right, he over values guys at certain positions, particularly QB and DT.

This just shows how important QB play is. We have enough overall talent we have lacked difference makers at QB.

The simple analysis is "keep more guys from SoFl in Miami". This years DE and CB talent from SoFl is a great example. None are a lock for the hometown team! I think it's more of a parent thing, they seeing $$$ signs at baga.

Again, not all players are equal Value. A truly great QB is worth a lot more than anyone else. And Clemson’s DL superiority was important also. Also, team’s don’t compete based on ‘average’ talent. Units matter. Experience matters. ‘Table stakes’ matter. For all you say, Clemson beat Alabama because of great QB play, limited mistakes and making the plays it had to (execution).

It’s obvious that the NFL values Lawrence higher than the other two guys. He was the first pick, not them. Personally, I agree with that. Evaluating QBs is hard and plenty of top picks underwhelm, but IMO Lawrence is special.

Jesus we’ve been mediocre to *** for the last five years. And we still are sixth on this list. That gets rid of the 2000-2004 teams as major producers.
