I think he's gone. They want to wait till Monday
to tell the players in person.

Appreciate the info but I'll believe it when I see it. If they had any intention of firing him this year you would think they would have done it immediately after the Pitt game.

Haven't read the whole thread yet, and the rumor has probably already been debunked, but you're giving UM too much credit. Do you still think they're not a totally reactionary group of incompetent out of touch buffoons?

It's completely within the realm of possibility that these idiots had no idea how bad this situation was until the fans made it obvious over the last few weeks just how toxic it is. If you don't think fans pounding them constantly via email and every social media portal could make a huge difference with this group, then I don't know what else to say.

Add to that the fact that recruits are jumping ship by the minute, and Folden has gone into hiding from fear and you could have a percolating situation.

Exactly.

For anyone who has asked how this administration can justify firing him now versus doing so swiftly after the pitt game: there are too many examples to list from the last 8 years of ineptitude that would provide reasoning as to why they WOULD fire him now. The BOT/Shalala are so out of touch that I do not doubt for one second they still believed Golden could somehow find a way to right the ship, even after this season’s epic failure. Most of the BOT and Shalala probably even figured he would voluntarily make staff changes and ‘do the right thing’. Boy oh boy, good luck with that one.

The leadership at UM is poor. Blind. Has no semblance of direction or a vision of what this program should be. No plan for where we need to go. It has been Al this, Al that since day 1 of his tenure. They handed him the keys and have been on vacation since. This year may have woken up some of the BOT (as posters have mentioned on CIS) but even after the end of the season, I would bet my life that the majority of UM decision makers still felt Golden was the guy. Some have brought up that maybe we had to wait until 1/1/15 for the buyout number to drop…not a chance. As one poster with experience as a lawyer pointed out, the chances of this are slim and none. IMO, I wouldn’t even give our administration the credit to have put together a plan like that…nothing they have ever done should lead any of us to believe otherwise.

In other words…as odd, weird, and plain DUMB this entire sequence of events has been with Golden somehow surviving to this point…it actually makes PERFECT SENSE that he would be let go now as opposed to being jettisoned via the more traditional route. Leading up this point we have had rumors of players de-committing, UM leans committing elsewhere, rumors of widespread transfers (thanks Mama Duke)…all of these things have potentially led to a perfect storm. The look on Blake James’ face since the end of the season in the few times he has been in view has been the look of a guy who had severe indigestion, found out his ogre wife was cheating, and backed his car over the family dog in the same day. How about Golden? The photos that I saw of him with recruits looked like a guy with the weight of the world on his shoulders who looked SICK that he even had to show face. To say he looked depressed or defeated is the understatement of the century. This is the same guy who loved the camera microphone, no matter how bad the ‘cloud’ was. Now? He can’t wait to hide.

Is it likely he is fired Monday? I don’t know-nobody does. I will say this: I absolutely believe the OP’s source. The only momentum we have had recently has been a downpour of anger/unrest towards Golden. Unlike any we have seen since he came aboard. Perhaps the avalanche has FINALLY reached those with the authority to actually do something about it. Look at our current class, then look at F$U. It is incomprehensible. The fact that we have guys potentially looking to transfer, we very well might struggle to beat ANYONE next year. ANYONE. And not only next season…if we stick with Golden, the abortion that will be the 2015 class will set this program back BIG TIME. Imagine 2011 on steroids.

BRING BACK BUTCH. SAVE THE U.

Don't be trolling mane

So the decision to ax Golden has been made but just for fun the administration is going to keep it a "secret" till Moday? Hmmm, smells like made up BS.

Cristobal would make most since to me since he would come in and keep the assitants besides Al's temple buddies. Don't see it happening still though if he is leaving, be it by resigning or being fired, why does it have to wait until monday? If it is because they are not working until Monday than how has this whole thing be in the works if they have not been working.

SINCE IT GOT LOCKED

I EXPECT GEO305 TO BE BAND ON TUESDAY MORNING FOR MISLEADING EVERYONE

LMAO

I don't believe Donna Shalala knows how bad the situation is with the students, alumni and fans. Unless she sees that I doubt anything will happen other than some new coaches and coordinators.
