Did anyone ever find a team that runs the same style 3-4 and it working?

Couldn't find older posts about this topic.

Since Golden is coming back for 2015 ... figured I'd just accept it, and try to figure out how our defense is supposed to work.

From what I can tell ... the idea is lock up with the o-line and free up the LBs to make plays. I guess you need like Ray Lewis and Suggs for it to work though.

Bama runs a 3-4. But they're aggressive and definitely do not run the same scheme.....like....at all.

right, ya I see that Michigan State runs the 3-4 ... Bama ... Notre Dame? ... 49ers ... Patriots ... but I never see the same lack of d-line penetration that I see in our defense.

why wouldn't a Defense want to be disruptive in the backfield?

Of of the advantages of 3-4 is disguising blitzes or where the 4th pass rushers coming from. We just sit back in the same spot or make it blatantly obvious. We run the Fear 3-4

3-4/4-3/5-2...Any scheme can be effective based on the situation and how it's applied. The defense must dictate, not be dictated to.

The reason Al's defense doesn't work is the mentality behind it. Instead of making things, they wait for things to happen.

ya ... this is what I've come to accept as well. it can't be very fun to be a player in a defense where you're getting hammered like we do

MSU runs a 4-3

In terms of playing the exact way we do, Washington's defense lines up similarly.

They do have three All-Americans though in Shaq Thompson, Danny Shelton, and Hau'oli Kikaha.

USC, LSU, and Stanford run 3-4's also and have had success. We need some NT's not the DT's the staff has recruited since their arrival.

I think the scheme can work, the situational playcalling is horrible though. We get dunked and dunked when we consistently drop 8 and rush 3 (basically 3 DTs with Chick, Pierre and Hert) on early downs, leaving us in predictable 3rd down situations.

Forget all the X's and O's. It's irrelevant. We could line up in a 46 Bear front and get shredded. The bottom line is this defense sucks because the underlying philosophy behind it is an extremely risk averse one. The mentality of the coaches implementing and calling the defense is to play not to lose. They are coached NOT to make anything happen and then hope the offense makes a mistake.

If you really take a close look you will notice this same loser philosophy on offense just to a somewhat lesser degree. For example consider the infatuation with the bubble screen. It is a relatively low risk play that gets the ball into a playmakers hands but puts tbe onus on the player to make a great play. Our coaches rarely seem comfortable dictating terms by design. They are happy to find the safest way to get the ball in the playmakers hands and hope he "breaks it". Again it's playing as safe as possible and NOT trying to make things happen on offense but hoping the defense makes a mistake.

I can honestly say that in all my years watching the Hurricanes that Al Golden's brand of football is the most dull, bland and utterly uninspired garbage that I have ever seen. I have no idea why anyone would want to play this type of boring and pathetic football for a lame duck, loser like Folden. F**k my life F**k Golden F**k this staff F**k Donna and F**k the POS BOT!

Said the same thing earlier.

You can't separate who someone is from what they do. There is no substance to this team because there is no substance to Al.

Right on. I cringe every time I see UM run that bubble screen. It's become so predictable that it is no longer low risk. If we are stuck with Golden, then I hope he at least brings in a DC with some smarts. Golden should just manage and recruit, and let better football brains call the offense, defense, and special teams.

A majority of this fan base has been trying to figure that out with this staff since the Maryland game. Not sure.

I forgot the Maryland game was under Al. I remember watching screen after screen after screen. I should have been on high alert then. The team has not gotten better since that game. Golden is destroying Miami football. Joe Pa would be proud of him.

Alabama runs more four man fronts now , the spread offenses have changed the game. Patriots also run far more four man fronts.

This is Miami where we always harrass the QB before the loser showed up. We get no penetration at all and can't get close to any QB with a decent OL even in blitzes. Same dull stunts and one move or get stoned. And usually is stoned. Just tired of watching it

Stanford, Bama, Wisonsin all run 3-4s

Difference is in philosophies, they attack, ours is more bend but dont break.
