They (the Athletic Department, the coaching staff, apologists in the fanbase) will seek to place the blame on factors they will say is outside their control: the culture around the program, the players executing, finances, etc..
Don't let them spin it. Let's look at what we do know: this is a historically bad schedule, which, instead of hastening a return to success, or put us in a situation in which the team can build on positivity, the team has historically underperformed.
The Athletic director paid another school FOUR MILLION DOLLARS to hire this guy. That's essentially the buyout for a established HC, a proven commodity. Instead, we got Diaz. There should be no way that his *** shouldn't be on the line for all this.
Meanwhile, Diaz did nothing but rile up the troops with talks of instantly competing for titles, raiding the portal, and, of course, 'The New Miami.' He kept his whole defensive staff (handpicked the special teams coach, I might add), and completely blew his biggest hire, the OC. Normally, it is understandable to give a head coach a 2-3 year grace period...but...the reason that THEY gave upon his being hired, was that it would provide continuity...that we'd win immediately.
So, obviously, this is anything but a normal situation, and, if a HC was ever to be fired after a single year, you could make a **** good case that Diaz should be that guy.
The program is in shambles, and further away from competing at a high level that it has ever been. Don't let them change the narrative. They deserve the criticism. They deserve your derision. They deserve to be fired.
